What is your hair care budget?

Poohbear

Fearfully Wonderfully Made
Ive never spent much money on hair products before joining this forum. This month when I joined, I probably spent about $30 dollars so far on products but now I'm leaving it at that until I use up what I got and not become a product junkie
. Ive only been to the salon about 5-7 times out of my whole life. But, Im really good at budgeting and saving my money

Monthy:

Bi-Monthly

Motions Foam Wrap Lotion $4.00
Hawaiian Sily Relaxer Jar $4.50

Silvergirl, you are lucky to have a mom who is a stylist.
The closest I can get to whole sale prices for hair products is my Sally's discount card, lol.

Donda, I'm aiming for your total. Currently, I spend $300/year including touchups, trims, and pretty hair accessories.

I don't have a budget but I usually only buy products when there is a sale...I have spent probably $150-@230 so far mostly to get the entire Affirm system so that I can relax at home:
Relaxer $40
Conditioners $52
Shampoo %6
Then my braids were $130 and I relaxed in Jan for $60 plus Surge($24) and the Farouk system($20)....I have stop buying products though until I use every bit of conditioner and shampoo I have now..I may have to get a better flat iron..

i guess i should tip toe back in and give some honest reports.
i don't feel so bad anymore after browsing through most of these replies.

BUDGET THUS FAR FOR 2004
hair butters $20
leave in conditioners $10
hair accessories $50
deep conditioners (this is for the tigi bed head chocolate head) $16
stock up on conditioner $ 10

i've spent $106 in 2004 on hair thus far.
wow, i'm doing A LOT better than i expected.
being extra frugral and requesting samples has helped me ease up on the spending A LOT.
when i get to florida it's gonna be ON though. i gotta load up on some more butters to last me through the year.

I need a budget. I refuse to count the actual cost. Good lord. I spend at least $100 per month and if I buy vitamins it's even more. That's at least $1200 per year.

When I stopped going to the salon, I committed to using that money to buy salon quality products for use at home, which includes equipment. So I'm tying to meet my spending goal I guess.

Think Slim
Right now I'm only get a touch up and colourshine at the same time. That runs me $50 + $10 tip.

I do my own roller sets now, only because I'm too far from Manhattan to get to my stylist, but you better believe that I put 40k miles on my truck last year, because I was trying 3.5 hours every other week for a roller set.

Budget? Not me! I am a junkie and I admit it!

I buy in spurts. I go for a month or two and buy nothing then I go into the BSS and stock up.

I am also buying for my daughter too. I must admit that once I started cutting out products that mineral oil or petroleum I have been able to be more selective when I buy.

Right. My purchases are always based on board raves, and I'm buying product pairs for use together lately:
-Breakthru shampoo with Elucence MB conditioner
-Nutrine scented garlic shampoo with Nutrine unscented garlic conditioner
-Nacidit olive oil conditioner with Salerm 21 leave in.
Here's hoping that last pair begins and ends my Dominican product trip.

Evil plan # next: If I take my own shampoo and conditioner pairs to the Dominican salon every 2nd or 3rd week all summer, I'll use them up faster.

Right now my budget is at zero. I am refraining from buying anymore products until I use up my current stock. It's hard though...especially in light of all the wonderful reviews Salerm has received.

Kerastase products about $100 for shampoo, conditioner and leave-in. $40-$60 salon visits every couple of months. That's about it.

Don't have a specific number but I know it is very minimal. I'm not much of a PJ and mainly use products that can be brought in a drugstore.

My total hair care budget for 2004 was only $411.34. This total even includes 3 relaxer touch ups and tips to my stylist). This may sound like a lot to some, but I think it's pretty good. :) Of course, I'm keeping a hair care budget for 2005. I think my hair care budget for 2005 will be a lot less since I know what not to buy for my hair.

Does anyone else have their 2004 grand total? Don't be shy. Post it here.

This is a great question, but I don't really have one. I'd hate to think of what I spend in a month! Although, I think now that my regimen has been simplified, I may not spend as much as I have in the past.

I took part in a few hair care product challenges (purchasing no hair care products) in 2004. Plus, I know what my hair likes. :) No secrets really. :)

I am so ashamed of myself :(

Weekly wash-n-sets ($25x4)x12=1,200 (1,050 considering relaxer week)
Relaxers (120X6)= 720 (Will be cutting down to 3 times per year for 2005)
Products.....I can't even imagine :( :ohwell:

I will do better in 2005. I am going to only stick to one particular product for 2005 :perplexed.

I don't got to hairdressers but I do buy alot of hair. Thankfully my weaves are only $60 and my braids are only $90. But I probably spent between 500 and 800 total. It will be alot less this year because I am not buying hair products or hair. I also plan on doing my own weaves unless it is a look I am not familar with.

I don't want to think about about the amount I have spent on haircare supplies since I started viewing this board in September. But in getting my hair together it's priceless and worth every penny to me!!!

My mother-in-law gave me a $500 gift certificate for Trade Secret so I shouldn't go too much over that. The only other thing I really buy outside of TS is NTM.

Relaxers (done by my mom): $6.95 for two pack (touch-up every 3 months, means I relax only 4x a year) $13.90 a year

Shampoo (large bottle): $4.00 once every six months, $8.00 a year

Conditioner: Suave Milk & Honey: $0.79 x 2 a month = $18.96 a year

Leave-in:
Salerm 21: $8.49 every year and a half

Total: $49.45

What a nice mother-in-law, bocagirl!

As for me, I have no clue how much I spend a year on haircare, but I will start to keep track.

I bought a lot of products right after joining the board in November, but I've calmed down now. I went from having to borrow a cup of shampoo from my mother, to having enough products to last at least all year.

Of course there are some things I want to try, but I'm going to hold back from buying anything else. At least for another month.

Being on the braid challenge helps with the PJism because I've already got my products in place to maintain that. I'm also getting my hair relaxed less this year (probably four times). The downside to the braid challenge is that braiding is expensive.
