No more powders! Need info on ayurvedic oils

Over the last month, I have been using alma, brahmi, cassia, and other powders in my hair. No matter how long I co wash and rinse, there are always grains left behind. I've decided to stop using powders and move on to oils instead.

Now, I need a good source for Ayurvedic oils. I'm looking for maki, brahmi, alma, and fenugreek in particular. The oil has to have a pleasant smell! I have put together various oils on my own, and have not been happy with the heavy oily scent. I'm not interested at this point in infusing oils. Maybe I'll try again in the future.

Coconut, castor, and rice bran are my favorites, but I can use most oils without a problem. Please give me some suggestions for where I can purchase an oil to use daily on my hair.

I use powders in my tea rinses like Nix08 said and I use them to make a paste mixed with my conditioner with awesome results. The trick with both is to get a smooth mixture.

For my tea rinses, I only use a little powder (like a 1/2 tsp each). I brew my tea bags in a pot with 3-5 cups of water, let it come to a rapid boil for 10 mins then turn down to simmer. Take out the tea bags, add the powder and stir. You will see the tea start to get a little more cloudy which means its starting to dissolve. Once it cools it should be ready to go. Sometimes I add coconut milk to this.

Amla might be the grainy culprit bc its hard to dissolve. You might be better off avoiding amla powder and get the oil if its not finely sifted.

For a conditioner gloss, I mix the powders with a HOT liquid first and stir until I get a lumpy paste. Add a few pinches of sugar to help smooth it out. I use a wooden spatula to mix and then add conditioner, oils, etc. stir it up really well but the hot liquid dissolve them better than cool or room temp liquids. It should be smooth but thick enough to scoop up with your fingers without dripping.

I hope you might consider giving it another try; esp if you still have powders left to use up. Good luck!

I LOVE this HHJ!!

The Keraveda website looks really good. They have a lot of options. The super ego oil especially looks interesting.

Wasn't there some kind of controversy about Keraveda earlier this year? I'm not sure if it was a shipping problem or a product problem. I think that I remember reading something a few months ago.

Oh my goodness. I just realized that the Keraveda bottles are just 4 ounces! I think that I'll try annabelle and take advantage of the 20% off this month.

mshoneyfly,

After I took my bun down Saturday night, dark powder floated down into my sink. I wonder if that was all alma?

I had this problem when I first started with the powders, especially the fenugreek. My hair was coated in sticky "curry", lol. I dropped the fenugreek and just use Amla, bhringraj, shikakai, henna, and brahmi. I found that what works best for me, is to put some conditioner in a squirt bottle and add water and cowash that way instead of just rubbing conditioner directly on my head and rinsing. I don't know why that works, but it acts like a shampoo when you do that And gets all the powders out. I usually end up doing it twice in the shower. I also use less conditioner that way.

It's an 8 oz bottle and I put maybe 2-3 squirts in the bottle and fill the rest with water and shake well.

Have you ever used Vadik Herbs Brami Oil? If so, what does it smell like and how do you like compared to the one you posted in the link?

I did go ahead and order from both KerVada and Annabell on Sunday. I am really impressed w KerVada's shipping. I had a tracking number on Monday (Columbus Day when the post office is closed). My product just arrived today. It smells wonderful. I can't wait to use it Saturday, after I have washed all the old bad smelling oil out of my hair.

My Annabelle Ayurvedic oil arrived Saturday. I got tangerine and blueberry cheesecake. So far I have only tried the tangerine, which smells AMAZING!

I've noticed with the Kera Veda that the pleasant scent seems to dissipate after a few hours, and then I can smell the oil. I don't get the same response w Annabelle's. Maybe her scent is stronger, but I don't end up smelling the oil. I wonder if she would share the name of the essential oil company. I absolutely love this scent
