Self Highlights?? HElp Please

So I damaged my hair years ago by doing my own highlights using a frosting kit, and dyed my hair a few years later with a loreal hair colour. Now thanks to LHCF all of that color is gone and I have dark brown hair thanks to bigen. I am tired of the 'dark look" now and am thinking about buying a cap with holes and textures and tones dye and ill do highlights that way. Hopefully this color experience will work better for me since I know that my hair improved from moisturizing, gentle care, no stylits except the occasional blowouts when I have to go somewhere important. but i usually do my hair myself, wash blow dry (investing in mesh rollers), then flat iron (hopefully the rollers will eliminate the flat iron)

So sorry to get off topic just worried and i dont want to lose all my progress. how does my color idea sound??
