Ladies in your 30s and 40s, does your long hair make you look younger?

Hey Ladies in the Grown and Sexy Club:gorgeous:,

I was wondering if your long hair makes you look longer. I will be 30 this year and I often contemplate on continue growing it longer(around APL) or getting it cut short(a la bob or pixie cut). So far I am leaning toward growing it out. So my question is for the women who are 30 and 40 years old, can you honestly say that your longer hair makes you look younger yet age appropriate? Also what current length is your hair?

Thank you for your responses:grin:

I'm 37 and I have waist length hair. I don't think my hair with all this gray makes me look younger. But seeing a woman my age with hair this big and long is a sight to see:look:. I don't think my hair ages me at all. I think I look my age. I tell my husband, I'll be rocking waist length all gray hair after while and I know that'll be something.

I'm 35 and just cut my hair from MBL to a little above SL. I don't think it made me look any younger or older. I just cut it because I felt that I look better with shorter hair and there were some styles I liked that could only be achieved with shorter hair.

To be honest, I've often had that thought. I know how I look already with shorter hair; I've had the Halle cut, fade, pixie, shoulder length bob, asymmetrical bob, bob with china bangs, shoulder length hair all one length….everything except long hair (unless via weave). Point is there is no mystery there (regarding short hair) and to go a step further, I tend to prefer shorter hair on me. I like hair that frames my face. With that said, I AM growing my hair out just cause…uhmmm..well I can and I like long hair. I figure if I want shorter hair…I’ll just install a weave…wear a wig or a halfie. I have options to go anyway I want.

Long answer short, I’m in my 30’s (natural hair around APL-ish) and I personally don’t think I look any older/younger depending on the length of my hair. That could be because I sincerely feel that I don’t look my age regardless of hair; that for me, plays a big part. What I will say; however, is that I DO believe that “juvenile” or “matronly” styles, are often the culprit behind feeling that hair at a certain length isn’t appropriate for your specific age.

I was all over the place, but I hope I kinda answered and it made some sense.

ETA:: Attached is a pic of how I prefer to wear my hair when not wearing in its natural state. Excuse the crazy look, it was taken at work and I was looking at the computer...but it is all I have.:look:

I don't think my hair being longer makes me look younger or older. I plan on growing it WL if possible and I'm interested in seeing if this will make a difference.

I'm 44 and currenlty 1/2 inch shy of BSL. I have gray mixed in and when I wear it down I just wear it straight and I don't think it looks bad or ages me in any certain way. The old tradition in the past was that some women traditionally would cut there hair short after they reach a certain age. I think this trend is starting to change and people just do what they feel confortable with. I imagine when I can no longer take care of my hair, I may possibly cut it off.

^^mind you, I'm only grazing AP when straightened, but I don't think it makes me look younger or older. However, sometimes I may wear a hairstyle (when shorter i.e. curly or longer i.e. straight) that I think makes me look more youthful or mature.

I think longer hair definitely makes me look and feel more feminine, sexy even. Perhaps these feelings in turn contribute to feeling/looking youthful?

38 years old checking, I'm chubby I don't look my age, I look younger anyways long or short hair.I'm growing to WL, as natural we have the advantage to have it both: long straitghten, short or around SL natural :yep:

I think this is what it is.:yep:

When I wear my hair down Dh and several people mention I act like a different person. I feel super sexy when my hair is down and big. And there is nothing like long hair and sex.:lick:

I agree. I know I look mature with my witch bun (as my coworker calls it) and I may act more mature when my hair is in a bun.

:yep:

I've had my hair cut as short as Toni Braxton's (when she first came out), SL, APL, asymmetrical cuts, etc, but never felt as sexy or young as I do now. With longer hair, I definitely feel more feminine.

I plan to keep on growing with mini-trims to get fuller ends at WSL ( or beyond if I can make it). My paternal grandmother had a beautiful WSL silver ponytail that I used to ogle when she played the organ at church. Her long hair definitely didn't age her.

i agree with the other 30 somethings. i'm 38 and i don't think my almost waist length hair makes me LOOK younger. i feel younger tho. i don't plan to be one of those women who cut their hair just because they're "of a certain age." i look younger when its straight vs curly or in twists though.

My sentiments exactly! Your hair is so cute on you by the way!:yep:

What is WSL hair? Is that the same as WL (waist length)?

I see WSL all the time and never knew what those initials stand for.

I'm 35 and I don't think my hair makes me look younger or older. I think I look my age. My hair is APL and MBL will be the longest I will go. I like hair and I need length for this round face of mine. Short hair would make my face look like a round brown ball. I can't maximize my sexy with a round brown ball face. :)

The longer length for me counteracts my thin/fine hair, which in turn makes for a more youthful look.

I'm in my 40s and I think longer hair makes me look sexier, but not really "younger". ITA with a previous poster - either your face looks young or it doesn't. I think a slender figure (not crackhead skinny) makes a woman look much younger than any amount of hair.

I'm 32 and I get carded as well! I still don't feel like I've reached my peak...I don't think that my hair being longer or shorter makes me look younger or older- but as the other ladies said, I do feel super sexy the longer that my hair gets!!!

I think short hair makes me look younger .. and Ive been told so too (Im 35). I also know that putting on weight makes me look older too.

when I was in grad school 10 years ago i wud get harrassed by truancy officers ( didnt even know they existsed in real life)

Well OP at 30 I really don't think your hair will make you look that much younger vs older. You probably look like you're in you 20s or less anyway.

I will say that ITA with DLewis and Miss Masala. Longer hair makes me feel super feminine and sexy as *ell. This feeling hit as I approached BSL and now that I'm MBL wow! All that feminine sexual energy certainly makes you feel more energetic. For me the longer hair looks more youthful (38).
For me, I had to get past APL to tap into that energy.

ETA I've had very short (halle) styles and in between

The down side is protective styling
