You must have that super thick hair!

Mine's not thick enough to section off, so I guess one.

Oh if only. My top portion is pretty flat and non-poofy it's my ends that have all the thickness. I don't know if that's a good thing or not yet...

For those that wash in sections. How are your sections erm, section?

I do it in braids but I don't think my products saturate completely that way but if I do it in twists they come undone each time I use water.

I guess I can always use clips or whatnot but I share a bathroom so I always have to lug around the stuff so that can get pretty tricky.

I grab chunks of hair on the fly when I'm detangling in the shower, but I don't really have twisted/braided sections. So kinda "none" but kinda 4

With this transitioning hair, and my hair being as long and thick as it is...the last time I was like 3 mos post and washed my hair w/o sections...I had a HOT TANGLED MESS on my hands! I looked in the mirror after applying my leave-ins and nearly wanted to break down crying at the detangling task to come. Never again...she gets washed in 4 sections like those for applying relaxer.

ETA: I twist the sections up in sloppy bantu knots/single twists, and clip in place while I work on other sections or leave the conditioner to penetrate.

I wash and detangle in 3 sections (1 in the back, 2 in the front,) but I don't actually braid or pin the sections- i just take 1 hair elastic with me in the shower

I do not section,a good deep conditioner like NTM or GD smooth as silk melts tangles away so I do not have to worry about detangling.

Besides....my hair is really fine

I'm transitioning and tried sectioning before but they always came undone. I'm going to give it a try next wash with 6 sections b/c tangling is my new enemy :wallbash:

eta: I dc'ed on dry hair in 12 sections today (wasn't as bad as it sounds) then washed and conditioned each section in the shower. Detangling was effortless and saved me about 30 minutes. Will definitely be doing this again!

When my hair was short I didn't section it
APL-BSL I would section it off in 2
I am MBL now and I find that I need 4 sections. It detangles very easily, but its harder to shampoo or co-wash my hair if its not in sections. I also find that I shed less hair when I section off. Oh and I don't braid my hair when I do this.

Since i'm transitioning, i section my hair off in about 8 (sometimes 4) plaits when i wash or condition my hair. I had a bad experience from washing all of my hair together at once, during this transition, so i just try and be careful by doing my hair in sections..
Yep! :yep: I religiously wash my hair in sections; I started at around the 9-10 month post mark and it has saved me a lot of hair, and has relieved a lot of stress. I got lazy one day in December (11 months post) and just wanted to see what would happen if I washed my hair loose... :nono: Never again! It took me almost an hour to detangle. In sections now my detangling is 10-15 mins tops.

Try putting bands at the ends of your hair. :yep: As long as your careful to remove them you won't have any problems, this is what I do since my relaxed ends are too straight to hold a plait when the water streams down on them.

ETA: Forgot to answer the question, I do about 6 (sometimes up to 8) braided sections. It's a hair-saver as I'm 13.5 months post!

I am also going to start putting bands on the end of my hair when I wash to see if my ends will unravel and not get tangled so quickly.

Best,

I wash in 4 sections. My hair is somewhere between APL & BSL. Tangling is not an issue for me- I do it because I have wildly varying textures in various parts of my head that seem to prefer different care. I am a newbie so I am still working out my regimen but for example my crown has tighter curls, dryness issues and possibly chemical scalp damage or sensitive scalp so I do not want to leave the shampoo on too long- being light with the shampoo here then rinsing through to the length seems to be working. The bottom half of the back of my head has very loose curls, waves, and naturally straight hair and seems to respond well when I smooth the shampoo down the length.

Just wash it all together, seems like it would take xtra long to section my hair off! I might try...

right now only one; but as my hair grows longer i will do like my long hair divas, and wash in at least 2 sections.

So tonight I washed my hair in two section. I used hair one to poo it lightly then followed up with a light dc. I only fingercombed so I'm not sure how this will hold up with actual detangling. Maybe 4 sections will be better for that. My bangs already natually section themselves off so it's kinda 4 sections already except not.

I just notice that the poll closed I thought I had it for indefinite. Guess not...

When I was relaxed I would just wash my hair I never sectioned. Now that Im natural I find it a lot easier to section off. I saturate my hair first then put in 4 little afro puffs. This works for me to detangle and when I two strand twist

I do 6. Once my hair gets longer, I will do 4. I condition and wash my hair in sections b/c it keeps my coily hair from tangling on itself and I lose so much less hair when I detangle this way. Sectioning is a natural's best friend, esp if you have kinky coily hair, you all know!

I think I might start doing this when my hair is a little longer. I need to do something because my tangles are becoming...ummm...interesting...

I already section DD's hair, so I am familiar with its benefits, but I am not sure if my hair is long enough yet for sections. I hope it is....

I don't wash in sections either. Since my hair naturally falls into a center part when its wet, I use that to my advantage while shampooing. As for detangling, my magic potion for breezy detangling is using Roux Fermodyl with a layer of creamy leave-in on top. I experienced the easiest detangling I've ever had using this method.

Even with the worst new growth, I split my hair down the middle and wash one half at a time, keeps the tangles down and not a lot of extra effort is required.

Thanks hun....most times 8 but if im feeling really determined it'll be more, especially if I wanna do a braid-out:yep:
