I'm going to attempt to do the shingling process on my friend's hair and I need some tips.
1. Can I use any buttercreams or twisting gels for shingling?
2. How long does she sit under the dryer after putting on the product?
3. How does she keep her hair fresh so she won't have bed head?

I've never done this to my head because the front of my hair won't shingle so I hope this works well on my friend. She has 3c and 4a hair.

1. I use Eco Styler gel or Fantasia styling gel...I've never used anything else. I apply it to soaking wet hair in small sections and I comb through once with my Denman.
2. I Air dry, but I would say to sit under the dryer until it is no longer dripping. Some people use a blow dryer with a diffuser.
3. I sleep in a bonnet and ALWAYS have bed head (not sure if there is any way around that one). When I wake up I use a spray bottle filled with water to saturate my hair again and shake, shake, shake... the curls "pop" right back.

I pretty much do what she does but with gel:

ETA...I'm sorry I forgot to ask what length is your friends hair? I'm thinking she may need to use a different technique if her hair is long, I have a twa (on the longer end).
