Why is Vertical better than horizontal?

hey there
I read on one of the threads that braiding your hair in a vertical direction for sew-in weaves, is better than Horizontal, for growth and protection of real hair.

Just curious to know why this is true. I recently begin attempting to cornroll my hair. Once I get better at it, I believe my next progression is to attempt to sew-in my weave.

thanks to all who reply

The vertical braids will put less stress of the hair..its hard to explain but if you visualize it, the same strands aren't supporting the whole track of hair...five or more cornrows are. this will lead to less breakage

In addition to what cutiebe said, it also allows the weave to lay flatter and isn't as bulky. The braids would get too big when going horizontally. If you go vertical, it's going in the direction of your hair. Also, my braids would always unravel in the middle from washing when done horizontally.
