With all due respect to all the ladies here, I must say that some of you should be conscious of the fact that corporations are starting to make millions of dollars off of the "go natural" thing among black females with our hair, and not caring about your health but your dollars- making money off of our ignorance and need to have APL, MBL, WL, HL...

I called a company who sells Diatomaceous Earth and he couldnt tell me if they had a minute portion of ARSENIC or if it was SAFE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN. Forgetting that I read stories of women getting 1" of growth a week, I remembered the story on BHM of a lady blacking out from it, and I hung up without ordering!!

And here's to Chlorella

If your hair doesnt look like mine, you should wake up everyday smiling, grateful for what you do have and focusing on something benefitting our community. Not being negative. Many of you are older than me, and all you care about is your hair. While our men are locked in prisons by the hundreds of thousands, children and teens having no culture, respect for life, respect for self, etc. All we care about is hair. Where are the Assata Shakur's and Frances Cress Welshing's of 2011? We should be ashamed. All we know is a growth aide and a new purse. :nono:

Peace....

NOT ALL OF US ARE AS IGNORANT AND SELF-ABSORBED AS YOU ASSUME. THOSE WHO ARE DESPERATE AND ARE CONSTANTLY JUMPING ON BAND-WAGONS SHOW THOSE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES THAT BLACK FOLKS WILL BELIEVE ANYTHING ABOUT HAIR GROWTH IF YOU PUT A BLACK FACE BEHIND IT AND CALL IT "NATURAL," OR "GOOD FOR THE BODY."

True, there are many on here, but this should not be a blanket statement that most LHCF'ers are ignorant, only worried about hair care, looks, and fashion, or that they don't investigate these products and supplements before using. Speak only about those who you have witnessed to be so, as I myself AS A BLACK WOMAN am exempt from that group of women. I care more about raising my daughter properly, educating myself on the many things in the world, and living a life worthy of approval from my God. 'Tis all :look:

ETA: AND I check out supplements and products ON MY OWN time, doing extensive research before putting things on and in my body. After all, it is the Temple of God...so indeed people should be a lot more careful if they care anything about living a healthy life, not just having long, fluffy hair.:nono:

Hey now, I have been one to go against extremes and excess and dangers taken on here-both to health-and hair and got torn a new one for it more than I can count. Not all of us are just about hair-and not only that-but I got a bigger story than this-since I lost half my hair due to illness at one point

I know some of us play around and what not-spend a lot of time on here talking about hair etc-but we can never know the whole story of what really makes up a whole person

far as that post. I am proud of her for speaking up and glad you posted this. Truly. You have no clue how many PM''s I have gotten in the past over one thing or another I spoke up about-and had to ask them to speak up openly to help/save others. And sadly some did not. I wholeheartedly agree with your msg. in this post and although I was not aware of any dangers with Chlorrella , I have been aware of other serious dangers that were taken and overlooked around here. It's truly just not cool. whatsoever

I do agree the original post did have an 'assuming' tone to it

Wow.
Well, while I agree...there are more important things than haircare......
and I'm sure at least the majority of us realize that...
we are all on a long hair care forum.
Including you. :look:

But...i'm sure there are some who might have needed that reality check. So thanks, love. :)

Yes companies are catching up. More deception. But they do this to all races. It's just more detrimental to the black race since we are still trying to rise.

We're in a recession and companies are writing 40 page manuals for appearance. Humans in general are a bit crazy. The lady was taking Chlorella to improve her internal health which improves hair growth. Unfortunately the company probably sold her a bad product. That could happen to anyone, even if someone wasn't taking it for hair.

I mean, I understand what you're trying to say but why can't we focus on our hair and physical appearance WHILE focusing on more important issues at the same time? Most of the women I've interacted with on the board are not all about hair, myself included. It is possible to multi-task. On the otherhand, I think this message needs to be preached to the young people who don't care about anything other than clubbing and gettin money. Attacking the women on the forum when you really don't know what we're all about is probably not the way to go.

I also believe you should wake up everyday smiling as well, regardless of what your hair looks like.

