lmbo i love this thread lol i've def said some of these things or thought them, thankfully now I'm pretty good with my regimen and i'm not going to fix what's not broken

Saludable84 did you really use shea butter as a detangler??? oh noooo!!!! :lachen::shocked: that stuff is solid and dense! lol

I was using Shea butter based DC's and its always an epic fail! I've even spoken to naturals who hate Shea butter in their hair so I'm totally not alone. That stuff sets me back Everytime.

As much as I hate to say it....trying to "embrace my natural curls" causes me setbacks.

When I started my HHJ, I gave up ALLLLLLLL forms of heat. 6 months later, I couldn't get a comb through the last 4 inches of my hair from all of the SSKs/splits. Never again.

I will never feel guilty for loving my Maxiglide again. Regular heat & DC'ing, combined with bunning got me from apl to just above wl in less than a year.

"This protein leave-in/conditioner is so good hardly any of my hair fell out. I'm going to use it every week" Next thing you know you have protein overload. This happened to me when I was using Aphogee's Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer.

"I was late for a party/event/date and I was rushing to do my hair"
I can't tell you how many times I've ripped through my natural hair because I was late for something"

"My hair is acting so weird......maybe its going through a funk. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing"
I have this problem, I'm too lazy to do research to find new products, so I continue to use the same products hoping my hair will turn around, but it just keeps getting worse.

"I just got braids, but they are too tight. I have a throbbing headache and bumps popping on my scalp. I paid $$$ for this style in hopes of keeping them in a month, so I won't waste my money by taking them out now."

"It's OK to keep these braids for longer than intended as long as I wash them once a week".

[....]

Stories of my life.

[...]

I'm getting braids so I can leave them in for______months and not have to do my hair.

[...].

You guys are scaring me . I am planning on leaving my braids in for 5-7 weeks. I spritz and oil them every other day and wash 1x a week. I hope I don't have problems when I take them out.

Having been on LCHF for a few years, I have noticed certain phrases before a setback. It would be rude to tell the person that they are preparing for a setback so I thought we could put the phrases in here, and maybe people will check themselves.

1. People decide to relax in order to show length when they couldn't maintain relaxed hair in the past.

-It is my opinion that relaxing the hair should be done because it is the best styling choice for the person, not just to show length grown while natural. Most of these individuals are transitioning now without the length.

-If you weren't able to attain the length you wanted with a relaxer in the past, what makes you think you can retain with one now? Growth can take years, but setbacks take seconds

ETA: Please add the phrases you always hear before a setback.
2. People decide to abandon products that work for them in order to jump on bandwagons, use one product line, or because they reached their goal

-It takes the same thing to keep it as it took to get it. It is a bad idea to take your hair for granted.

@ the bolded

Some people do figure it out after they get an understanding and a foundation of healthy hair practices. For example, TheHealthyHairShow on Youtube is a perfect example of someone who transitioned to natural and then went back to relaxed once she understood how to take care of her hair. And her hair is breathtaking.

And my last few.....

"I found a method to make my curls pop in my 4c hair. It involves a tub of gel and a diffuser...."

"I 'bump' my ends daily."

^ worst idea...I ended up wondering why my ends were at my Shoulder when a week before they were at my armpit. :(

DarkJoy

Bent. Not Broken.
A texlax is not a full relaxer. Its the best of both worlds!:nono:

I have to remind myself of this every month when I am tempted of all the past texlaxes I had that ended in loss of hair and scalp damage.

I don't feel like re-_____ing my hair. Sleepy... It'll be fine.
I can't find my satin scarf or pillowcase... I'll look tomorrow.

These are mine too!

"Can't find any of my 4 scarves/caps/wraps and I'm too sleepy, ehh I'll be fine"= short broken edges to show for it.

"It's late so I'll just flat iron instead of rollersetting"=dry dry hair

"I hate doing Aphogee treatments"=moisture overload

"I'm being lazy even though I have the whole day to myself, so I won'd DC"=more dry hair

"protective styles look ugly, I'll enjoy my loose hair in this -20/-30 Canadian weather, rubbing against my coat and cotton scarf and wool hat"=no need to tell the results, eh?

That's why right now I'm also reading the protective styles for relaxed hair thread.

"I am going to go to the salon for a trim and blowout"

This is what I said before I went to a salon, and got heat damaged hair, 4 inches in the back now cut off, and now I have a uneven nape area which I have to camouflage...

I'm going to the salon to get a trim.

Just wanted to add

I'm going to the salon to an unknown hairdresser that was not recommended to me and if she gives me an attitude and/or turns me around so I can't see the mirror that's ok because I'm going to get a trim.

I cracked up when I read this. These are the most famous last words posted on LHCF before a setback. :lachen:

:lachen: I cracked up when I read that too! Only because yesterday I was looking up curly hair salons in the area that specialize in deva cuts. Y'all just don't know, my hair is soooooo uneven now, even when curly. *sigh*

Well I will tell you Priss Pot I don't trust these folks out here. I flat ironed my hair, went into this place called Hair Shapers on Mission St in SF, and got a 1/2" trim all around, no muss no fuss. $20. That's all I'm saying.

That dominican salon was so great, I"m gonna go every week
She's just trimming off half an inch
I don't know her but all salons are the same.
I don't have to wrap it every night
My hair is breaking but let me stretch my relaxer a few more weeks.

HoneyA

Goal:Hip length stretched
*Well this pill is working for everyone else in this thread, I'll buy two bottles of it* - 4 weeks later my hair is falling out by the handfuls when I touch it; I'm having melt downs in the shower on wash day because I am literally washing my hair down the drain. Ended up having to dump both bottles and nurse my hair back to health. I just stick to Hair Skin and Nails now.

*Biotin will give me faster growth* - yep, along with fast appearing acne ... again just sticking to HSN now

*I'll get a 1/2 inch trim * - yet 3 inches have disappeared -_-

*I don't need my satin scarf every night * - no, I really do.

No one has posted any proof that their hair grew faster, but I'm going to buy...insert smelly horse products, coochie cream, etc or heading to an indian store where I can't read any labels or instructions.

Hanging my head in shame :/

When I first joined the forum I bought into the whole Coochie cream thing :lachen: I went to CVS and bought like 5 Monistat 7 creams LOL I'm sure the cashier was like ewww she nasty  My hair didn't grow but I'm sure I helped stimulate the economy with all the money I gave away.

I also bought Mega Tek, which actually did work but it gave me headaches.

Luckily I did not get a set back... unless of course you're referring to my money LOL

@ the bolded!!! No one ever has pics! "this made my hair grow 3 inches in 3 months" plausible, do you have pics? "no i dont have pics":wallbash:.
Another scenario that irks me-
Well are you still using the product "no i stopped using it to try something else" wtf, try what else!? what more do you need?? You could possibly get 12 inches in 12 months but you stopped to try something else??

Sigh.. i get frustrated reading some threads....

Even though my hair is an inch away from bra strap, I would love to try some microbraids. I've never had them before- true story

I know the bottle says 5 minutes, I want "intense" moisture so I will deep condition for 1 hour.

I'm an inch away from bra strap after my last relaxer. My stylist suggest I go natural, I have a "good" texture for it, ok. Let's big chop, do the damn thang....after 3 years I can't maintain a natural, no growth. Getting a relaxer in 3 weeks.

DAMN This is my 2nd time trying to self relax in a week and my HAIR IS NOT
STRAIGHT ENOUGH! I think I'll do a corrective relaxer next week... at the salon

I spent all this time straightening my heat resistant natural hair and it is still not straight let me run the flat iron over it 5 more times!

NAW SON, I don't need to spend $12 for a deep conditioner Imma buy this Suave $2 Shea butter conditioner and call it a day!

I have been a bystander witnessing a setback about to happen. It boggles my mind. You try to stop them.

The ladies try and explain why they shouldn't do xyz. Then after all the suggestions the OP comes back and says "I just did the opposite of everything every single lady said and I dyed then bleached my hair too." Then a few days later they are blaming everything except themselves.

At that point I think their membership should be revoked.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y

Neat thread! My words/thoughts caused me pure karma. When my hair gets longer this time, I'm going to be more humble. :giggle:

"I'll never have a setback."

"Only certain people get setbacks."

"My hair is absolutely invincible, I can get away with not combing it for weeks and I won't end up with a setback."
