Bunning Challenge 2010?

Steamed for 2 hours, rollerset and put my hair up in a ponytail today. After about 10 minutes of this I realized I kept "flipping" my hair around and touching it just way too much. Ugh how annoying HIA Disease is! So I put my hair up in a bun again. Hurts my feelings to put my hair up in a bun after a fresh rollerset LOL  That's what I get for having hair in afro disease.

One of my friend's commented on my pearls and grandma bun LOL like if it was supposed to be a joke :ohwell: I said jokes on you fool, I AM a grandma! Shout out to Leilany, my baby doll.

BM, your rollerset buns are kind of making me consider changing my regimen and rollersetting once a week instead of every other week.

Can I join? I'm trying to get to APL by May and I'm already bunning during the week anyway because of going to the gym. My problem is keeping my hands out of my hair. Even when it's in a bun I have to take it down at least once a day just to comb it and put it back into a bun. Here's my regimen:

Wash/Cowash (once each per week)
Condition
Reconstructor
Wet bun - I don't use any elastics, only pins
Rollerset (once a week)
Moisturize as needed

I will join you. Since I have been working out 5 days a week I have only been bunning my hair and I want to bun until the summer to reach my goal of full apl.

It just works for me right now because I can't go more than 7 days without washing my hair. I am bunning immediately after just to avoid the temptation of wearing it out.

Looking back, this is what my mom used to do back in the 70's to my hair. Only difference is that she used to wash it every 30 days! LOL Ewww!!! :nono::blush:

Well since I am an "Official Member" today this is the best way for me to hit the ground running.

I normally wear my hair in a bun during the week so hopefully this challenge won't be too difficult.

My routine is very simple:

Co-Wash Daily
Wet Bun (Donut or don't pull hair through elastic)
Grapeseed Oil for the ends (when I remember)
DC weekly (when I remember)
Henna (when the grey's take over)

Here is my daily bun:

Do any of you sleep in your buns? If so how do you manage and when do you take it down. Also if you redo your bun everyday how to prevent the manipulation no to give you a setback or anything.

Also what do you do to the front of your hair because just wearing a bun pulled back makes the front of my head feel so plain.

I was never big on hair accessories until now. I left PJism alone (well a lil bit :lachen:) and I really don't want to leave one crack habit for another LOL Please show us your stash!

Do you mind posting Chicoro's 3 step process? I can't look at Fotki from work :nono:

What are you using to wrap the bun in place? I cut up some nylons and I'm using it to hold the ponytail. I got the idea from Chicoro. At first I thought it was silly, but her hair is long so she must be on to something! LOL

The cuticles on hair strands operate like a vent. The cuticles raise and lift and they lower and close. Some soaps tend to raise the cuticle and some conditioners tend to lower the cuticles. When you finish washing and conditioning your hair, you really want to have your cuticles lowered and closed tightly.

1. Water Based: Water based concoctions are the first to reach the permeable hair strand. They are good to soften the cuticle. They absorb and evaporate the fastest so these go on the hair first. I usually make a panthenol, glycerine, water based type of mixture and sometimes may add aloe. I might add a drop of two of vitamin e and 3-5 drops of rosemary oil to preserve it.

2. Oil and Aloe/Water Based: Oils in general are slower to absorb and they can provide nutrition to the hair along with the aloe vera. These will absorb and evaporate slower than just plain water based concoctions.

3. Heavy Cream/Emulsified Based: These tend to sit on the hair strand and hold in the moisture on the hair strand and are used to seal in the oil based (#2) and the water based (#1) concoctions.

Once you have sealed the hair strand strategically, then you can protect the hair with the covering of your choice. Please keep in mind that the covering should keep the moisture on the strand. Plastic holds moisture the best. You will have to determine what will work best for you, based upon your personal and lifestyle needs.

Im currently using goody hair pins, or a scrunchi or a hair comb that I have to pin up my bun...I need more hair toys

I'm moisturizing my hair similar to Chicoro's 3 step process. For #1, I'm using African Royale BRX spray as my water base. For #2, I'm using Hot Six Oil as my oil base. For #3, I'm using Aussie Moist Conditioner as my cream base. Then I just put my hair in a bun. I redo my bun daily, sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night depending on how I feel.

im down!!!!!!!!!! count me in on on this challenge!
DCING 1-2X A week..bunning 6-7 days a week...
daily moisturizing and doing most buns without elastics unless I am going out the house...

Yep yours is very similar. Im using GD leave-in mixed with some water as my water based, CD lisas hair elixir oil and then NTM daily deep condition since it is creamy

I'm trying to spice my buns up with new ways to keep them up. I bought this hair fork from a cart in the middle of the mall yesterday afternoon. Once she showed me how it worked I came home and purchased 5 more from 2 different etsy shops and 3 from eleganthairacc.com. I'm contemplating purchasing some flexi 8's as well. :perplexed

Here's a pic of my bun today.

Hi,

I'm still going strong too...I messed myself up doing a "wet bun", but I have learned from my mistakes, lol.

I tried to do that Twist and Bun today for work but it turned out just sad, my hair has absolutely no depth to it so it looked like a little turd ball in the back of my head :lachen:without the donut to give my hair fullness I wouldn't be able to wear a bun at all. Fine 3c hair, it's a curse and a blessing. I did try it on wet hair, maybe if I ever straigten my hair I will try it again and see if my results are different.

The bun I've been wearing for the past two weeks. It's been really easy so far! I've been bunning for about a month now =)

waves, where is the frizz? Are you just showing off or something? LOL
I love your hair toy! I got a new one a few days ago. I bought it off Etsy and yes I copied DLewis too LOL

I wore my bun all weekend, but I didn't comb my hair. Wow I was a hot mess LOL I washed, DC'd, and rollerset my hair yesterday. I brushed out my hair and did a bun, but I couldn't lay down my edges with the flatiron because for some reason my CHI is broken. I got my boring bun on today and I will keep my hair up till Saturday.

Is it too late to join this challenge? I am already in the winter bun challenge but that ends next month and I think I want to keep going until June. I am like you Boston; I am hoping for three inches by then which will put me at WL. If it is too late to be official I am more than happy to be an unofficial member (if you all will have me), I got to get in where I fit in .

Oh and Waves, that bun looks great :yep:! I ordered some toys from Etsy this weekend as well and I was so tempted to get that fork. I ended up getting some wooden hair sticks and a wooden ornament from the same vendor. I can't wait till they get here! HHG

I'm not that organized so you could've asked me to let you join in May and I would've said hellz yeah! :lachen:

Your hair is lovely and I'm sure you'll reach your goal. Once I reach full WSL my next goal is to be hip length. I'm grateful for every inch of hair I can retain.

The frizz at the nape -yucks me out.
Did you buy the exact same one? I was tempted to get more from her. I think I will. You should post a picture of yours too.

Did you guys see that new hair toy thread? It's like vibrators for us (hair) porn addicts :lachen:

Is there anywhere else besides the internet I can order a hair fork like that? I hate ordering things off the internet especially when paying for shipping.

Your bun is really cute btw

Thanks wavesofmotion. I don't know where else you could get something like this. She handcrafts them. Maybe an arts fair or something.

But her shipping is really low - $2.25 and less if you order another item

Thanks for letting me join and for the compliment. I really love your hair; it is so thick and full from root to tip!

I am hoping to get to HL too so I am feeling you on keeping every inch. I need every mm to reach my goal :lachen:.

Please count me in I could use the motivation. I'll post a photo after I perm my hair this weekend. I'll be bunning for 7 days.