Peace,

This is a good point.I have mixed feelings about this barrage of products for natural hair.

While it is nice that a wide variety of products are available, I feel like a certain element is just trying to retain their "portion" of the Black dollar, or just come up, especially some of these "artisan" products that aren't taking the time to do the knowledge and properly formulate and preserve their products, and I am skeptical.

Of course it is good business and all that, but I have to keep in mind that a lot of these companies would like to make consumers think they need their products to be successful naturals. Usually not the case. As a former Affirm user, I immediately side-eyed them when they came out with their line for naturals I just get the impression that it's just to keep getting their money...

Good thread, OP!

I remember you telling someone I think it was about taking a lot of silica & some people went crazy..I told a couple of people to check with there Doctors before they start taking vits & you can sense the undertone of some..But,thats ok! Because you still have those that will listen/take good advice & pay attention to what the body is telling them....

(Some people are set how they feel & think) Sometimes you cant change that...NOT Overnight...

I don't take Chlorella, but could it be possible that the women in those posts overdid it. I know that it's common for some individuals to "OD" on supplements thinking if a little provides good results, then even more will provide better results. The first post said that she gradually upped her intake of chlorella until she became "green". What does that mean?

here's somemore TRUTH:

I agree that we AS A PEOPLE should be more concerned with what is going on in our communities, and THE WORLD, as it always seems as if the other persuasions are the main ones reaching out, doing charity work, and going on missions. I myself have NEVER seen a Black woman on TV over in Africa (who is from the U.S.) helping the people of Darfur, or helping to establish wells for clean drinking water. ETA: (Though we don't always "see it" on TV, I'm sure they're there, but NOT IN ENOUGH NUMBERS).

True, there are some, but I have never known one to go on a mission, as many, including my own mother and sisters, are too worried about sweating their hair out, getting bitten by mosquitoes (this is not to downplay the threat of malaria in sub-tropical areas), or what they can wear in Muslim countries. This prevents more Black women from going, I believe, along with an aversion to trying new foods, and traveling on a plane/boat/etc. I'm not generalizing and saying that Black women don't do missions, I'm saying that NOT ENOUGH engage in these types of things over the main thing...HAIR and appearance!! :look:

Like I told my mama, "Girl you better tie a wrap on that head and get on a plane to go and help folks if you can...too many are dying and desperate for simple things we take for granted." She agreed to sound "Holy," but would she ever REALLY do it? Hell naw...she too concerned about keeping her edges relaxed and her curls up in the heat (which is why she has such an aversion to natural, unprocessed hair...and screwed up her face when I left relaxers and frequent heat usage).

Now me, as soon as I get a Passport and my immunizations, I'm reads-ta go. I'm adventurous and willing to do what it takes...and I have a more simple view on life, not needing much to be happy. But, it's all about your view on life and what is important to that individual. I, for one, get on my knees daily to thank God for my blessings, some of them like having freedom, food, being able to walk, run, see, breathe, etc. I have been through a lot, so I have learned over the years not to put ANYTHING above Him (not religious, but spiritual). :drunk:

Thas just my take on being grateful for what hair I have...if I had NONE at all, I'd still praise Him and keep it moving with some fly caps/scarves. But since I do, I admit it is indeed very much fun playing in hair and makeup. This is one reason I LOVE BEING A WOMAN!!

However, I do remember my Scriptures, which say not to put too much effort into the outward appearance (paraphrasing), "Giving not thought to what you should wear, eat, or drink..." (not saying that you shouldn't care at all, but I generally take it as, "everything in moderation)."

Your thread should bring enlightenment to many who are being frivolous in their desires and what they think is important, but for the majority...it's only hair and we are thankful to have at least some.

Off my soapbox now...sorry so long :spinning:

Whoa, Obviously I was distracted because I didn't even see this. As to the first bolded I am very thankful for all of my blessings. To the rest, it don't apply, so I'll just let it fly. I have some unpopular opinions that I will keep to myself regarding some of the above.:nono:
