ATTENTION:: This may gross some people out, so you may want to leave now.

Okay, so I just pulled out the world's biggest dry patch of dead skin in the world off of my scalp. Anyway, I literally picked up one side of the patch with my nail and began to peel it to the other side. I had to take a rat tail comb and go under the skin to pull my hairs out to be able to continue to pull it without breaking it. I took pics, but I will only show them IF people seriously want to see them to help me to give suggestions. anyway, the piece of dead skin was almost 1 inch wide. I took a pic of it next to a ruler as well as while I was taking it off of my scalp.

I extremely dry hair and I don't have an oily scalp, so I don't think it's not Seborrheic dermatitis, because it doesn't ooze or anything like I've read about. It's not dandruff either. It doesn't stink and it's not yellow, reddish, or greenish either- it's tan. It doesn't come off wet either, it come off dry. Like when your skin is peeling and you pull the skin off. The skin under the dead skin is normal scalp. Also, this only happens at the front of my head about an inch from my hairline. I have no idea why this happens. Does anyone have a remedy?

Last time I had a flare up- a few years ago, I was prescribed a special shampoo that worked- but it's so expensive for a small bottle. I need a remedy for this mess. :( I'd be ever so greatful if someone could help me.

Bless your heart. I would try the mix I use on my sons scalp for psoriasis. I mix amla oil with MSM with a couple of drops of thyme and rosemary essential oils. Googel each one of those up and you'll see how they help dry scalp in a number of ways. I use this mix on my scalp as well but as a type of growth aid because some of these things double as having growth properties as well as healing properties. I would also use coconut oil on the scalp, it's just good for the skin and is good for moisture. Good luck girlie!

Really? I want to see that.
 You just trying to be newsy. I'll probably come back and post pics later... I just really do not want to gross people out. I also don't want to be people's freak show to come in and look at without offering some kind of advice on a remedy, ya know?

Thank you for your suggestions so far ladies. I have coconut oil at home already- I do love that stuff. I have to check out the rest of the products suggested. I was just in the BSS and saw Dr. Bonner's poos too... I have to go back to check it out closer.

I have a hair appt tomorrow for my touch-up... I think I will cancel until I get my scalp together.

A picture would be for educational purposes. I haven't seen anything like that before. You already put a disclaimer on the thread before we opened it. BTW. I would cancel that appt for a touch up after you just scraped a piece of your scalp off that sounds painful not to mention the relaxer could eat that spot you just removed up! EEK

I know I talk about this product alot.....but I would try the glovers medicated treatment. I started using this product and HAVE NOT seen a flake since. I also lightly grease my scalp w/sulfur 8 light (optional)
You could also heat up the glovers and then put it on your scalp. Sit with it for at least an hour initially then shampoo out. I like to use sulfur 8 shampoo to get the glovers out then a moisturizing shampoo of your choice to follow. I do this about every four weeks (I would to every week to two weeks initially. Then when you have it under control, every four weeks. Keep using it, it works!!

P.S. (Even though you said that you do not have an oily scalp) I was always told that big flakes actually means that you do have an oily scalp and little sand-like flakes mean dry scalp.

I washed my hair using CON a few days ago and I used a new product!! I used a shea butter moisturizing cream by... I'm not sure of the brand name (the brand that makes the Mango Butter everyone loves... I think the brand starts with a "C"), but yes, I sure did use something new. That's probably what did it. Thanks you for jogging my memory.

OKay, I'll post pics. I took them on my phone, so I have to email them to myself and then post them here, so I need a few minutes to get them up.

The skin coming off wasn't painful at all- you would think it would though the way it looks. I agree though, I am cancelling my appt.

I'm wondering if something like good old aloe vera would help. Like either getting the gel (food grade) and rubbing it on your scalp. Or getting the juice (food grade) and spraying it on the scalp.

Hairapy, what was the name of the shampoo they gave you? If you tell me, maybe we can find a OTC option that has the same properties as the active ingredient.

It was Loprox. It worked for me too, it was an immediate help. Thanks GymFreak336! I so hope you can find something close to it :)

Could it be eczema? Pm me. That wouldn't gross me out. You should probably pay a visit to your doctor.

Edit: someone mentioned psoriasis...I forget what each one looks like...maybe eczema oozes and that wouldn't be it.

But I sometimes get that in a certain part in my crown. It's from a scalp injury with a chemical. It takes time to heal but I get these peelies...I call them "scalpies" lol because they irritate the heck out of me. I'm going to use the amla recipe with the thme and rosemary oil plus coconut. Show me...girl, I've got that thing myself and I do want to see it.

He prescribed me shampoo for seborrheic dermatitis. I want to try to treat it at home though. I'm going to post all of the pics at once when I get home- I have to put them up on my fotki so they can show up here. I hate all the firey hoops you have to jump through just to show a pic around here.

Hairapy, You may want to refrain from picking those types of scabs, they tend to leaves bald spots, You should actually want to let it break away on its own, When My Son had it, it was really bad, and the Doctor told Me I shouldn't pick them.
Just food for thought!,
Good Luck to You!
