KimmayTube Hair Porn!

My take on the Natrual grow up video was more of vent, which is understandable, becasue many people love to comment saying that her hair type is not what she says it is and that she shouldn't listen to anything relaxed heads have to say because they are relaxed which can be annoying.

I saw it like, can everyone stop bickering about the small stuff and move on?

Back to the topic at hand, Kimmay has beautiful hair. I don't watch her for many reasons. Mostly for the reasons stated above and I think it's odd that she finds it necessary to record herself in the shower so often. (I also have the urge to say her name like Timmy for South Park...what's up with that "A" at the end.)

OMGosh!!! This is how I say her name in my head as well :lachen:

well excuse me then.. =/

I think manter was very helpful in her response to you. If you even watch Kimmay's channel she discusses how acidic, therefore harmful, acv can be to the hair.

I don't understand how you could think acv would be a good substitute for aloe juice.

I watch her video's and I don't remember her saying it was bad for hair.. just that it doesn't take much to change the ph of water.. so you don't need half a bottle... it was a simple questi0n that I was wondering the answer to.. I don't need anyone saying to me I don't know how you could ever think they could be substituted.. may as well called me a dumb bxtch.. but its whatever. I guess I opened myself up for gunfire when I asked a question

I had to go back and watch the "Naturals, Grow up" video again, because the first time I saw it, it didn't really incite any issues with me. But reading this thread made me understand why some things Kimmay's doing now might come back and bite her in the butt ( I said might, ok?)down the road :look: My reasons are below:

1) It appears that this perceived "arrogance" is similar to that age-old concept of a "newly educated natural". Anyone who's been on the deemed contemptful "hair forums" since their inception has seen it time and time again. (Anyone remember Dr. Suny and the Delphi hair forum for Black Hair Care? Or Yahoo! Black Hair Super Grow Out?? Yeah I see you, lol) Many times, someone who is newly natural [on their own] starts learning about their hair and seeing results and starts vilifying what everyone else out there (esp relaxed heads, and some other naturals too) is doing. In this case, I think it just took her a little longer to get to that 'stage'.

When I first went natural at 18 yrs old in 2001, I experienced it too. I bought all the books, did all the techniques and thumbed my nose at everyone who didn't know what I 'knew'. (Even when I relaxed again in 2005, I knew I had figured out the key to "making it [Black Hair] work"...I am going back natural now, because at the end of it all, there is no 'one size fits all'--it's all about what you can handle and what you're willing to do for yourself, not the community) I wasn't doing it intentionally, but the experience of learning something different from the status quo caused that response. So...I guess, every time I see Kimmay behave with this "arrogance" I shrug it off. I guess because in the back of my mind, I think "ehh, she'll learn". Does that make sense?? :look:

I remember when Nappturality was created (I was one of the first members that first year) and I remember feeling so guilty for leaving "the boards" to go heat straighten my hair, and then eventually return to relaxers, only to realize that there's more than one way that "works" and laughing at them...heck, I leave here for months at a time and come back to laugh at a lot of the topics that come up about hair because it's so interesting to see if and when the "light bulb" comes on for people...

Ok, I digress...So to the poster who said that Kimmay is dead wrong for saying that the past 10 yrs have been moot, I say "Hallelujah, Amen" because that is on point. Just because Kimmay's progress took so long to reach "Hair Nirvana" doesn't mean the everyone else's did or will...And the "hair forums" for whom she carries such obvious disdain prove that exquisitely.

2) As many folks that Kimmay has coming at her crazy in emails and YT comments, there are those who are also watching to see if she will really reach her goals personally and professionally. Like I said, there are some of us who have been around a long time, and found out the same info she is finding out now and more, but if she starts thinking she's at Ivy League Hair status based off of a couple of books and some pH strips when she's still in Hair high school AP classes, this is going to be a bumpy road to the top. Especially as an entrepreneur. While I do agree that there is a lot of issue with the Black Hair care industry already, turning off people who've already been doing it long before you have won't win you any friends (or customers). Just a word for the wise in good business.

