Hair Care Consistency Challenge 2018

I plan on letting my hair grow out a little, so 1-2 inches on the top and crown. I will keep my sides and back faded. I want my crown to be fuller and not have to worry about somebody cutting it down too low. I was wondering about rosewater to spritz my hair when it grows out?
I still have just been washing and conditioning with Design Essentials in the shower 1-2x a week, and m&s. I still have been using tea tree oil in my crown area. I like that Mizani coconut souffle, but I think it irritates my scalp, especially in the crown area. I will just use that on my boys for now on.
I wonder what are some good girls out there that are protein free? Or do curling creams really work?

Hehe thanks
How have you been faring?

:kiss:Thanks for asking!

I've been feeling really down emotionally for more than a month and trying to identify the source and just manage it.

But . . . I've been trying to get/stay positive, be gentle with myself, etc.

Hairwise, I've been practicing my wash and go technique and have kept to none of my consistency rules.

At least I have purchased VERY few things.

Sending positive energy your way!
I know how irritating it is to be stressed out by an obscure stressor. And in my experience 9 out of ten times, the thing turns out to be much less bad than it felt.

BTW hair has always been a great distraction and de-stressor for me. When I'm playing in my hair, I forget all my problems.

So what did you purchase?

Thanks, chica. So kind, and it's really encouraging me right now.

Since the beginning of the year, I have purchased:
  • 1-inch flexirods (12 one-inch diameter ones for $14)
  • Sally's: Texture ID Foam (love this stuff . . . but not sure of best use for it yet)
  • Bronner Brothers gel x 2 . . . hold is strooooooonnnngggg if I use no leave in beneath it. It's awesome on my hair. Holy grail. Best I've ever used. I made a thread about it with pics.
  • Bronner Brothers cream based on review. Meh.
I have resisted a Curl Origin twisting cream and the avocado and honey -containing DC.

You make me want to try this Bronner's gel. You've been saying all sorts of enticing things about it! Does it by any means aid with moisture retention?

I’m on the hunt for a hair moisturizer that doesn’t have nut oils in them. I did something fun today! I got my hair cut, with a cool little design, and some color! I got it cut so I can grow the top out a little. I’m glad I’m able to have fun with my hair!

Time for a report:

1. Washing at most once every 7 days. Goal is 10-14 days
Done. The first time I washed on day 13. The second time on day 16. I want to include my twa in this and style it less often. I need it to retain. It already grows slower than the rest of my hair. At the same time I want to experiment on it so as to learn my natural hair. Maybe I'll do it maximally one time per week.

2. Combing at most once every 2 months. Finger detangling on all other wash days
Done. I haven't combed yet since the start of the year

3. Moisturising and sealing at least every other day
Not done. I did not moisturize and seal as frequently, and for that reason my bun was not as neat and juicy towards the end. But it was wash day today and all was well. No increased dryness, breakage or tangling.

4. Oil rinsing on every wash day
Done. I co-washed today and I used a castor oil mix to oil rinse.

5. Buying products only to replace empty ones.
Done. I bought oils to replace the ones I have used up. Nothing else was purchased.

Did I earn my :cup:?

I can't figure out how to upload a certificate gif on my phone, so let me just say . . .

Awesome!!!!!!! You did that! Excellence, ma'am!

Update

I used my 22nd Century Shampoo Bar yesterday.

OH MY! :thud:

I need to add to my consistency goal the following: Use the 22nd Century Shampoo Bar for 3 out of every 4 (or 5 out of every 6) weeks. On the other week, use a chelating shampoo (such as HairPrint Chelating Shampoo).

P.S. I just ordered 2 more of the 22nd Century shampoo bars. I don't know HOW I keep forgetting that that bar is INCREDIBLE on my hair. I was able to finger detangle with it, it kept my hair stretched and elongated so that it didn't retangle, and after rinse out it left my hair clean, conditioned, hydrated, strong, and with extra hang.

Is it stripping? Would you say it’s a moisturizing shampoo bar, or a clarifying shampoo bar?

It's definitely not clarifying. It leaves my hair soft and feeling hydrated. It does suds up greatly.

Here is the description from the site. (NOTE: I disagree that it is low suds, as does anothe reviewer.)

Try the 22nd Century Shampoo Bar that is talked about on YouTube. Made with natural ingredients and 100% pure essential oils. This bar creates ultra low suds that prevents stripping the hair of natural oils. Rich with natural glycerin, it leaves natural hair soft, shiny, clean, and healthy. The natural oil blends allow gentleness for body and shaving needs. This bar is vegan friendly and also packs great for traveling. Helps to decrease shrinkage due to dryness.

The 22nd Century Tea Tree Shampoo Bar was created to help with scalp irritations and issues of heavy dandruff. Made with natural ingredients and infused with tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils. This bar creates ultra low suds that prevents stripping the hair of natural oils and can help your scalp feel better to give your hair a good chance to grow.

  • Natural
  • Long Lasting
  • Non Stripping
Saponified Oils, Shea Butter, Raw Honey, Water, Organic Cranberry Juice (a natural antioxidant), Turmeric, and infused with Tea Tree and Eucalyptus Essential Oils.

Update

Someone mentioned Dubaidee4c's tweaked, sleeker method of doing the Max Hydration Method. I looked into it and then I jumped on it: I want to be able to use the gel I love that can sometimes dry out my hair. I figured reaching max hydration could be the solution!!!

Dubaidee4c's method helps in so many unanticipated ways!!! I wasn't expecting that. One example: I have been avoiding leave-in because it interferes with my styler, but of course that can reduce moisture. Well, turns out she also had been avoiding leave-in conditioner, and she has the perfect replacement!

Anyhoo, I just finished the initial clarify and Cherry Lola Caramel Treatment (CLCT) steps.

To do a month of her method, basically, you:
  1. Clay wash and go (clay, spray, gel)
  2. Wear the wng a second day, refreshing if need be
  3. Wear the wng a third day, refreshing if need be
  4. Water wash and go (water-only wash, spray, gel)
  5. Wear the wng a second day, refreshing if need be
  6. Wear the wng a third day, refreshing if need be
  7. [Start pattern over]: Clay wash and go (clay, spray, gel)
  8. And so on . . .
Also, IIRC, if need be you do the CLCT (for protein and moisture).

:scratchchin: I'm going to try to try this. ( Sticking with the same old, same old for a month?!?? I'm going to try!!!)

To start, on water-only wash days, I will be using 22nd Natural Shampoo Bar. It's a sudsy shampoo that is a detangler and a conditioner. It leaves my hair in the most amazing shape. I can't see it thwarting max hydration at all, and its creator has used it to grow her hair and her children's hair to super lengths, so it shouldn't be problematic. :yep:
