I know this is not the response you were hoping for, but IMO don't do it. I got highlights back in the spring and was itching to go back to my dark, shiny hair the whooooole 6 months I had them. Finally wen't back to black this wednesday and boyyyy does it feel good to be back!

If you are sure you are going to color it I say go to a salon so you don't end up with self inflicted orange hair full of breakage. They'll be able to tell you how light you can go without bleaching. I think they may have to use some bleach to get the results you want, though.

You may have to bleach to lighten your hair. I know I had to have mine bleached in order to get a similar color when I was rocking the blonde bang. I tried to do it at home and it only took at my roots. She had to bleach it at the shop.
ETA: I wouldn't do it if I were you though... that whole process damaged my hair (when I expanded to blonde highlights) and was the reason I had to cut my hair from CBL to EL. It broke off ridiculously and it's sooo much work to make blonde look healthy and not like hay growing out of your head. Not saying you shouldn't moisturize your own hair when it's dry but when the blonde gets dry? Smh. It's a mess.

well i will say ...... GOOOOO FOR IT!!! LOL

seriously i can't wait to color .... but getting my anti-breakage routine down first
problems i see... box colors suck! lol (for hair preservation) trust me i've been on that box color for about 15 yrs... in fact i've never ever had a professional color

other problem... to get that result on the box.... u'll need to leave it own forever! at least as long as the box indicates (still wont be exact).... and the longer you leave it in the worst the probable damage

i use to be a fan of lightening in steps.... b/c i would leave color on only 8 minutes max

one thing possible is LIFTING the hair ... for a shorter period then overlaying with rinses
as beautiful as your hair appears, i'd go to a clairol color specialist if i were you idunno
but when i am ready to color....i will USE HEAT maybe once every year or even TWO years :spinning: after coloring
i feel i must do a give & take.... but i'd rather have color over heat use anyday
i use to have a color challenge on kiss & hairlista
I WOULD SAY CHECK OUT TRACYEE FROM KISS BLOGSPOT ON THE HOW SHE'S CARING FOR HER HAIR AFTER HER COLOR
(also shima... roflmao!!!!) and shima used a box similar to what u have above
the other thing i will be doing is steaming alot and COLORING THE TOP HALF OF MY HAIR longer than the bottom
for instance i want to minimize the residual damage :)
I don't what black and blonde hair contrasts.... but i PLAN (tenatively) to lift the bottom only slightly and mainly color the top

yep yep.... u think it's serious now:lachen: gurrrrrl when i DO color, i'll be pH balancing my ARSE off!

To answer your question, yes it will work, I used to dye my hair with the same exact box that you had and it did lighten my 1b hair. Sometimes it comes with a little booster packet to make it a more intense color. You're pretty and it would look cute on you but make sure ur hair is in good shape to be dying or even attempting to dye. Make sure you update us and post a pick if and when you do color it.

Also, the pic of me in my siggy is of the color but I stopped the process early so it wouldn't go to light on me.

Make sure you use at least two boxes and deep condition immediately afterwards...

Let us know how wonderful it turns out!

You might consider going to a professional for lightening your hair. I went to an Aveda salon in August this year to get my hair colored and got carmel high lights their products are suppose to be 97% less chemicals and less drying for the hair, so far I love the condition of my hair. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be and I had an excellent stylist. I still do protein conditioning once a week with a deep moisturing conditioner. Will probably go lighter on my base color next year, I'm trusting them to lighten my hair again. HHG

OP, I understand why you are itching to color, I love color, too- as you can see! But, I leave mine to the professionals...If you do decide to do it, please be prepared for the aftercare associated with color...You will definitely have to baby your hair! Keep us posted!
