I'm joining! This is great. I just wanna see if I can do it. Which I will unless I get distracted by my fabulous hair once it hits brastrap!
Wouldn't it be something if all we all made it! The world at large would be shocked as we effectively :hammer: that afro-hair-cant-gro myth.

My info:
1. Hair type: 4a/b
2. Natural or relaxed: natural
3. Current length: 7.5 inches, just hitting shoulders. :D
4. Type of braids: Currently in micros. I plan to alternate between small braids, and weaves (this might change to just braids since I have yet to try a weave)
5. Products: Currently going through a regime adjustment so I'm very open to suggestions that will help my dry head - but for now: Suave conditioners, Olive Creme hairdress, and any other moisturizing products i find laying around.
6. Supplements: Nature made Super B- Complex, Freeda biotin (7.5mg), PP Amino 1500 (2-3 servings daily), 2000mg PP l-cysteine, 4,000 mg Vitamin C, Vit. E (400 i.u), and Fish oil.
7. Date started: August 3rd, 2005.

NOTE: If I don't get at least an inch this month there will be some serious overhauling  :look:

alexei, I was just thinking the same thing too!!!! What if everyone on this challenge reached their goal..That would be amazing. So many beautiful african american women with long flowing hair!!!! Everyone one would be asking, what is going on with all these african american women with long real hair, what is going on, what's the secret!!

You seem to be doing well - your hair looks very healthy. I am sure you will make bra-strap by 2007.

Hi there!
Hi ladies.......can I join the challenge too? I'm not really aiming for waistlength, but I would like to see how long I can get my hair to grow.

I have a brand new 4/b twa. I just washed my hair today and applied a plum/brown rinse from Adore. It didn't really take (I knew that lol), but now my scalp is this lovely shade of pink :lachen:. I will add pictures tonight or tomorrow.

:yep: @ keldevine.
I will be adding MSM (for growth and texture) and Primrose oil ( which i will use if gives me any increase in my brasize - regardless of hair results :blondboob hehe)

After doing my math....................

After 6 months, I have 2 1/2 inches of hair. (I've slacked off my rountine :( )
So by 02/05/06 I should have more that 5 inches of hair.

To be at waist length, I would need 17 more inches.

So that means I'll need to grow 8.5 inches a year.
that's 3.5 more inches than at my current rate.

If I stay deligent (take my supplements, kill the caffine, drink my water, eat healthier, scalp massages, excersise, and care for my hair) I should be able to get those extra 3.5 inches.

Sounds like a plan.................
08/22/2005------->08/22/2007 I'ma make it!!!

I'm in! I'm plaiting (kinda cornrowing) my hair in 4, and using wigs a couple times a week as my protective style. I have no idea how to measure my hair, so don't know true length, but it's approx above shoulder plaited.

1. Hair type - 4B
2. Natural or Relaxed - Natural
3. Current length - approx above shoulder plaited
4. Style - large plaits w/ wigs
5. Products - NTM poo & con, Deep Con: Queen Helene Cholestral, leave in con: "Placenta de Ovejo" Sheep placenta, moisture: Shea/coconut oil, 3x wk mtg/surge mix. Daily Spritz mix: Rosewater, Coconut oil, Almond rain oil Mist Dark Lovely, Aveda daily leave in elixer, Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave in, water.
6. Supplements MSM, B-100 (Ultra B-Complex), SUPER BIOTIN, L-CYSTEINE, Hair MEGA VITAMINS
7. Date started - 8/30/05
8. Issues: Shedding, extreme tangling, slow growth

Quick question all: My hair hates being manipulated and tangles extremely easily. I have been using Crown & Glory method to wash hair weekly and it has cut down on sheds and tangles. I am wondering if I can achieve more growth by a) plaiting it in 4 weekly after treating OR b) getting approx 15 thin (no added hair) cornrows and wearing, washing, treating my hair for about 4 weeks with the cornrows in -- Which method do you guys think is best? thks

4. Type of braids (human/synthetic/cornrows/box braids/etc.): I have human box braids (close to micros) in my hair right now. I've had them in since june 28 for my wedding.
QUOTE]

Rai, how are you keeping your natural hair from curling around the human hair braids? When I got my hair braided earlier this year after I chopped, I got human hair braids and had to take them out long before I usually would because the hair would ravel around and bush out from the braids. Unlike when I was permed and it would blend in. Any advice?