3) Thirdly, if one realizes that they have big personal and entrepreneurial dreams, and will have to become somewhat of a known figure, the last thing one should do is let that attitude loose on camera. I also agree that she should have deleted it--or even better recorded it, watched it, and then re-filmed with a better self-directed mindset. When you have goals like that, it is important to remind yourself that all kinds of people are watching you. And yes you cannot please everyone but if you still want their money down the road, you need to watch that mess. Don't believe me, look at any celebrity out that that has longevity. Humility and gratitude goes a much longer way, y'all. Leave the drama at the front door when the camera is on.

Wow, I really didn't intend to type this much. ("Bones" is playing on tv right now ) but I needed to state my opinion on this. I'm not saying she will continue down that path or anything, but she should just be more mindful in the future...a million subscribers can easily turn to none in a short amount of time.

The End. (ps. Yes I subscribe to her. I respect and appreciate her overall goals) :yep:

Please can someone post her leave in recipe (I can't access youtube).

TIA

Someone please correct me if i am wrong :)

1 oz. creamy leave in (she uses kcnt. I like giovanni direct )
1 oz. aloe vera juice with a pH between 4-5
( she uses whole leaf juice, some have used the gel)
2 tsp jojoba oil
2 tsp castor oil ( some use jbco, but I really don't think that it matters)
* mix well. This is enough for bra strap length hair in 1 application. She said that you can store leftovers in the fridge but not for long, since she doesn't know what the exact shelf life would be*

ALSO - the application of the leave-in matters. This should be done on wet or damp hair. You apply it in a downward smoothing motion.

The source I looked at says pH 2.8- 3. This is a logarithmic difference. I'm sure some would argue on the scale of 1-14, it could be worse. My bottom line is these substances are completely different chemicals. Acidity and alkalinity are not the sole determinants of chemical composition. To reuse my example it's like taking one property of a compound, ie crystaline structure, and dumping 1 cup of salt in a cake. Yes, they have something similar about them, but the chemical composition is very different. ...that's just my two cents.

yes, I believe there is n important information missing: I can put lemon juice in a relaxer until I get ph 4 to 5 but I guess my hair won't be as happy.
I like the research Kimmaytube tries to do but I don't like the fact that she wants to become the best and the only one referent and source, as she states. there is space for everybody and there are different approaches and points of view in the world.

1 apple + 1 apple = 2 apples.
1 brain + another brain = more ideas.

I love her hair but I can't get with the way she talks.

Yeah I can't figure out why she's talking to her viewers like they are slow or like english is our 2nd language or something. Not sure what kind of benefits I'd get out of it but as long as she talks like that I'd have to watch her videos on mute or something. :ohwell:

I think she does a good job and put quality videos online. I am a relax head and am not offended. She is online to educate on what her research finds as what other ladies online are doing on their own experiments on their hair and marking their hair growth and health. I like the fact she is up front about making money while educating and providing youtubers that information. No matter what everyone needs to take what people put out there and do their own research, because no what we are human and can't always take bais out of our work.

We can always twist things to our own desire conclusions.

I love Kimmay! I think she provides such great information, and takes a lot of time to research and present your findings. It's all evidence based, and not something she's just throwing out there. I really appreciate her goal of being a global, natural spokesperson. I think she'll handle that really well, so I wish her best of luck! It'll be really nice to see someone with similiar afro textured hair out there.

Let us know how it works with the Giovanni. I've tried it with KCNT and it wasn't all that on my hair. I've tried it with KBB hair milk and it was nice. I love Giovanni so if it works then maybe it will be a staple.

Could you enhance the shelf life with honey? It's a natural anti-bacterial and if mixed well wouldn't be sticky or hard to emulsify.

yeah... i saw this one in the natural forum, they use honey

Ingredients
1/2 - 1 cup of AOHR or (KCKT)
1 tbsp of Raw Honey
1/4 cup of Aloe Vera Juice
3 tbsp of Jojoba Oil

ETA: I have since added HoneyQuat and Panthenol to this concoction. FAB!

Directions
Mix all in a a bowl and distribute sparingly on the hair. Sit under the steamer for 20 minutes or use with a shower cap for 30 - 45 minutes.

to me the honey has not stiffened it
