I was just thinking about the responses in the other thread about "if you could go back in time would you relax"

I had no choice in the matter when my hair was relaxed at 9. I however continued doing it until I was 24. My hair was apl when first relaxed but I didn't know how to care for it so it broke off and I had SL hair all throughout my teen yrs and up to adulthood. In 2006 I started seeing growth and the health return but by then I decided to stop relaxing.

I'm enjoying my natural hair but who know....some yrs down the line I may relax again. Thanks to LHCF I know how to better take care of my hair.

So would you ever consider relaxing again?

Nope....being natural is too easy. Also, it suits my face, lifestyles so much better....:yep: Seriously, right now I feel like that I've been natural all of my life; it just comes so naturally...

Ive been thinking about it off and on for the last 8 months or so. I know some folks are tired of hearing me talk about it.

I really love curly hair. That is the reason I wanted to go natural in the first place. If I were to put any type of chemical in my hair to alter the texture I wouldnt want it straight. As much as everybody want to claim that relaxers are a strightening miracle it never truly straightened my hair. If I washed and let it air dry it was frizzy and looked like really bad kinky straight extensions. No I dont plan on relaxing again ,but hey I cant foresee the future.

I relaxed after being natural for two years.

I have good reasons as to why i did that as i have mentioned in previous threads no1 being the tangling of my hair type - i was ripping out my hair every time i touched it. I had 2 inches cut off after i relaxed due to bad ends whilst natural.

I personally found natural to be hard work and very time consuming - in achieving a look i was happy with. I do not look good with cornrows and many other natural styles. Also with short hair i couldn't simply pull it back into a ponytail.

Transitioning was a no-no with my curly/afro hair....rip city!

Being natural taught me about my hair type and what my hair needs now that it is relaxed. Also i was learning about caring for relaxed hair on LHCF whilst being natural so this time round i feel more confident about looking after it.

I have no regrets.

At this point NO. I am loving finding out what works/doesn't work with my natural hair. Unlike other people who say they think wearing twists and braidouts are juvenile for grown women... I beg to differ because I love those type of hairstyles. I also love the versatility of wearing one's hair straight or nappy. So for now being natural suits me fine. But who knows what the future holds...really:lachen:

I totally understand what you're saying! Congrats on now having the manageable hair that u want. :yep:

I'm always curious when people post not u per se but anyone in general that they had to go back to relaxing. It concerns me because I always think like what the hell is in store for me in the future? Like do I know what I bargained for? And will I be able to manage my natural hair?

I just wanted to know like did u exhaust all your possiblities like changing products, etc? Can u expand on that for me? Like did u do everything to avoid relaxing and what was that like/all about. Thanks!!

i never say never :look: but let's just say, i highly doubt i will. this is so much easier... my hair is healthier, stronger, and lower-maintenance. i do know that if i ever decide to go back to relaxing, i have a valuable info source here so my relaxed hair will still be healthier than it was back in the day. :yep:

how dare you... i am so disappointed in you Bublin... :nono:

not cuz you relaxed, but because you didn't post pics! :lachen:

Nah...I won't relax again.
I haven't been near a box of that stuff in a decade, why go back
If I ever decide to not be a loose natural again, the only thing I would ever go back to is locing my hair :yep:

I don't think I'd relax again.

It took the same work (detangle, airdry or blowdry, flat-iron) to get my hair straight with a relaxer that it does to get my hair straight as a natural...it just takes more time.

Besides... I  my :afro:

Like Libra, I never say never, but it's highly unlikely. Just like my natural texture better, and I disliked GREATLY relaxing my hair (going to the salon, etc.). If I relaxed again, I'd be back on the merry-go-round (hair not looking fly unless freshly done, the hours wasted at the shop) so no, highly unlikely.

When I first started on my natural journey I thought that I would be this way for life, but I truly doubt it.

Everytime I flat iron my hair (every 3 months) to do a length check I am so suprised at the damage to my ends and those terrible knots.

I don't use heat, I wear protective styles, co-wash, deep condition, drink plenty of water , and take multi vitamins and I still have to trim some of my progress every three months.

