Hits & Misses: December 2016

Hit:
Two strand twists. What took me so long to try them? I can style them in a bun, wear them loosely hanging or leave a few hanging as a bang when wearing a SLAP/beanie. Perfect.

Miss:
My Honey Child cheating me on product. A few items were not properly filled to the top.

Miss Turned Hit:

MHC provided a prompt, professional response and resolved my concerns.

Hit : Honey Baby Naturals Knot My Honey Instant Detangler

Lord, Holy grail! The only product thus far to detangle, moisturize, and define my son's hair. Omg! We've gotten slip before, but not slip and moisture that lasts like this. I finally found his 1st staple product. I'll try the rest of the like from Curlmart now.
For my type 4 hair, it does the same, except no definition. I don't care, the moisture is insane. Adding some to my braid spray.

Miss: The scent of this product is so strong! If I can cut it in half, that'd be great!

@JerriBlank
What's it smell like?

It's a sweet honey smell, just super strong. It lingers. It's so moisturizing though, my fingers are slippy after I apply it. :yep:
This is amazing! I've gotten slip with Knot Sauce, but not this level of slip combined with lasting moisture. I am so impressed! I was looking at these during the Curlmart sale and changed my mind on getting too many new items. Smh!!! I'm so glad they sent me this bit sample. This is so concentrated! I am in love!

Redken antisnap LI

Staple hits:

Aphogee 2min I use this now almost exclusively as a pre-poo, overnight on dry hair
Are you relaxed or natural? How do you use the Redken Antisnap? I used to use it on my relaxed hair as a heat protectant right before blowdrying, but now that I'm natural, I'm not sure how to use it anymore.

Also, so when you leave the Aphogee 2 minute on overnight, you don't wake up with super dry, hard hair? I dont wanna overdose on protein.

@Smiley79, Komaza protein strengthener is HG status for me! I will never have less than 5 bottles at all times. Also I too retain moisture better with LCO and adding a butter takes it to a whole other level so I LCOB now.
Why can't I get that thing to work for me?! I tried it because of all the praises being sung on here but it just leaves my hair with a waxy, coating feeling. Maybe I had a bad bottle and should order again? Cuz Aphogee 2-step is HG status for me when I need protein but goodness, it's messy and it stinks!

MEGA HIT:

Design Essentials Almond and Avocado Moisturizing Detangling Shampoo:

This product has one of the longest names I've ever seen, but this stuff here is LIFE IN A BOTTLE! I got this from CVS on clearance for like 3 bucks. The ingredients looked good and its claims of cutting detangling time down by 30 minutes had me like :yep:. Now my hair isn't super tangly, but I'm lazy so cutting time is always a plus.
Ladies, as soon as it touched my hair it was like butter silk drizzling down my strands causing knots to run in fear and unicorn fairies to cry tears of soapy goodness all over my scalp . My hair wasn't the slightest bit stripped, my scalp was super clean and my curls were poppin' all over the place. Needless to say I will be hitting up CVS again tomorrow to politely collect the other 2 bottles on the shelf :yep:.
THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW!! My hair gets super tangled when I wash it. It doesn't seem to handle shampoo and hard water well, both just strip my hair. And ever since Cream of Nature decided to get rid of my HG shampoo in the green bottle (I know it's been nearly 10 years, but I'm STILL salty!!), I haven't found a shampoo that works for me. Until I went and got my hair professionally done this summer.

The stylist used Design Essentials and there was not a tangle in sight. She worked through my hair with such ease and gentleness, I almost fell asleep. I even warned her beforehand that my hair is very tangly but she was like, "No it's not." I saw she used Design Essentials shampoo so I was planning on emailing her after the holidays to ask her about her specific product. I'm just worried she might not tell me, so thank you! Going to find this TOMORROW!

Very Possible Hit:
Jakeala Flaxseed Leave In
I may have used a bit much, but it's a spray on watery consistency. Today, my hair was very soft and feels very moisturized. It's not like when it's soft with the SM LP leave in, but incould see myself alternating between both. It feels more hydrated versus just soft
What is a SM LP leave-in? Can you write it out? I'm not familiar with the acronym, lol!

I'm just gonna list all of my 2016 Hits because honestly, these products have been working for me all year.

Hits
  • Qhemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream
  • ApHogee 2-Step Treatment - super messy and stinky but the only protein treatment that restores my hair to like new! I always tell myself I'm going to do it once a month but then half a year ends up passing by because of how much messy this product is.
  • The homemade pomegranate detangler the lady at the African shop makes, lol!
HUGE FREAKING MISS THIS YEAR!
  • Sally's reformulating their Hair Chemist Macadamia Hair Mask to a new formulation that doesn't do ish for my hair! That was my HG deep conditioner!! Bastids!

@Sally, that's weird I've never had that issue or heard that complaint before. I always clarify before I use it and while it doesn't get hard like Aphogee it's never waxy feeling and my hair definitely feels stronger. Maybe try clarifying, also I saw you have hard water I would suggest a chelating shampoo. My go to is Redken Cleansing Cream as I also have hard water.

Girl sorry to be following you thru the threads, lol. How was this product. It's been on my wishlist for a while, and the whiskey conditioner, but the price tag keeps holding me back.
@Smiley79
I got it on a swap. It's nice. A little goes a long, long way.

I can see the scent getting on my nerves though. I like Liquid Gold's Java Butter (Seasonal) more. Bekura smells like a Latte/Honey mix. It smells 'different'.

But I'm really glad I got to try it, now I know I won't be purchasing it. And it's $18 for 4oz's.

The consistency is also somewhat Honey-like (kinda gooey) more like a Grease/Pomade whereas LG's is a nice whipped butter.

If you ever see the Vanilla Whiskey Repairative Hair Soak on Sale for a decent price, you should get it.

I know exactly what you mean - it leaves the hair feeling coated and rubbery after rinsing. I was able to address this issue is by shampooing after rinsing with a gentle moisturizing shampoo (I use CON Argan Oil). Before, the Komaza website advised using the product like the hardcore Aphogee Treatment, in that you let it process uncovered under a dryer until the hair fully dries. This always landed my hair in rubber coating city. So, one day I decided to shampoo it to see if that would make a difference and it did. When I rinsed the shampoo, my hair was soft, silky and slightly strengthened. However, now I just process it under a cap for an hour, which garners the same results.

Still, if the Aphogee is working for you, I would advise keeping it in your routine and nixing the Komaza because it's no equivalent as far as its strengthening properties. I'm protein sensitive and the Komaza acts like a light protein treatment on my hair. If I need a serious protein kick, I look elsewhere for a remedy because Komaza won't fit the bill.
