What didn't you know before LHCF?........

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

Pre-LHCF, I didn't know about...

*conditioner washes
*using s-curl on anything else besides jheri curls /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
*mixing EVOO with hair products
*only using queen helene cholesterol was drying my hair
*clarifying shampoos
*kenra products
*stretching perms longer than 5 weeks actually can be done
*surge products
*ceramic flat irons are better
*suave products would actually work in my hair
*only thought shea butter was used for the skin
*my hair can actually grow past my shoulders

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

A regular flat iron never worked on my hair, either. And I also thought that I needed a relaxer ever 4-6 weeks, because thats what my bald headed stylist said! /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif! I have to agree with you nfynit_812, I never knew you could use s-curl on permed (new growth) to keep it soft and manageable!

Sometimes, my satin scarf slips off my head at night......so........I tie over it with my OLD cotton one! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

I didn't know about:

Kenra products
Surge products
Conditioner washes
Clarifying shampoos
Bone combs
Denman brushes
WGO
Salerm 21
Lacio Lacio

and the list goes on............. /images/graemlins/covereyes.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

Um, just about everything! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I knew nothing before coming here! It's a wonder I had hair!

The first time I read that you can moisturize your hair with s-curl, what popped in my head was the movie 'Coming To America' with the commercial 'Soul Glo'.... /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

"Just let your soooooooooooul glooooooooooooooo...feeling oh so silky smooth...just let it shine thruuuuuuuu...just let your sooooooooooooooooooul glooooooooooo.... soul glo ..."

Now I use it faithfully /images/graemlins/look.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

DeniseH, Your hair is beautiful! Great before and after pics. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let's see. Before LHCF, I did not know that a hairstyle was possible that didn't involve a pressing comb and plug-in hot curlers!

I did not know that silk and satin scarves keep your hair from looking THIRSTY and can lay down my edges and preserve my style.

I did not know that water was a friend and not a foe of my hair.

There's more, but those stand out in my mind.

/images/graemlins/lachen70.gif /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif I think about that movie, too! I was afraid my hair was going to be all wet and sticky! /images/graemlins/lachen70.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

I initially got started on the road to better hair following Cathy Howse...then I came upon this treasure trove of knowledge...the LHCF...

I knew about Dominican conditioners and products already...

I didn't know about pj'ism until I got here...
I learned about CO washes...bad boys got me through the summer I tell ya!

Pre poo treatments, utilizing honey, olive oil, coconut oil and essential oils in my life.

Keracare and NTM products (now my staples), bugging companies for hair samples, using a clarifying shampoo
(hot d*mn, it DOES make a difference), using VO5, Suave and other cheapie conditioners (they actually work for me!)...

Oh Lawd...I can't forget the coconut milk and lime! That is saving me right now as I enter week 9 post touch up w/underprocessed hair.

Ooooh...and SURGE and Biotin Creme...and....

okay..this must stop.

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

Surge, daily conditioner washes, i cna transiton without doing a big chop (can do little chops as I go along)

edit: and cheap conditioners...Suave in particular....are great for Co Washes!

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

I was totally missing the benefits of:

Cream of Nature shampoo
Ceramic Irons
Bone Combs
Leave In Conditioners

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

The question that I wouldn't be able to answer is what did I know...

I never used conditioner on my hair, heck, I barely washed it because it was full of BONDING GLUE. Then I would tear out the glue and put a no-lye relaxer right on top of it just to make sure the front was straight while the hair was glued in. Then when I did wear my hair I didn't know that I shouldn't flat iron it 2x's a day (before and after school). And I most certainly didn't know why all those broken hair’s would be in the sink and all over my clothes, I thought it was normal. So pretty much I didn't know any thing about growing and maintaining healthy hair or what products you would use to achieve it :crazy

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

What didn't I know before LHCF?
- conditioner washes (what no shampoo?)
- washing and moisturizing braids were possible w/o the fizzies
- you can style "our" hair without heat
- you can air dry "our" hair
- frequent washing = happy hair and scalp
- extending a relaxer can be good for your hair
- I know what's best for my hair

I picked it b/c it looks a lot like me... /images/graemlins/look.gif

Truth be told, I had no idea what an avatar was until LHCF either. I also had no idea there were other women out there that loved doing (hair) and talking about all things related to hair as much as I do!

[/ QUOTE ]

That's ok. I'm not scared anymore. /images/graemlins/cool.gif There were a few others that had me going also, not just your's alone.

I bet you are a pretty lady.

LOL! Yeah, I can only imagine your reaction to Huggette's avatar and Asummertyme had some interesting ones back then, too!

Oh, and thx for the lil compliment! /images/graemlins/antlers.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

Conditioner washes, PJism, Dominican conditioners, Indian shampoos and hair oils, Elucence, shea butter, we can use "white" hair products too, and how to do differnt styles like braidouts and buns.

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

I didn't know that I could take care of my own hair. I had always thought that you HAD to go to a hair stylist, lol. I learned that grease is not the same as moisture, and I got totally turned on to Elasta QP Mango Butter. That is the one product that I have stuck with over the years!

Hugs,
Crys

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

For me, it has to be Surge. This is where I discovered more information about it and this is where I saw pictures of the first two people who inspired me to go out and buy it because their hair growth/results were shocking /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Oh, and let me not forget conditioner washes. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

Before I started lurking on here I never knew about:
-How well Suave products could work for my hair
-That my hair needed moisture
-That dirty hair doesn't grow faster(yes someone tried to tell me that)
-Protective styles
-How to rollerset
-What a good heat protectant was. The old one I had stunk and made my hair sticky.
-That stretching relaxers was good for my hair
-About Biotin and MSM

There are so many more things that I could add. LOL.

Re: What didn\'t you know before LHCF?........

WaterChylde, I was also told (all through high school) that dirty hair grows faster. All my friends would walk around with dry new growth and dandruff, and they never gained any growth, and their hair looked a hot mess.