But I still love the way it feels,it's overall health and it's still longer than it's ever been.

I started looking for ways to take care of my hair so I could see results regardless of if I was natural or relaxed. And I don't feel that one is better than the other. I was thinking of some of the ladies here that started their journey the same time I did but the are relaxed. And because of knowing how to properly take care of their hair it's just as long if not longer than mine.

So yes it's likely I will soon.

I go back and forth with the idea quite a bit. But it's more likely that I'll go back to regular heat use than relaxing.

My hair is prone to single strand knotting. Not just the ends but up the shaft. I'm trying to wear my hair in twists more often to combat it, but as soon as I take them down, shed hair seems to help the rest of the hair knot up.

Never will I relax bone-straight again!! My hair fell out of my head! But I might texlax. The frizz and the knots are too much for me. I love the curly look, but can't stand the frizz. Texlax, if done properly, is the best of both worlds.

NEVER!:nono:

:lachen:
But that's the great thing about our hair, so many options...straight, texlaxed, texturized, nappy, and everything in between.

No more chemicals, scab hair, burns, non of that stuff for me. I look better as a natural, it suits my face and personality. I LOVE big hair!

Straight hair all looks the same to me. But that's because a majority of the world population wears their hair STRAIGHT or slightly wavy. So when I wear my big nappy hair or a nappy weave, I get lots of stares and compliments. I LOVE standing out in a crowd. When I was relaxed, the only way to stand out was to have the longest, bounciest, silky hair...and that takes a lot of work for me and my lifestyle. Now I can pin in a nappy weave, spray with some water, and have an instant hairstyle for about a week. Not a day goes by without a compliment from children and adults, white and black.

Granted being natural has PLENTY of setbacks. Tangles and knots are TERRIBLE! But I've found that keeping my hair in a nappy weave for a while really helps. With natural hair it's hard to retain length with loose styles. You live and learn.

I NEVER will go back to straight hair. I did want to experiment with a straight weave, but I put on a straight wig yesterday and I felt like I lost my flair. :nono: Straight isn't for me. But nappy isn't for everyone either. I see some ladies on this forum are so much more fierce with their blowouts and rollersets. It's all about variety. In the end, do you. Don't feel guilty for relaxing after the fact. I know some people who go back and forth between relaxed and natural because they like to change things up. Our hair can do that.

I will never relax again. :nono:

Natural hair is much easier to maintain, suits me physically, and doesn't cramp my lifestyle.

My hair was so thin when I was relaxed. Now it is full and dense.

Length retention is easy now. It was always an issue when I was relaxed.

I love having such a wide variety of styles to choose from. I can wear a huge afro one day but can also have the sleek straight look if I want. You can't get that with relaxed hair.

I'm natural for life!

Never. I'd shave my head (or go back to locs) before I got a relaxer. Considering I regretted relaxing my hair the minute the first one was washed out (my fine hair looks like thin hair when it's relaxed) - I'm very comfortable in saying, no, nevah! :lachen:

I just relaxed-texlaxed after 2 years. I like it because it lasts through my work outs 4 times a week. You can learn all you want on how to take care of it but its very hard and it sheds alot more.SCARY. I just like that i can show my length and have versatility. It all ended up back under a wig though.lol.so whats the point. Just wait til summer:drunk:

What do you mean by 'sheds alot more'? Does clumps of hair come out? :nono:

Possibly. I like my natural hair, but if I don't whip this moisture issue, then yes, I will relax.

I am thinking the same thing, right now.

Even though my hair is almost BSL, these tangles are a b!tch.

I really don't know how people deal with it.

Then again, I keep going back and forth.

I know that someone else putting a chemical in my hair is something I don't want to do either.

I don't want to start a big ole debate here but if you don't have control of your moisture issue as a natural head, how will it be any different after you relax?
For people who want to relax again, do it if you feel it will suit your lifestyle or you like the look or whatever. Even though you know you shouldn't lol...
To relax because of hair issues, (moisture, tangles, knots, managability) is only asking for additional problems IMHO.
Either way, I hope that you get your moisture issues under control because I was dealing with the same thing and I FINALLY got it figured out