Oh and I'll join this challenge as well. I'm usually braided up for the winter anyway. Here's my stats:

1. Hair type: 4a/b
2. Natural or relaxed........natural!
3. Current length..since the big "trim" around 3-4 inches.
4. Type of braids (human/synthetic/cornrows/box braids/etc.) ...I'll probably get synthetic individuals and/or cornrows
5. Products ...stay sof fro while in braids; CON clarifying poo for my wash and Herbal Essences conditioner along with a coconut oil hot oil treatment before getting it braided back up which will be every 6 weeks (can't seem to go much longer)
6. Supplements...iron and multi
7. Date started..Effective Sept. 4th

I'm READY!

1. Hair type.... 4a-4B
2. Natural or relaxed........all natural

3. Current length….haven’t measured, but around 4-5 inches (not pressed or blown dried)

4. Type of braids....synthetic cornrows (braiding myself, using only 1-2 packs of extension hair to keep weight/stress of the braids light)

5. Products ...Diluted shampoo (various brands), Deep conditioner (various brands) w/ heat bonnet, Leave-In Combo of Infusium and Donnie’s Curl Lotion, and finally a combo of Come Back & Glover used as hair cream

6. Supplements...Multivitamin, Flaxseed Oil, and Mega Hair Vitamins

7. Date started….TODAY, September 1, 2005 is my official start date.

I intend to braid my hair every month to keep healthy tension on scalp and minimize matting. I also ordered MTG, but need to figure out how to use it with my braiding routine.

Cheers :)

Those looking for super green foods...Odwalla has a Superfood Micronutrient drink. I've been drinking it since last week on my lunch, but the 16 oz. bottle costs like $2.59 where I get it, so I'm going to look out for larger bottles since I like it. The taste is really sweet, but it is green and looks a bit slimey!

Superfood™ • Micronutrient Fruit Juice Drink
Great green garden. Smooth, sweet, bold and lush, this concoction is a tasty way to help fulfill your daily fruit quota. This sweet and fruity blend combines a multitude of foods – creating a delicious, empowering experience with a concoction of vital micronutrients- from vitamin A to vitamin C to many essential minerals.

Ingredients:
Apple Juice
Peach
Mango
Strawberry and Banana Puree
Spirulina
Soy Lecithin
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
Wheat Grass
Barley Grass
Wheat Sprouts
Jerusalem Artichoke
Lemon Bioflavonoid
Nova Scotia Dulse

The last time I was natural I went from TWA to bra-strap in 2 1/2 yrs. So I don't think I'd make it to waist length in less than that. But I'll jump on the bandwagon anyway. I'm a transitioning now and will be bc'ing in June next yr. I will not be taking any supp or wearing extensions. I will be doing this au natural. Here we go...

So far so good! I've been using MTG and the results are promising! I will be updating my FOTKI real soon. I've been braiding it up and when I'm out of braids I do twistouts and braidouts and stick with my staple moisturizers; sta-sof-fro, shea/avocado/mango butters, and coconut oils.

3. Current length: front nearing chin length, back nearing armpit
4. Type of braids (human/synthetic/cornrows/box braids/etc.): N/A
5. Products: Jason poos and cons, scalp spray (Hairever, eo's, soon to include some Surge that's been collecting dust under the sink), pre-poo stuff (avocado treatment, coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc.)
6. Supplements: soon to be a multi and some flax. possibly adding a little biotin.
7. Date started: I think I'll have my official start date be after I do my pic progress update next week. That'll give my vitamins I ordered a chance to arrive, and that's when I plan to add the Surge to the scalp mix.

Update:
3. Front past chin length, back nearing brastrap.
5. Still using Jason poos and cons, no more scalp spraying, and have since given away that Surge that was collecting dust.
6. Took a break from the multi and flax, but have started up again along with Skin Eternal Plus.

You and me both! So far I've followed my routine but I've switched multis. When stretched my hair in the front is past my chin and in the back it's in the middle of my shoulder blades.
