All those idiot comments and statements are something else. He just should have stated "Black women should wear their hair in its natural state" and done. Cleary either this man does not have media training, no sense or both.

My motto " live your life" who is this fool anyway. COme on, he is a rapper. The same one who has women shaking their behinds in a video doing the same thing we have been seeing in every other rapper's videos for the last ten years. Every girl I see in his video is relaxed. So what is he saying? One minute ur helping to degrade women and the next ur a philosopher about what a real "black woman" is oh please. Like India Aire says " I am not my hair".........Next

Hey I'm new by the way guys ...HI

Bottom line is, he is not the one paying for it or combing it so it's a matter of personal choice... I don't relax my hair, but I don't assume that every relaxed-haired woman has issues with her origins unless she clearly voices it.

I saw this somewhere here...but all he needs to do is back up his claims and add natural girls to his videos. Then we can see his point of view. But, I guess he is saying the relaxed heads on his video don't love themselves, which is why they are on there in the first place...i get it now:rolleyes:.

I'm natural and I say he needs to shut up and think before he speaks. To each their own, but I don't think anyone should have to justify why they relax to HIM. He doesn't even have natural women in his videos unless their hair is of a certain texture.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but isn't that what he was alluding to? How many people actually read the whole blurb and not just that one sentence?

It's not like he came out of the blue for no reason and said black women shouldn't perm their hair. He asked a question, women responded with they perm their hair so they will have more job options and not be discriminated against by potential employers because of their natural hair, and then he responded accordingly. I'm not sure why he used a black on black crime analogy but he followed it up with Black-on-black crime is not just a black person committing a violent act against another black person. I took it to mean small and closed minded people are holding us back if we truly believe we have to perm our hair to get a job. People who don't know anything about our hair, or do not like it because they don't understand it, would be considered ignorant right?

He's not a dumb man by any means. He's college educated, a member of a BGLO, and used to be a teacher. Maybe he just flubbed on that quote? He shouldn't have said anything if he wasn't going to get his words straight, IMO because that just made him look dumb.

And to the argument about the natural women in the videos, it is what it is. How many video girls have you seen that are natural to begin with? Most of them have weaves to their butt anyway. How do you pick natural women when they're not even in the pool? Y'all know they use the same chicks back to back video after video. Usually natural hair comes with enlightenment :look: and I would hope that the enlightened ladies aren't interested in a$$ shaking in music videos when they could be doing something more constructive.

Emm, there are natural women in the entertainment industry who are just looking for any opportunity to be on TV. The girl from "Rock of love" was natural but she wore a wig most of the time. If it was that important to him; He could easily find natural haired women to be on his videos. Or he could even have them wear and Afro wig or weave. There is no excuse for what he said.

Wow I honestly didn't think this was going to get so many responses so fast. I just think he should think before he speaks and he should not assume every black women who have straight or permed hair are all doing it for the same reason, which in his case is because they don't love themselves and are not happy with who they are. Maybe the black women he has come across or knows perms/straightens their hair for the reasons he has stated but that doesn't mean we all do.

Being college educated doesn't mean he isn't ignorant

He's made other comments beside this that are horrible IMO. At the end of the day he's another black man who could care less about black women
Back to the beats, you did “Tip Drill”for Nelly. How do you feel about the negative response it got from the Spelman students?

David Banner: They lame. I think it’s a crock of bull*hit.

Please elaborate!

David Banner: Yeah because when you look at it, you have so many other people doing the same type of music. They only attack Nelly because he’s at the level that he is. My thing is, it’s entertainment. An actor can get up and act and do whatever he wants to do. Arnold Schwarzenegger perfect example. He can kill kids, he can blow up half of the United States and become governor of California. But we speak about the things we actually see everyday in our lives and we’re crucified for it. The thing is, nobody beat anybody to be in that video. The women enjoyed themselves, the same way the men enjoyed themselves and they got paid. And if you really want to talk about ethics as far as women are concerned, you can look at football games. Half naked women on the sidelines, don’t have nothing to do with the boys on the field playing football. You see it everyday; it’s a bigger problem. But young black males are the easiest scapegoat for America to crucify. If Spelman is truly concerned about women, they have a bigger target to attack. But that’s not what people really want to do. They want to attack safe targets, they want to attack their own people and that’s sickening to me

U have a valid point because he is educated but at the same time it's not a totally fair comment to be coming from an educated man. Also, I've seen natural girls in videos so we all aren't enlightened, lol, my point is more that he's not a Mos Def type of rapper nor is he a Common type of rapper where I guess I could see a comment like that coming, hes a shake ur a$$ let me see u twerk it kind of rapper so the comment is a little off; Like they glorify certain things then they turn around and down it when its not on wax, u know what i mean?

Please David Banner, put a woman who is not light skinned with weave or a woman who doesn't look very "exotic" in one of your videos and then I SWEAR I'll transition! PINKY PROMISE....

Until he learns to show respect for black women, I don't want to hear anything he has to say about what black women should do.
