How can I keep track of my emails?

If I post a reply to an already existing thread, I often forget the title of the thread (especially if I'm participating in multiple discussions, or don't log in everyday etc.) which makes is difficult to search through the many many pages of posts. I can also miss out on answers to my questions.

How are you all following your multiple conversations? Can someone suggest a way to do this (not including writing the name of each thread on a piece of paper that I've either made a comment or posted in!).
