Relaxer vs. Texlaxing

Hi Ladies,

I am sitting here contemplating whether or not to go natural....I am relaxed, but ya'll I am tired of relaxing bone straight. I love my texture:perplexed, but with my hair if I stretch too long my hair will start to break off (9 weeks tops). What to do???? Any advice I would sincerely appreciate, the relaxers are in my opinion starting to thin my hair out, and I know that is a sign of relaxing too often. Help:look:

When I relax my hair I am using Linange Shea butter lye relaxer...

I'm natural now and I have no product knowledge. I'm just bumping the thread so you can get some good advice.

You're going to have to sit and weigh the pros and cons of each. I've done this and I'm relaxed. Natural hair just doesn't fit what I'm looking to do. If you could master stretching you could become an infrequent relaxer such as 1-3 times yearly

I transitioned from Relaxed bone straight to Texlaxed for 1 year.
Now i'm fully texlaxed and i looooove it.
its a lot more work tho VS bone straight. But my hair is so much fuller.
I too got really thin hair from relaxing bone straight. And i stretched 14-17 weeks every relaxer.

My hair has definitely thinned out from the relaxer throughout the years. I tried texlaxing but I was never sure about timing and all that. I was ending up with too many textures. I started on a stretch to try to gain some thickness this past December and decided to go natural this week! I will see how it goes. Good luck on your hair journey!!

rufus12 Hi! Natural chiming in but i am a 4 year LHCF vet.. didnt know it had been that long sheesh. Anyway, the breakage is due to not using enough protein in your regimen. The line of demarcation, that's where your relaxed hair meets your natural hair, is the weakest point in your hair and thats where your protein is also the weakest. You should def use the search function to search back some years.

Most of the posts about stretching and texlaxing, when they were prevalnt on this board are back in 2009 and 2010 but i did find some oldies but goodies for you. I hope this helps.

It Always Been About Hair!
My mom has the same problem. She is/was relaxed. Her hair is/was so thin possibly because of relaxers. I told her to go natural but she wouldn't. So finally I convinced her to textlax. This was last year. Her hair is sooooooooo thick and full now. I'm glad she eased up on the relaxers. I tell people all the time, relaxers aren't for everybody. Sometimes you just have to go natural to keep your hair on your head. However I'm the exact opposite. My hair looooove some creamy crack! Besides, it's too thick when it's relaxed which makes me too scared to tackle the thickness it would become if I was natural. Good luck doll.

Maybe you should incorporate a weekly or biweekly mild protein treament like Aphogee keratin in your reggie, this outta strengthen your hair and stop the breakage when you stretch.
