What's the truth about mineral oil?

Does it really clog pores and stunt growth? My hair seems to like products with mineral oil. When i use braid sprays without it my scalp becomes dry and itchy.

I don't know about stunting growth. But when I was a baby, my mom put some baby oil in my hair (even though her grandmother told her NOT to) because she wanted my hair to shine and my hair reverted before her very eyes!

So after she told me that story, I decided to stay away from mineral oil.
