Curlformers

For those naturals who are using curlformers just to stretch their hair and not necessarily to wear as a style, do you think the Extra Long Barrel Curls would be best for that?

I have and use the extra wide/ long curlformers. They work well for stretching. They just take longer to dry. Also the application process goes faster since I can put more hair into one curlformer.

I did a Curlformer set with the extra wide today to stretch my hair. Overall, I was disappointed with the whole experience for two reasons. One, I used Lottabody today for my set for the first time, and I feel like it may have been a waste of money. My hair looked the same as when I just do Oyin Hair Dew. I did a 3:1 ratio this time, so I'm going to try a 2:1 ratio next time.

Second, I've tried all three Curlformer sizes and I think I like wide the best. The extra wide is better for stretching, but it was harder for me to put in. The mouth kept bending, which made it hard to pull the hook through. It also made it hard for me to get close to the root. Also, I usually wear hair curly when I first do the curlformer set, and then use the stretched out hair for other styles. I think my hair is too short to use these for a curly style, so I looked funny.

I don't have pictures because I feel asleep on my hair on the couch and it now looks a mess. I'll probably use these again when I just want a stretched style, so I can work on my technique with these. I'll try to take a picture then.

I prefer these to stretch my hair. I get a nice wave from them and don't have to use my satin ponytail to stretch my hair even more. Only issue for me is I only have 48 and need to add other sizes to do my whole head.

That's my concern too. I really just want an alternative to blowdrying my hair. If I want a style I'll use the other ones. Geez why are these so expensive??

So, I finished my set. One major complaint with the knockoffs from China....the rubber "mouth" isn't nearly as thick as the real Curlformers. I know I wasted more time struggling to get the fake ones open. Once I got the learning curve down with the real deal - I was able to do the back of my head rather quickly.

But then I ran out of those and switched to the knockoffs. I noticed rather quickly that they were the same material EXCEPT for the part that needs to hold open to pull the rod out. Most were difficult to squeeze open and would just fold in half instead of opening. If your fingers slip while pulling them thru - your hair twists and gets tangled inside of the former.

I hope I got a "bad" batch. But that's my cautionary tale about buying the ones from ebay.

mzteaze - What size were you using when you had this problem. I never noticed a difference between my wide knockoffs vs my wide Curlformers (the pink and orange). However, this weekend, I used my extra wide knockoffs (the fuschia and yellow) and I had a hard time because the rubber part kept bending. I wonder if I should try the real ones.

I have the fuchsia and yellow ones as well. It took forever to get those things on. I am waiting to purchase the real ones.

Hey, finally took the plunge and just placed my order for knock offs! I ordered the 21in long and wide. my hair actually 23 inches but the longer length came from China & take way too long to come so when my 21s come i will use them a few times for my prom coming up then I might sell them to buy the 29inch.

Arlana i plan to purchase 1 pack extra wide before april, because i purchased 48 21in.s wide for less than the price of 8 extra wides from your vender. Still intested, but my bank account isn't lol

Edit: my only concern is quality. they should be here in about 5 days so I will let y'all know how that goes. if it goes well I will probably mention the vendor

Ah... good old curlformers. I still have my set though I can't use them anymore. I'm a little hair-orexic so I didn't really grasp how much my hair had grown until I decided to bring out my curl formers and they were too short to remotely curl my strands.

I've been too cheap to buy more. Shucks... that first set of short ones cost a lot of money.

Thanks. I think I may buy the real ones and see if I notice a difference. It's so sad because my wide knockoffs are so great. I almost wonder if I just got the extra wides from a bad vendor (the vendor I bought my wides from didn't sell extra wides)

Hey y'all!
So i got my cfs via dhl today! After i received them i immediately went out to my nearest sally's and bought the original stick. I do like the original stick more than the fake bc of the rubber grip.

I haven't done a full set yet, i put 2 in at my nape in my kinkier area. I used the cream of nature argan oil wrap lotion and i little bit of green ecostyler gel. These are my results. I'm impressed.
Now thinks i learned:
*hair must be THOROUGHLY detangled (wide tooth comb then smaller tooth comb)
*only add setting product until after you've ensured the hair is tangle free
*smaller sections are the best bet.

There was definitely a learning process for me. Took me 30 min to put 3 in (only 2 are pictured). I hope to get up to 48 (that's how many i have) in less than 1.5 hrs bc im not trying to spend the rest of my life in my bathroom. They dried in about 2-3 hrs

I havent read the whole thread but i got a knockoff set on ebay a few years ago for much cheaper, like 40% less, than sally's. I still use them regularly.

Those look great! You will definitely get faster with practice. It used to take me hours. Now, it takes me a max of an hour to get them in. Sometimes, I can do 45 mins

So i found some time in my life to finally...edit: accidental click off, im on my phone!

... to finally set my hair. It took forever literally I started at 5 and did not end until 3 o'clock in the morning. part of the reason it took so long was because I had not detangled my hair completely prior so I definitely do recommend and stressed that your hair is detangled prior to installing. this time around I didn't use the eco styler gel all I used was the motions CPR triple action leave in conditioner and the cream of nature argan oil style mousse. I'm pretty proud of myself right now. it was raining compliments today!

Edit: one more thing on certain sections I use Tresemme flawless curls conditioner because its good at detangling my hair
