how do you moisturize for the night?

I use elasta qp mango butter with a drop of castor oil and two drops of olive oil focusing on my ends. Now I do this before taking a warm shower -- shower cap of course, and I think the steam from the shower helps the oils to penetrate my hair. Then silk scarf and sweet dreams.

Londongirl3, is your cat fixed? All that behaviour sounds like an unaltered tom cat- it's very typical behaviour: fighting, howling, spraying. Take him to the vet get the snip, and you can get back to taking care of your fabulous hair!

Londongirl, awww...Meet cat-crazy me and probably one of the few here that can sympathize with your not-so-happy cat. Isn't it funny how they don't learn...Or that they learn to make do with what they have left and are daring enough to go right back where they got their injuries from. Perhaps Feliway might help calm your kitty down and make all involved happier?

You can buy it from pet stores as a spray or a plug-in thingy that releases those happy-hormone-like substances into the air. Aaaand

maybe you could also buy enough catnip live-plants and place pots all around so your kitty will be so high and happy, s/he won't care to leave home. If you can't find the plants (which are real potent...) any catnip will do. I've seen my kitties tear up a bag in play and then lie tummy up pawing the air (as if doing a silent rap) and purring up a storm.

Can anyone say cat weed?

Sorry guys...Back to the hair topic, I am one of the lazy ones that doesn't do much at night except sometimes put on a plastic cap after having sprayed Dew in my hair for the day wear. However, the night before my wash (done twice a week), I do drench my hair in oil (remnants of Paltas BKC) and sleep in a plastic cap.

[EDIT: I assumed he was neutered. Good point, indeed, Mermaid! If he isn't; he'll be a much happier kitty once he is. Or if he is, a visit to the vet might be a good idea anyway to make sure they got all his gonads (a piece left might cause problems). Also it'll be a good way to rule out urinary tract infection. Good thinking, Mermaid.]

Nonie, does Paltas still exist?? I remember back in the day my mum used to smear it on my head, but this was in africa, I didn't think it was available in the US. Does it work well for you?

I got it in Africa too but it was an imitation (Pallitas) and it worked just as well. If I knew anyone coming over from there, I'd definitely ask for it. The only place I've been able to find Paltas is the UK. I had someone bring me some when they went over there to visit. Hairtex is another imitation a friend of mine found for me in Birmingham UK. Same type of bottle as Paltas, same smell, just different name. Paltas warns on the bottle to beware of imitations. But they (the imitations) haven't hurt me yet.

I don't think any of them are available in the US.

And does it work for me? Absolutely. It's the only thing I've used so far that makes my nappy hair soft and truly moisturized. But I haven't tried anything else yet. So I will need suggestions when I ran out.

I'm still in the experimental stage with way too many products to list. But there is one thing that I'm doing consistantly and that is to use something that's water based and that has an oil in the mix. And of course, the satin scarf with a satin pillowcase.

At the moment I spray my hair with water then apply some essential oils. I plan to pick up some elasta qp mango butter for my ends and when my hair is in a dry style that I don't want to ruin. I'll still seal with the essential oils.

Then I put on my satin scarf but I also put on a cotton scarf on top of that. Does anyone think this will cause problems? I just can not keep the satin scarf on without it!

sorry to go further off topic, but when a cat is mentioned i get all sentimental... *S*

I know this is going off tangent but just to explain...... my cat has three legs and is blind in one eye. This was not the way I got him. He always roams around the neighbourhood and goes around fighting with dogs!! Ofcourse night time is the time he wants to go out but he can't do it anymore because he can't afford to lose another leg. So he gets angry and scampers around the house spraying everything in site. I got my own back and sprayed him back with water. (hehe ). That stops him atleast from stinking up the house but he will cry for hours (For the last year he has kicked up a fuss EVERY NIGHT and he is doing it now.) The neighbours are yet to complain but I think it is something to do with us being 4 black girls in the house.
