Spinoff: Why do you hide your face?

or provide no pictures, what is your motivation in hiding?

I don't provide pictures because I don't have the resources to do it the way I want. Not trying to hide or anything. Believe me I would loooove for my LHCF sistas to see my struggles and triumphs, but I have to get a printer first (to print regular things) before I focus on taking and posting pics. The printer somehow got "lost" in my trek across this great nation :)

A n y w a y s......once I start posting pics, I probably will hide my face. IMO the internet is just as public as the sidewalk outside. Anyone, anyone can sign up here at LHCF and become a member. Anyone can browse or lurk without even being a member. That's an element that I have no control over, which means I can never be 100% what someone decides to do with my image. That's one risk I'm not willing to take. If they want to take pics of my hair and do whatever with it, fine, but not my face.

I do provide a picture or in this case 2 pictures- but the internet is a very scary place and there are people who are not well and use boards to identify a person to scam or molest or stalk or whatever- besides you dont need to see my face- its my hair you want to see:grin:

I have my face out there sometimes, but for my frizzed up hairball messy lookin' snoopdogg ponytails deepconditioner dripping backfat showin pics... I'll crop my face out :yep:

I haven't shown my face because I know for a fact that there's somebody I know IRL on this board and I believe there are some people I know IRL lurking. I'd like to be able to indulge my hair mania without fear of being shamed

Just keeping it real, if I really knew and cared for you IRL, I would recognize you from the front, side, or possibly the back. Sometimes people act like you can take a ssn or some classified information from a pic. I really don't think that most people care that much! I think there's a small amount of trolls..........:look:

I feel you...and if I were really, really worried about such things I would never post on a public forum period...any information can be found if a person wants to go through the effort to find it.

As far as being able to recognize a person from a pic...I dunno. My own husband couldn't tell my old avatar from that of another member (..but he is a man, so bad example...lol)

I am a very private person. Posting my face is not my style, at all. The avatar pic is a LOT for me.Everyone I know would be thinking I was crazy for posting my avatar pic. It goes against my better judgment/common sense knowing the realities of the internet. I won't allow myself to have a false sense of security, because it seems to be "cool"around here. I believe in being proactive, taking all measures to insure that such undesired possibilities don't occur vs. going against my "instincts" and having to deal with the consequences later. Like someone above said, this is a hair site. All that needs to be seen if anything is my hair.

ppl have seen my face and they've seen my hair, but NEVER at the same time...lol!

so i wanna keep this sham of a charade going.

I can hardly see or make out your hair so I think you will be straight with keeping
trolls away.

I don't view it as necessary since our main focus is hair. Also, I have a lot of hair photos and I wouldn't want to chance my photos floating around and what not.

I have privately swapped photos with one LHCF buddy because we're really cool with each other and reliable (as far as it's possible to appear via the net/phone).

Dang, ya'll really got me scared now. My roomie's bf pointed out to me a couple of weeks ago that if someone wanted to stalk me they really could especially since I pretty said what university I went to, had my name, picture, favorite activities (gym) listed on Sparkpeople.com. Then he threaten to post a link to a thread I started about wanting to gain a booty while losing weight on sparkpeople on Facebook. I realized that although the people on sparkpeople didn't know who I was, my friends on facebook would, and it never dawn upon me that this really was free and open info to the public. I still viewed it as anonymous because I knew no one on SP actually knew me. I guess I was just completely desensitized to the whole internet thing BECAUSE of facebook. I got used to posting all kinda albums, and I didn't care who saw it because ONLY my personal friends could see. This is gonna be so hard for me to change my habits because I'm a bit of a narcissist, I LOVE taking pics of myself and I LOVE having people (sane people) look at them. :lachen:

And I have NO photoshop skills so all that editing ya'll do to hide your faces, is lost on me. I guess I'll just have to set up a pw.

I personally don't care whether my face is out there or not. I hardly ever use my real name, so if someone were to steal my pic it would be a hard case for them to prove it was really me.

I don't want friends and family to know exactly how hair crazy I am. They know a little, but not the full extent. So I guess I'm not hiding my face from strangers (hundreds of people see it everyday). I'm keeping a secret from my family.

I'm also a very private person. It took me years to bring myself to make a myspace page and even now I'm very restrictive when it comes to that. I post few pics online except for my hair pics.

I value my privacy, therefore, I will never post a picture of my face. Shucks, it took me months to post a picture of the back of my head, but that's as far as I will go on the "very public" Internet.

ETA: In fact, I'm thinking of "watermarking" any subsequent pictures that I post...just a thought.

I dont hide my face and I dont mind that anyone does though I do get curious about some posters. I stand by everything I type and all my pics so if someone was to confront me IRL I'd be like, "yep, that's me!"
Now as for the stalking aspect, that's freaky and creepy. It would surely change my picture sharing but I'm no one special so the weirdo would have to be pretty desperate. As for using my pic like they did that Asian dude on the stripper body.....I'd ask the creater what program they had used to do it because its pretty darn funny!

I don't hide my face in my album but i can understand peoples concerns. The internet can be a scary place, especially when it's so easy to steal peoples pics and do whatever with them. I have a cousin who steals peoples pics off myspace and creates all sorts of fake profiles and just reeks havick all around. She gets kicks out of it!? So i can empathize. :ohwell:

I cant be bothered hiding really, if someone wanted to take my pic and draw stuff on it then thats their immaturity.

On the other hand what is funny is when I cruise Black guys forums quite a few get caught faking pictures of their "shorty" by pulling of myspace. Anyone who steals photos has a screw loose:perplexed

lol, that is truly quite sad. I know there are always women complaining of another woman stealing their pics but a dude pretending some random female is his gf is a mess.
