I'll give the first group a try. But I don't know much about hair and I see that I won't be able to give flat T/F answers to some of these.

Depends on which expensive brand and which inexpensive one and which hair type. :)

Not always. Depends on which/what for/who...etc.

3. Silicone is bad for hair.

Not necessarily bad for the hair. Depends on the type of hair and type of silicone. I don't like it on my hair. Some people swear by it.

4. You can repair damaged hair.

I'd like to think you can. But I've heard you cannot.

5. Dyeing hair isn’t damaging.

I think it is. So, I'd say this is false.

6. You can perm and color hair without causing more damage, if you wait a few weeks between treatments.

I think this is false...but I don't know.

7. Dyeing hair is dangerous and can cause cancer.

I've heard that before, but have never seen any studies done or anything. It's possible that some dyes contain harmful ingredients.

8. Some hair-care products can protect hair from sun damage.

Ummm...true?

9. Frequent hair brushing is good for hair.

Not my hair, dude.

10. Cutting hair makes it thicker.

No.

11. Just like skin, your hair needs sun protection.

I have done research on the net and supposedly its the chemicals in the darker dyes that are dangerous. The study talked about the carcinogen rate is much higher and the women who used these over long periods were in worse health condition than women who 'lightened' their hair. I stopped using Bigen because of this. I typed in PPD's and all this stuff came up on it. Im frustrated because i love my black hair and i havent found any alternatives :( Here's a link for anyone who cares:

Yeah i know. I said the same thing...i havent read every single link on the site i posted but when i googled "PPD - Bigen Hair Dye", that was enough for me. Anyway, i didnt mean to high-jack your thread. Great post!

Thank you for posting this. I recalled hearing something about the darker dyes on a radio program once, but I didn't pay enough attention. I don't dye my hair, but I was recently contemplating it. I love BLACK hair. I just don't want to do damage.
