Hits & Misses September 2014

Hit: baggying at night, Hh scm diluted with water as a root spritz and liquid gold green magic growth cream

Hit: BASK Vanilla Whiskey DC
This is a nice DC. It did make my hair really soft for it to have protein. I could see this as a light every other week protein DC because I did not have to follow up with a moisturizing DC. I think I will get a couple during Black Friday.

An oldie but goodie hit: Nu Gro Spray with Moisturizer - their new formula on their website smells amazing it doesn't smell like garlic at all! Plus it's an amazing liquid moisturizer perfect for braids or underneath a weave. This will be my go to for now on whenever I'm in protective styles to keep my hair moisturized. Just be a bit careful it can be a little sticky if you use too much. Once I use it I don't have to use it everyday which is perfect and my hair will still feel moisturized.

New Hit

Herbal Essences The Sleeker the Butter conditioner for cowashing, good slip, soft moisturized hair after rinsing, good detangler!

Old Hits

Xtreme Wetline Gel , dries quicker than anything out there, soft, juicy hair
Design by cosmetics Pumpkin Cowash, soft clean hair

Miss

Anthony Dickey method, My hair holds on to so much water that I have to shake after applying my styler. If I don't shake my hair, then yes, its elongated but it takes 48 hours to dry. Shaking, gets the excess water out but encourages shrinkage.

Phenomenal Hits: Shea Terra Organics & Bask Beauty’s Shipping

- I placed an order with Shea Terra on Monday and received a shipping notice with tracking information an hour later on the same day. The package arrived at my door on Thursday. My order was safely secured with lots of peanuts and included 3 samples. I'm highly impressed!

- I placed an order with Bask on 8/31 that was shipped out on 9/2 and received on 9/4. This shipment was also well packaged with peanuts and bubble wrap, and included a full sized scrub as a free gift. I am very, very pleased!

A note to the other vendors: Customers, particularly those that place large orders, greatly appreciate samples and free gifts.

HITS
Shea Moisture Manuka Honey Shampoo - I have found my HG cleanser. This stuff right here man, it leaves my hair clean yet moisturized. My cleansers have either left my hair feeling more stripped than I'd like or left my hair feeling moisturized but dirty still. This will be what I use weekly and every month or month in a half I'll cleanse with something that will give me a deeper clean.

Ferrum Professional Styler - Fabric + Ceramic Flat Iron - I have a Sedu and a Maxiglide, this blows both out of the water. I'm 3 years natural and after straightening my hair for the 3rd time in my natural hair journey, I've realized that I have to break down and go and get a professional hair cut. I cut my own relaxed ends off and never had my hair professionally cut, and the longer my hair gets the weirder it falls. I can't even wear my straightened hair down . The flat iron itself did any amazing job though.

Doing the Chase Method with a boar bristle brush instead of fine tooth comb - Much sleeker results and for me I lose less hair

PJaye I'm going to 2nd your experience with STO on the shipping and the samples. I order face products from them regularly and they wrap the bottles/jars in bubble wrap [tightly] and fill the box with peanuts. Their products are not getting banged around in shipping at all. And I LOVE that they provide samples. No matter how much you order from them, you will get samples. Plus they've had a 30% off promo code every month (since June at least).

Miss: Garnier Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist. It claims to give you 48 hours of straightness... My hair was "fluffy" before I even made it to work

When I was relaxed I loved Nairobi foam wrap lotion.

I kept hearing great reviews, but when you live in a small town you can't find any good hair stuff. I'm sooooo glad I finally ordered this AND that I got the 32 oz refill bottle! Too bad I can't sit under the dryer long enough to get a good rollerset lol

Super Hit

Applying APB Ayurvedic cream to my unruly 7 wk post new growth instead if Darcy's transitioning cream.

My new growth is incredibly soft and tamed.

Hit: Hair One Sweet Almond Oil Cleanser...it works really well as a cleanser, conditioner, and so far, a leave-in on wet hair :yep:

Semi-hit: Darcy Botanicals Leave In Cream. It worked beautifully on my straightened hair (before washing), but on air-dried hair it is just way too light to make an impact. If I don't end up throwing it away (I hate when products just sit in my stash), I will use it again on my next touch up. But I don't plan on repurchasing.

Misses: GVP Detangler (was just "eh") Fruit of the Earth 100% Aloe Vera Gel (made my edges crunchy)

Hit:
LACE's: More Moisture Cream
Silky Aloe Curl Pudding

Ongoing hits: Hairveda's Almond Glaze and Sitrinillah Deep Hair Masque(Please don't change anything)

Revisted hits:
SM CES - hadn't used it in a while. Always liked the moisture and hold with this product.

Komaza Care protein strengthener - also hadn't used in a while. Hair is definitely more coily after use which means, for me, my protein level is in check.

A MISS for me that may be a HIT for someone else: Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Detangler

This stuff made my hair TOO soft to the point that my twistouts would not hold, no matter how much gel I used. So this product would be good for someone with seriously dry hair.

Hit:
I bought Elasta OP Olive Oil Mango Butter Curle Creme Pudding and it's a keeper. I will not be purchasing any more pudding in the future except this one. It gave my twa such definition, left my 4c hair soft and wow! it got the wow factor. Loving it.

Guaranteed continuous Hit
- JessiCurl DT

This is by far one if the best DC's I have ever tried. Always leaves my hair moisturized and soft without any heavy greasy feelings.

Going to sleep with wet hair, my wng looks a little sad, lol.

I love this gel. I may have to use it less often in the winter because for me it takes a really long time to dry. Last winter I exclusively wore wash n gos (in freaking NYC) and remember that little issue. It's a lovely gel though an so affordable.

I'm in NJ, I never use it in cooler temps but it dropped today and I had used it yesterday. I use KCCC in the winter times SweetlyCurly

I just got the Hello Curly gel so hopefully there's a good sale so I can keep using it during the winter. If not it'll be my cantu curling custard or homemade flaxseed gel. They both dry quickly.

Hits
- oil rinsing. My hair turns out better and stays moisturized longer even though I do need to pull back a little in the amount of oil. Haven't found the right balance yet.

- mud washes (terressentials). I didn't do the detox but I'm getting great results. So good that I haven't been conditioning. Just prepoo with EVCO, mud wash, oil rinse, ACV rinse, done. This has really helped in cutting the time on wash day.

- letting hair semi dry in Bantu knots instead if braids or twists before blow drying. This helps to smooth the ends of my hair better so that they are pretty straight and just about dry by the time I go to blow dry. With braids and twists the ends were too curly and prone to tangling or drying rough.
