Naturals how big is your afro??

kayex-the only products in my regime areshea butter and water.:yep:

Oh I see what you did there. Letting me know "you got that good hair" :lachen: Just teasing in case anyone thinks I am serious with the use of that phrase.
Thanks for the info I hope when I am natural I can have a simple product list like that.

There should've been a hair porn alert for this thread!! <==Over these pictures!!! And my fro looks a lot like Nonie's "cloud"

And how do you make a poof pony with scrunchies??
Not enough for a pony yet!:giggle:

And how long did it take your afro to become big?
It's not big imo.

Did you Big Chop?
I BALD chopped, hehe!

How big is your afro?
Hmm...if it would actually stay put when I picked it out (lovesssss to shrink, grr) it'd be almost two inches...but it usually looks about 1/2-1 inch. Makes me sad.

AWWW man, I'm loving the fro's here!

anyway...I'm proud of my itty bitty fro cause we've come a long way! :) I BC'd at about 6 months in Jan and here I am last month-its combed and pulled back a bit with a band...but this is a good idea where I'm at.

and yea..you'll see from the pic. we are not at the ponytail stage yet...hopefully in another 3 months I *may* be able to get it all to fit in one! LOL

oooooh nice and full of sheen too. This thread is simply hair porn for a lowly transitioner like myself.

too small! :cry3::cry3: its in my siggie. My hair shrinks like crazy. (It's also cbl in the front and sl in the back i guess? not apl yet though.) and I still can't put it in a puff. I seriously have not figured that out yet. It always slips out of the elastic/stocking. Maybe its too short idk

Erm...WTH are you talking about? What do you call the style you have in your siggy? I see puffs and I'm wearing my glasses so I know I'm seeing clearly. :look:

Nonie - what is your twisting method? I have admired your twists in some threads for the longest. I just love the way they are lying flat & the twists appear so tight. I bet they make a beautiful twist out.

I'm loving all of these natural fros!!

Ok and the most hilarious pic goes to...:lachen:

Moi!!

"Hey Jive Turkey, can you pass me my Afro Sheen!" LOL!!!

OMG, I MUST really like y'all to have posted this one. Ugh, this strictly stays in the vault. And my afro may be a little bigger, as this is when I took it out over a month ago. To answer your questions, I don't know how to do a pony puff I think that's what you refered to it as. I bc'd in March. My hair is now (end of Aug.) 5 inches at the longest parts (top) and like 4-4 1/2 in the back and sides.

I twist like Mook's Hair where I first twist each strand of the twist in the same direction separately before I wrap them around each other in the opposite direction. Here's Mook's tutorial for doing twists with extensions, so I do the same thing w/o extensions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA5EC_5XPEU

I tried to create a demo vid hear using some strings:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-PPsh1_Np0

Then here on my own hair:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm0c7KPcj08

Doing twists this way keeps the hair in either strand separate from that in the other so that undoing them is a breeze:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jff-Uqfb_SA

From that last vid, you can see a twist-out isn't so hawt. Instead of being all nice and fluffy, it looks like wavy locks. It probably would be fluffy if I didn't keep the twists in for so long, but I'm so lazy that once I get twists in, I don't take them out for weeks. :sekret:

Here's what the hair looks like when I take the twists out. This isn't a good example though coz I made the mistake of wetting my hair after undoing hoping the weight of the water would stretch them and give my fine hair some weight, but my hair puffed up and lost the wavy look. But you can get an idea of what a twist-out from this method of twisting looks like by the way the bases of the twists to our left (middle pic) look:
TwistOutFlopSept2008-vi.jpg

Oh and about the twists lying flat, that's because after I do them, I wet them and let them drip dry. So the weight of the water keeps them down and they dry where they lay.

ETA: I found a pic that shows how a twist-out looks. :ohwell:

And how long did it take your afro to become big? I haven't relaxed in 2 years and 8 months.
Did you Big Chop? No I transitioned for roughly 16-18 months
How big is your afro? I have never measured it before, it's not as big as some on the ladies here. The picture here my hair is shrunken and not picked out.

I am going to stay out of this thread as I am just green with envy. Your hair is just so dang soft & juicy looking. I don't even know the proper way to describe it.

BEAUTIFUL HAIR LADIES!

And how do you make a poof pony with scrunchies?? I don't do a poof pony, I always do a puff. using a scuncci ouchless band.

Did you Big Chop? No I transitioned for roughly 2 years, trimming and then cut off whatever was left at the 2 year mark.
How big is your afro? I have never measured it This picture is parted, finger-detangled & SHRUNKEN...not picked out. Doesn't really do it justice.

Haven't taken a full fro pic in a while.

It isn't big enough to compare to yalls

A fro is still fro regardless of how big (or small) it is. I gotta a baby fro, but it's growing!! So go ahead and post your fro!! And make sure you pick it out!! Don't be scared, because there's someone's fro that might be smaller than yours and is hestitant to post their pics too!!

And how do you make a poof pony with scrunchies?? The front hair doesn't reach the back so I have to make a puff and attach a fake puff to make it bigger and divalicious!! I have Youtube explaining it, check it out below!

And how long did it take your afro to become big? I dont think my afro is BIG but its getting there. I think after about 8 months post BC (depending how long you transitioned...for me, I started with lil to nothing!) you should have a good sized afro.
Did you Big Chop? YES, I REGRET IT. TRANSITION TRANSITION TRANSITION

How big is your afro?

My afro is not as big as I want. When I blow it out, it flops over. I can't pick it out because it's too kinky and hurts.

How I made a puff changed as my hair got longer. When it was shorter, I needed something big enough to grab part of my actual head. This will happen if your hair is dense, kinky with a lot of shrinkage, or shorter. Once my hair got longer, I could use a smaller elastic because I had enough hair to actually make a ponytail off of my head, one that only held hair and not scalp.

Sometimes you have to make the elastic/stocking tighter. Now you don't want to pull your hair out:nono: but that was the key for me to get my first puff. Also, you may not be able to have to have the front of the stocking so far back as everyone else. I couldn't for a short time. There's other styles you can where though!:yep::yep: Try braiding or twisting the front back and attach a phony puff. I did it and it looks great! (Check out my links below for pics/vids).

I've never picked it out so I have no idea how big is could be....It always looks bigger to me in person than it does in pics. I know it's getting up there b/c I have issues driving and I have very little peripheal vision I have to use the side mirrors now. :lachen:

For Puffs - if I'm using a scrunci it has to be a GIANT scrunci, so big it can fit around my head, and then I just slide it back - it makes a giant loose puff, and then I can add an headband or scarf in front if I want the ends flat and smooth. Mostly though I use the ouchless flat headbands and cut them along the back seam so I can tie them tighter if need be. T-Shirt scraps make great puff holders too!

I BC'd 7/15/09 after a 17.5 month transition. This is the length stretched:

My fro is sooooo weak. It's probably only about an inch long, if that. My hair has so much shrinkage. It's ridiculous. It makes me a little sad sometimes.
