Is This Vendor Trying To Rip Me Off?

So there is this vendor from Trinidad that supposedly has a leave in that works amazing for 4c hair. I have yet to see a bad review. So we contacted her and asked for the price of the product. She said it would be $25 American for an 8oz leave in.

I did some research and looked around even found a vendor selling the product for 35 dollars in eastern carribean currency. That's is around $14 USA. All the other ladies that live in that part of the world say that is the price of her product.

I replied and asked if the price had changed. After all, if the product keeps my hair moisturized to where the ends don't break off ( breakage is my problem. Hair grows SUPER fast but I can never stop the breakage), then it's worth $25 to me. This is the answer she gave me

"
Hi *******, no you're not being charged more. What happened is that since I have my products in a nationwide beauty retailer, one of the conditions is that I can't sell for less than they're selling the products for it I can be sued. So my retail price now matches theirs. So sorry for the confusion!

Regards"

I thought product developers could sell their products for whatever prices they want. I have never heard of this. Im not trying to be cheap its just that I have traveled to a lot of countries such as Jamaica, Nigeria, Trinidad and they seem to think Americans are rich, so they try to over charge in my experience. Especially in the Caribbean. One lady was trying to change me $100 for a pair of wooden earrings and i immediately laughed and started to walk away. She lowered her price to $5 but as I was insulted I never looked back. I was so overwhelmed with people trying to hustle me in Jamaica, it was if there was a hustling parade going on.

Even my holy grail leave in ( qhemet biologics burdock root butter cream) is $6 cheaper than the price this woman is charging me. It's just the burdock root cream is too greasy. Greasy hair is a pet peeve of mine, so it doesn't get enough moisture and breaks. Greasy things just sit on my anyways.

I don't want to put this woman on blast in case she is being honest. I have been around here for almost 10 years so I have seen this community bring down many a vendors, which is not malicious it's just that word spreads like wildfire in these communities and well....so I don't wish to do that if she's honest. It's just $25 for a leave in s expensive even by American standards.

What do you ladies think?

I don't know anything about this but it would make sense that her contract with the people that bought her product would require her prices not to undercut theirs right? Otherwise everyone could just continue to buy from her. $25 is steep for some but I buy it's a 10 products that can cost a small fortune for a mini haul.

Why not purchase from the other vendor?

The thing is, she operates from a Facebook page and then goes to hair events like the ladies here do when they are first starting up. When we first contacted her I was under the impression that she herself would ship this out to me. She told me that the shipping would be expensive as I expected. I was only able to find the one vendor online selling her product and as I said he price was around $14 USA. That vendor will not ship to the USA. So if she has a contact here in the USA that bought her product, why would it still be shipped from Trinidad?

Well her response said her products are in a nationwide beauty retailer and they sell her product for x amount. You contacted her directly so I am assuming the product you purchase would be coming from her directly. And she's in Trinidad right? However, can you find out who this "nationwide beauty retailer" is? According to her you may end up spending just as much since she is trying to match their price. If nothing else, when you find the retailer you should be able to figure out whether or not she was trying to scam you.

Ok I'm going to ask her. Also, wouldn't a nation wide beauty retailer be able to arrange cheaper shipping? Because when I contacted this lady, she said the shipping to the USA would be at least $20. It's a lot but I would pay it if the product worked.

I have looked online for a nationwide retailer, and the only retailer I can find selling her product is in Antigua and the only ship to Antigua and Barbuda. That's not considered part of Trinidad correct? Is it possible Google isn't showing me a nation wide retailer because I'm in the USA?

I am outside of the US. I can google it to see if different results come up.
