I think the way I have been sleeping with my hair has been thinning it out.

I coil it up (wet) and twist it into a bun, and secure with a goody spin pin on my crown. I think my poor scalp must be exhausted :( I am going to start doing braids instead.

I noticed my hair thickened up considerably when I stopped using shampoo and used conditioner instead to wash it with. I just think shampoo in general is just too stripping for all hair types regardless of race, and I think it contributes to a lot of the dryness of hair that members on here complain about. Also, using a "mild" relaxer instead of the "regular" strength that I normally used in the past contributed to my hair getting thicker. Regular strength relaxers for whatever reason process my hair too fast. Aphogee 2 step protein treatment also thickens up my hair, and I use that every 6 weeks.

It is the sulfate. Try sulfate free shampoos such as KeraCare, Cream of Nature, and HairOne.

Its not really complicated, but it is real messy. I tried it for awhile in the beginning of my HHJ, but it was extremely time consuming as well as like I said messy. However, you have to try it for yourself.

That's a possibility. You are probably stretching your hair strands as you pin it up. Do you get any breakage from your procedure? Also, you have to change the position in which you are bunning it.

I use castor oil for my daughters hair and thin edges. Her hair has grown in very thick. I have heard that JBCO works great too, but I have not purchased that product.

Krystle I am not familiar with the pink label. If it is more costly I would add the castor oil. PM me if you are interested in going to the concert with J Cole and Drake in Paris next week. If so will see contact my so to seeif I can get you a couple of back stage passes.

my hair is coming out. ugh, i've been going through this on and off for years. i have hypothyroidism. it's always really dry and brittle. i'm taking my medication. my doctor told me that 112 mcg is my perfect dosage. my hair is still not back to normal, and my skin is dry. ugh, this doesn't feel like the perfect dosage at all. :(

What are some symptoms for dermatitis besides hair loss?

The scalp is really dry and flaky. I kept thinking it was dandruff but I would see it right after washing and blow drying. I tried everything and it wouldn't go away. Some people also experience itching but I didn't. It seems to be better (no flaking) after a week and a half of using the mousse daily.

I have a birthmark at my nape, the hair is very sparse and loosely curled. It also extends to my perimeter (right above ears) too. I'm getting frustrated because i notice that my hair is not as dense and thick as it once was all over

Also, my scalp is always sore and has been this way for years. I have used Castor oil in the past and my hair/scalp doesn't care for it at all... its too thick and goopy and actually rips my hair out from the root when massaging in.

I'm willing to give it another try if i mix it with another oil to make it less syrupy.

Any suggestions?

I'm not understanding how that would happen. Are you gently massaging your scalp?

You can try mixing the CO with an essential oil such as rosemary or peppermint. These two I know stimulate the scalp which will aid in the growth of your hair. If this doesn't work for you, some people with Wild Growth Oil. You can find that a Sally's or your local BSS.

Maybe someone else can chime in on your sore scalp.

Yes, my hair is so fine in those areas that any excess rubbing/massaging irritates it. I used to apply JBCO to that area undiluted and gave up because the oil was too thick.

I just bought some tacky, extra big, colorful, plush scrunchies at target.

I figure since I like to sleep with my hair up anyway, it will be less damaging to use those then a tight twisted spin pin bun or regular hair elastics.

Old schooling my way to thicker hair 2011!!

I think your situation sounds medical.. Have you ever seen a dermatologist about your chronically soar scalp?

I've never had a sore scalp so I won't be much help there. I hope you do see a dermatologist first. "Ripping your hair with application of JBCO" sounds scary. However, I found it more advantageous to adding JBCO on damp hair since its water soluble. It smooths out nicely. I've also mixed it either Vatika or 100% pure argan oil.

thanks ladies.... let me clarify the "ripping out" part. I noticed that my strands were shedding more (white bulbs) when i used JBCO. If i combed, the stickiness of the JBCO weighed down my hair and made it break/shed more if that makes any sense. I have success with lighter oils like EVCO and EVOO.

I have seen a derm in the past and was told i have seborrheic dermatitis. I was given clotrimazole and steroid oil to help with the flakes. I no longer have flaking (acv rinses helped with this a lot).

I once read on an Indian hair site that it is normal to have shedding after an oiling. These are "dead" hairs that were going to fall out anyway so new strands can come through.

I think I understand now. One thing I can say is, before I embarked on my use of growth aids such as JBCO I researched expected "side" effects. One was a slight increase in shedding which was said to be considered temporary as long as it smoothed out within 4 to 6 weeks. Anything longer than 6 weeks warranted a visit to the dermatologist. I kept this in mind.

So from personal experience, I also had more than normal shedding of white bulb hairs INITIALLY. It was a little disconcerting but I also took the time to examine the quality of shed hair. I realized that, for me, I was shedding that sickly ultra-thin hair. About 3 1/2 weeks into my new regimen, the shedding slowed down back to my regular rate of shed hair. After sticking with it, now my hair looks and feels thicker. I am still amazed by how healthy it looks now.

Whatever you decide to do, remember patience has to be part of the program. It really does take some time to get your hair back on track. I know a lot of people, me included, feels a little disheartened when we see more hair than normal on the floor or in our fav brush.

I would suggest structuring a regimen that includes internal care (good lean proteins, complex carbs, fruits and veggies), supplements like garlic, MSM and exercise (great for blood circulation) along with your external regimen.

Mzteaze i wish i could thank you 100 times! I was not aware of the initial shedding that may be experienced with certain oils.

Unfortunately i can be very impatient and stopped when i noticed too much shedding. I want to give JBCO another try and with my new understanding of the "side effects" I feel confident in doing so.

I also stopped exercising and a few months ago and i know that had a negative effect on everything. Its time for me to start again.

Began taking flaxseed oil today!

Benefit of Flaxseed Oil on Hair | eHow.com
Flaxseed Oil Benefits & Information

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil (14 grams a day) provides substances called lignans which may help fight cancer, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Flaxseed oil boosts the health of hair and nail and speeds the healing of scalp lesions that may contribute to hair loss. A recent study involving ten men between the ages of 20 and 70 in varying stages of male pattern baldness ( AGA) showed that 8 of the subjects reported modest improvement of their hair loss condition, one reported much improvement and one subject reported no effect. Throughout the study, the daily numbers of hair loss decreased.
