Have you tried Katam?

How to use Katam (buxus Dioica)

hennasooq.com sent me a sample of Katam when I ordered her henna. I liked how my hair looked when I used it the 1st time; but there was still too much red in my hair. So I ordered some and began to experiment with it and henna to get the shade of brown I wanted. I wanted a warm dark brown. Using henna and katam gave me a medium brown color. I now use 50g henna, 50g katam and 2 tbsp of indigo to get a warm, dark brown color.

Order some katam and experiment with it.

Sorry, I can't be of any help in how to get highlights using henna.

Go to http://mehandi.com/ and download the free Henna ebook: http://www.mehandi.com/shop/hennahairbook/index.html
They have great suggestions for getting various hair colors using henna. It's a 57 page book.

Hope this helped some.

^^^Thanks but I am really just wanting to bleach my hair and start over and wanting to know if that is safe? Henna turns my gray an orange color no maatter if I do indigo after it or not. My hair now is dark brown almost black but my roots and the gray is orange.

pompous blue, can you post a pic for me. I too want a rich color without turning to dye. I have been experimenting with henna and indigo, I'm going to look into katam.

Thanks.

@SS - I don't really know what to tell you as henna will interact with your bleach. Stylists don't generally know how to deal with henna when doing color correction. Make sure when you do go to the salon you take them a picture of your natural pre-henna hair color if possible and take a picture of what level of lightness you want your highlights to look like.

I strongly recommend going to a salon so they can assess your hair and act accordingly. Since you've henna'd, the color may not "take" since henna coats the strands. Moreover, permanent color is also not usually recommended on henna'd hair.

I also recommend doing a search on here. There is ALOT of information on here about permanent color. Additionally, I recall reading a member's experience with permanent color and henna and the color didn't come out as she had anticipated. Unfortunately I can't remember the member's name or the thread. I just recall encountering her experience when doing a search for permanent color on here.

well then....let them know you've used "natural hair dye" in the past and still make sure you take a pic of how light you want your highlights. It does them no good with a verbal description.

Give your self a protein DC or spray a protein spray on your hair before and after the process - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Ok so here is my plan: The last time I did a henna treatment was in Mar. I am not going to color my hair until Dec. so that maybe some of the henna will wear off or at least so I wount compound the stength by adding more henna to my already henna head. I will do some more research.

I am also getting a dusting next week and I will ask my stylist what she thinks about all of this.

I should have never used henna. It gives a new meaning to the words permanant hair dye.:ohwell:
