What heat protectant do you use on your relaxed hair?

Maybe I'm just using it the wrong way, but whenever I use any type of heat protectant I can't get that swang in my hair that I like. :wallbash: After I run the flat iron over it, it gets hard and stiff. Then when I comb it out, it's ok, but it seems like I'm causing some breakage by doing this...does anyone else have this problem? I use a CHI and it doesn't have a heat setting (does anyone know the temperature of it?)

I can't remember the brands that I used because it was so long ago, but if you guys could suggest a good one, I am willing to try again. Also for those of you that use SMB...is that only good for naturals?

:whyme:

I'm transistioning now but I use the Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. i love it because it has a fine mist, its light, dosen't make my hair feel crunchy or oily.

I have yet to use SMB but I think there are some relaxed ladies who use it.

Fantasia IC - swang evermore.

For me, the key to getting light hair with a lot of body is making sure that heat protectant is the only thing on my hair, no heavy moisturisers weighing it down.

I also flat iron extremely small sections at a time.

SMB is great! I am half relaxed, half natural(transitioning) and it does a great job on both textures. Be careful not to use too much or your hair will be stiff and greasy.

I use Beyond the Zone Turn up the heat and Mizani Thermastrength style serum.......and let me tell ya, I don't blow dry or flat-iron my hair UNLESS I use Mizani Thermastrength style serum......I have NO BREAKAGE when I blow dry my hair, and I use to have a lot before I started using it, and plus I don't blow dry my hair much..........I love mizani thermastrength style serum, it cost some money, but it's worth it. I paid 21.99 I think, but I believe it's worth the price.......HTH!

Thanks guys....I always have major breakage when I blow dry, no matter what I do...so maybe I will try the Mizani Thermastrength and I think I will also check out the Fantansia IC. Keep the good advice coming!

In my personal experience, when my hair stopped "swanging," it meant that the overall health of my hair was lacking, especially my moisture/ protein balance.

I use CHI Silk Infusion- some people say it's not for heat protection, but that is what I use it for.

The CHIs without a heat setting are set at between 370-400 degrees. When you "press" the iron together over your hair, it gets slightly hotter, hence the variable degrees. HTH

ETA: If you get breakage from blow-drying, you should try putting your products in, then air-drying, at least 50%. I HATE blow-drying with a passion. I own a $12 cheapie that I hardly use....maybe I should invest in a better one? IDK

I use Nexxus Heat Protexx, but I use it on wet hair as per the instructions. I think when you use it on dry hair it leaves it feeling stiff.

I blowdried and flatironed a couple weeks ago and got the best results in history!

I used Lacio Lacio as a leave-in and let it air dry most of the way. Then I applied the FHI Hot Sauce (about a quarter sized amount to length, with a bit more on my ends), let it sit about 5 minutes and blowdried USING MY DENMAN :lachen:. Soft, bouncy and beautiful. Then I flatironed with FHI Runway - didn't add more heat protectant - and got the best best best results EVER.

I use this too. Isn't it wonderful!!

Fantasia IC in the blue bottle sharts on the one in the pink. The only protectant that has EVER allowed my moisturizers to work after heat styling. It ROCKS!!!

Hey different strokes for different folks. I just know my hair likes the blue one better. If yours works great with the pink, good for u and HHG:sunshine:

:yep:I agree with Nayeli.....Same advice same product.:yep:

Thanks guys...this was so extremely helpful!! I was trying to not purchase any more products but I think a good heat protectant (for when I do decide to use heat) can be an exception to the rule!!

:lachen: I know. Thanks

I racked my brain on which one to get and I figured since the blue one was for color treated hair I would just get the regular one. I also use the Fantasia IC Olive Oil *green one* for shine.

Another Mizani Therma strength user chiming in. I use the smooth guard serum before blow drying and the shine extend spray for flat ironing. Swing and shine for days.

fantasia ic serum does nothing for my hair. in fact, i haven't found a serum that makes my hair look good at all. always looks so dull with it.

I loooove the green one too!!! Good stuff :drunk:
