Naturals with Stretched vs Unstretched Hair Goals

Crackers Phinn

Either A Blessing Or A Lesson.
Hey ladies,

I was reading the LHCF Alphabet thread and noticed more than a few naturals with armpit/brastrap/waistlength unstretched hair goals. Now before anybody gets salty, there's nothing wrong with having a goal. If your hair grows out as opposed to down combined with shrinkage, how does the unstretched goal work?

I know that my hair is my own unique snowflake and doesn't reflect the natural spectrum, but the longer it gets the bigger it gets. How much weight would it take for unmanipulated outward bound hair to stretch down 6-8-10 inches?

My hair grows out and down, so as it grows it does get bigger unstretched, but it also is noticably longer. I guess it would depend on how your hair grows though. Also My unstretched goal has to do with how I want it to look when wearing twist or braid outs, since I rarely wear a wash and go.

I wonder what the other ladies think about this too.

I'm only 4 months passed my BC & still don't know if my hair is going to grow out or down so when I make goals - they are basically "flat iron" goals.

My hair grows out not down. No matter how many inches I gain it still appears shoulder length. My new unstretched goal is door way width.

Hilarious! lol...Yeah, mine also just seems to get bigger and bigger. Some area's of my hair that have a looser curl do hang a little longer though, but overall I get a bigger fro :)

I think some people are finding that the unstretched goal isn't going to work. :ohwell: My hair only really hangs down when it's wet. Once it starts to dry it goes up and out. Some of it does hang down though. Like the hair around the perimeter. I usually put product in it to weigh it down and then it'll hang.

My hair grew out when it was short, probably because of the way that i cut it. It's growing now that it has some weight to it.

My hair grows out out and down (so out two times for every movement downward) but parts of my hair eventually grow down. My unstretched goal length is only for the parts that move downward. It doesn't note how big my hair is going to be horizontally once I can get to my unstretched length--it will be way bigger horizontally than it will vertically.

I don't have much confidence in my unstretched goals :nono: I would seriously have to have a LOT of hair before it comes anywhere near BSL unstretched.

The front of my hair grows out then down but the back of my hair grows out. :perplexed

I plan on trying the yogurt/sour cream/conditioner mix to stretch out my curls for some "hang time". The only reason why I haven't tried that mix yet is because the curl pattern is looser in the front than in the back....the back will look nice but the front will look too straight.....unless

I just put the mix on the back half of my hair only.....hmmm :scratchch

I don't think my hair even knows the word "down" :perplexed When it get wet - instead of being weighed down by the water it fights back and then shrinks up even tighter -- by the time it drys it's impenetrable. So any goal I have would be stretched/straight -- just to keep myself from going crazy.

^^^^^^ME TOO!!!!

I saw two or three 4a/b natural shoulder lenght (who are waistlenght when stretched)
IMHO I don't think that their hair in natural state will reach brastrap the fro will grow bigger but will not reach BSL, for example Maestradiva is near tailbone but since brastrap/midback her fro wich was shoulderlenght didn't passed this lenght its just grow wider, til now:look:

My unstretched goal for MBL is for when I get in the shower and its loaded with conditioner- It may be unattainable but thats what drives me. For reveal purposes only will I roller set and flat Iron.

Yeah my hair grows out , then down- I think though that I might have reached- "Reaching out and touching the person next to me" width"

My hair grows down. The longer it gets, the heavier it is. I've had APL unstretched hair before so I'm trying to get back there with my hair in good health.

My hair is BSL and it shrink to where it doesn't even touch my shoulders. Those curls be poppin! LOL I call it snap back hair!

When my TWA was growing out, I noticed that it grew out. If I would have kept the hair and didn't do a 2nd BC, then it maybe would have did an out-out-down-out number.

Who knows, I'll see in about another year since I had to start over.

I would like to get Shoulder Length unstretched (think so1913) or even APL unstretched (Bubblingbrownshuga).

Right now I'm looking for the more attainable goal, shoulder length. Anything after that is up in the air, but I still have my hopes.

Awww you decided to BC again? Did it help?

I have tiny hair again, but in the end, I know it will be worth it. I couldn't hold onto those colored ends any longer for the sake of length. I wanted my hair back the way it was supposed to be. The colored parts weren't breaking, but they still weren't in the best of shape.

I decided to go ahead and do the BC again, instead of waiting months and months, getting used to the length, and not wanting to chop; therefore, keeping those ends which were doing nothing for me.

My hair is shorter than what it was when I did my first BC, but it'll be okay. Growth will not be a problem. I should be back into the swing of things by graduation in a few months :).

I look at my BC, Summer, and Fall pics to keep me motivated...knowing that if I did it once, I can certainly do it 10x better the 2nd time around.

You definitely will attain what you had and more :yep:

In two days I will be 6 months natural  My unstretched hair goal is APL but I'm not crazy  That is going to take forever without some heat, a rollerset or product. If I had a looser curl, MAYBE (big maybe) but right now I'm just happy that my hair is healthy.

My hair is in layers, the shortest being chin length (was ear length in the summer so some progess was made :) ) and the longest being APL (stretched). When it shrinks, it appears SL. Whatever, I love big hair so I'm good :yep: My hair is now longer and healthier than it was when I came to LHCF as a relaxed head and I'm sooo happy. Now I need to up my styling and learn how to braid

Yeah, I want APL hair unstretched, but shrinkage is really something. Anyway, I think if I had that much hair it may mostly be in protective styles.
