She has gorgeous hair! I wish her the best. I hope that black women with all textures, curl size etc., have the opportunity to represent hair care companies.
That's subjective because it depends on the individual and their hair. Here's an example though: for most of us, Luster's Pink Oil Moisturizer was the devil. But growing up there were plenty 3b,3c Black women and kids who used it and loved it. It wasn't moisturizing or detangling enough to work for the majority of Black women, but for others who were fortunate to have less kinkier hair textures, it was just fine for them. Thus, they weren't holding products to the same "rigorous" standards that someone like me did.
Anyhoo, yall are really twisting my words. I don't know what you all mean by no one is celebrating her success because I clearly congratulated her and I'm happy for her. I just also mentioned that these hair care companies need to have more diversity. It's the same thing with the movie industry casting Paula Patton for every Black female role. Her look is not representative of the average Black woman. Yall act like there's something wrong with wanting a wide range of representations of Black people. We are our own worst enemy. Instead of advocating for more, we always are just so happy to settle when we finally get one foot in the door. Such backwards thinking.
Exactly. This is why we should start giving support to our ladies with kinkier textures instead of creating divisions let's just support the other textures more as well.People complain about ladies with 'more manageable' textures endorsements but the kinkier haired people barely be having views and followings. The companies go with the popularity
I follow two kinky haired ladies on YT; kimmaytube and greenbeauty. Both of their channels are educational. Also, they have beautiful hair!
They're not waiting on companies to give them opportunities. Both ladies have created and market their own hair care lines.

I asked you a few questions and I thought we were having an mature, open discussion being that this is a public forum.
I do however wonder why you felt the need to attempt to insult my intelligence
Maybe you are offended or becoming defensive? Maybe you are feeling attacked, but it was never my intention to insult, attack or offend you.
However, I do have another question for you:
Underlined above you stated "...but for others who were fortunate to have less kinkier hair textures..."
Is it your belief that people with less kinkier textures are more fortunate?
Is so, then common reasoning would deduce that you believe:
People with kinkier textures are less fortune. Is that also your belief?
Once again, this mature non-argumentative conversation. If you are uncomfortable with that then you are more than welcomed to ignore my questions and posts.
ellebelle88 I get some of your points about looser textures, but it's not like Mahogany Curls sprang up out of nowhere. She has been documenting her hair journey from big chop to waist length...she was one of the first healthy hair vloggers I ever followed online. I remember when she briefly stopped making videos and I was really hoping that she would come back online.
Her tips about the Curly Girl Method, roller setting for hair straightening, and the fact that she is one of the few naturals of any texture that does not wear wigs/weaves have all really helped me on my journey, even when my hair was relaxed.
Now, I don't know her personally, but I am very happy for her. You are entitled to feel the way that you feel, but I just think Jess is not a good example for what you are trying to illustrate. She is relatable in a lot of ways - nice personality, military family, young wife and mother...plus she has helped a lot of other YTers and seems to have a good relationship with vlogger Jouelzy, who is 4c. They did a collab a year ago and if you watch Jouelzy's videos, she mentions Jess from time to time.
Again, I know what you are saying, but Jess is not a good example of texture discrimination, IMO. She should have gotten a deal like this a long time ago . There are some other YTers that seem to have sprang out of nowhere and gained popularity overnight, perhaps based on texture alone, but she is not one of them...
Mahogany Curls is very deserving. But I don't blame people for being a little gun shy about typing discrimination. I do think that there have been very deliberate strides made to portray diversity of natural textures.
I've seen lots of packaging and commercials featuring women with kinky textures.
When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Not to say the nails don't exist, but I think it's much better than years past.
Isn't Chary Jay the model for that hair humidifying company's packaging?
I like the girl too. But I would have definitely expected someone like her to get such an endorsement. She's no different from CurlyNikki in my opinion. They both are really helpful and really good at what they do...and the most important thing about them: they have 3b/c hair which made companies take notice. They deserve the opportunities they get to be on a larger platform, but so do so many other 4abc youtube hair bloggers who go unnoticed, regardless of how many followers they have.
I just don't get how you all are missing the very simple point I'm making: we need diversity. We shouldn't be choosing from one person whose a carbon copy of another. It's fine to have MahoganyCurls as an ambassador but can we get someone like CharyJay as well?

Shea moisture is a business. Why would you pick a brand ambassador for some random YouTube video, with 50 followers, when there's someone who's basically been a SM product pusher (for free) for a good part of their hair journey? Oh and she had a huge boat load of followers? And it's clear whatever the heck she's doing is working and working very well. That's what's important. Is there a 4abc vlogger with the same?
I agree with this. SM is a business not a civil rights movement, not a self esteem project or a non profit. They are in the business of making money. MC has a lot to offer companies. She is very marketable.
Why did her CONGRATULATIONS thread turn into a light skin/dark skin, good hair/bad hair thread????
The deep rooted issues that have been posted in this thread will not be solved by MC becoming beauty ambassador for SM
I like her and her husband a lot. Congrats for her.
I don't know my hair type. My edges are kinky crispy and make me sad because no edge control can tame the wildebeest so I don't know if I could handle a whole head. It could be less kink under there but me and short hair are mortal enemies so I doubt I'll ever find out.
I've skimmed this thread and really, those who know their hair is 4a-c stop whining and start vlogging and get your name and hair out there as a representative. There's plenty of 4a-cs on LHCF so insta lots of followers so where's the whine? Like Nike...just do it.
I mean really. You have your pics on here so you aren't shy about your face being on the web so start making videos.
So by wanting more and better representation for 4's hair type we are whining... Please there are plenty of 4's vlogging and youtubing that are not getting deals, because of companies marketing scheme to use 3's hair as the universal hair type for their marketing company targeting the natural hair community.
But Let me stop whining because I see past the nonsense.
The biggest natural hair vlogger of them all Nap85 has turned down numerous opportunities, because she was try to be authentic and stick to juice and berries for her hair. She's a 4A.
