Emergency-Chopping hip length hair to 4 inches

My mom and sister are about to chop my nieces hip length hair to about four inches due to some matting issues. My sister started using Kinky Curl on my nieces hair last week. It is my understanding that she did not use the product according to directions and continued to apply the product to dry hair. Yesterday was wash day. My niece had be sleeping with her hair loose without a scarf for about 10 days. According to my Mom she has one huge dread in the back. They have washed with Wen, regular shampoo, ect. They can comb the dread out but if her hair is left alone it dreads back up. My Mom also says that the texture of her hair is off. To me it sounds like a chemical reaction with another product but they won't entertain the idea. Does anyone have any suggestions before they start chopping. They are getting ready to go to the hair dressers right now. I'm worried because he has been suggesting cutting and relaxing my nieces hair for the past few years. Even though my niece who is 8 has told my sister several times she doesn't want a relaxer or texturizer I think she will be getting one today on top of the damage she already has on her hair. My fear she will be bald when she goes back to school. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've heard of people having problems with matting and conditioners after weaves but I never have had a problem using conditioner if my hair is kinda matted, so I personally would deep condition a.s.a.p.

My daughter's hair dreads really bad if I leave it out. Her hair is tbl. I just have to be patient and comb her hair out from ends to root. I apply warm aloe Vera juice, then a leave in (taliah waajid), then grape seed oil. It takes me a couple hours to comb it out when it gets like that but with patience it can be done.

ETA I do this on damp hair after deep conditioning.

If they have patience, Cowboy Magic can help unravel dreads and bad tangles. I would pour some oil in there and start to let that marinate. With patience, I believe the hair can be salvaged.

dicapr, please don't let them cut your niece's hair. Tell them finger detangle her hair section by section with EVCO drenched fingers, while watching some good long movies.

I suggest tons of oil like Olive oil or coconut oil and use some VO5 tea therapy condish or treseme naturals deep condition her hair it will come out it might take a while but it will....tell them relax why would they want to cut that poor child hair

Are they trying to detangle with a comb? If so, tell them to stop immediately and try to detangle SLOWLY with their oiled fingers using the harp method: http://youtu.be/e21IxOAT75A
They need to be very patient (it may take four hours or more), but it can be done without losing a lot of hair.

I agree with the above. Sounds like they didn't remove the shed hairs and then dried her hair out with the shampoo which aggravates any matting. Oil and conditioner will help. You want to loosen the shed hair from the rest of the hair as much as possible.

^^^^^ all good advice. they need to take thier time and detangle her hair. then do an aphgogee to restore the hair structure. then deep moisture. then BUY HER A SCARF! WTH????

i would add, DO NOT TAKE HER TO THIS STYLIST!

obviously he doesn't give a darn about her hair! why would he want to relax that little girl's hair???? SHE'S EIGHT!!!!

i gotta good mind to jump on a plane and slap dude!........

stomps out of thread outraged.......

KCCC? That stuff is full of aloe and my hair does ball up (mat) and break with that product.

Everyone is right---they need to get a couple bottles of the V05. the strawberries and cream moisture milk is the most slippy. steer them away from condish that contains ANY protein because that might make it worse.

Then patience as they will spend the rest of the day taking out the matts with their fingers.

NO RELAXER! OMG! NOOO! Her hair will probably never see anything past SL again... :nono:

Omg! I hope they didnt cut her hair and allow the stylist to relax her hair!!! Condition! Condition! Condition! Patience! Patience! Patience!

Excuse my typos-Im more than likely on my phone

Do you live near them? If so, rescue her ASAP.
If not, send all those products to your mom and sister. They can't use any excuse like "I didn't find it" if you already send it to them.

Sent from my iPad...excuse the typos.

i just cut my BSB hair to NL. i had knots in my hair so bad, there was nothing that could be done. i tried everything to get those knots out and worked on them for hours. her hair will grow back.

I had a clear mental patient as a client. She had very thin bsl hair that looked like a birds nest that had not been combed in months. Some parts had started loc'g up.

It took 2 days but she still has bsl thin hair :yep: it can be done.

The exact same thing happened to me in January. Went from about BSLto NL. Yes, it will definitely grow back, but if there is a way to save her hair. By all means, dooooooooo it.
