  • Poll closed .
What length are you now?-

Crown- NL
Nape- APL
Sides- between SL and APL

What's your goal length for this challenge?- Full APL, I'm over these layers

What's your regimen?- Wash, DC, Condition, oil, Leave-in, Cream, and Queen Shea. If my scalp gets itchy from my workouts, I rinse my hair/scalp well, condition for slip, then oil, leave-in, cream, and Queen Shea. I have only started doing this recently. It has made a difference in the manageability of my hair.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB?

Consistency!!!!!!!!!! I will do the following:
1.) I require a healthy diet, vitamins/bamboo tea, yoga/cardio, and keep my hands out of my hair.
2.) I will not go the salon until my birthday (June 27). The visit is only to update my color. I may change my mind
3.) I will not use any scissors until the December reveal.
4.) I will protective style 90% of the time.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?- July 2020, even if I reach my goal, I will continue the challenge.

sprayed my diy braid spray. my scalp feels great. made hair oil batch#3 using double boiling method to heat the oil. still put herbs in a tea bag. i love it even more than batch#2 so far. i like batch#2, but i need to cut it with a plain smelling oil like avocado oil. i will do that and either give it away or use it later in the year. i used a bit of batch#3 for tonights scalp massage

Getting my hair ready for 2020. I have already cleansed, did a amino acid treatment. I deep conditioned, rinsed and now doing an overnight DC.

Tomorrow I will do LOC or LCO or both and put my hair into flat twists.

I will see if I can keep my ends fresh. I'm a little doubtful.

I want in!!!

Post the following to join

What length are you now?
Crown is CBL
Back is BSB
Sides are APL

What's your goal length for this challenge?

BSB and MBL for the sides and majority of my hair. (The crown may take a while... so APL for the crown)

What's your regimen?
Wash n gos for half the months and protective styling for the other months.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB?
Moisturize my hair OFTEN! Softer and gentler detangling, and more deep conditioning-weekly...
Incorporate more steaming into my regimen.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?

July 2020.

Post your starting pic.

I have no straight hair pics, I will look for some curly stretch pics to upload

My first post and my first challenge! Been a lurker for a while so I'm really excited to join in.

What length are you now?
Mostly SL. Some of my sides are a bit shorter than that though since my big chop a year ago was a tapered cut.

What's your goal length for this challenge?
APL for all sides of my hair

What's your regimen?
I'll be protective styling for at least the first half year as I finish up my undergraduate degree. Will be doing twists and twist outs in between.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB?
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Also trying to be in my hair less so I get less tangles and SSKs. Definitely gonna try pre-pooing more next year.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?
December 2020.

I just watched 2 long haired youtubers, who both keep their hair straight (one relaxed, one natural). I want to start the new year off on the right foot, so I'm going to do a major overhaul of my regimen and see if I get better retention. I used to take such good care of my hair years ago, but I've gotten so half-butt over the years.

Changes to Regimen:
Only comb hair on wash day
Only use a wide tooth comb (I use a paddle brush and denman)
Use sulfate-free shampoo
DC once a week
Handle hair gently and in sections
Moisturize and seal between washes
No heat all of January

It's crazy, but I don't do these things now. Like I haven't been on here for a thousand years and know better :spinning: :spinning:

I'm good on my word: I bought curly clip ins yesterday and did half my head...I'm going to rewash my hair, deep condition the area in front that I'm leaving out, and I will install these clip ins and see if I can get away with this for half, or most of January.
(Oh. And I steamed and detangled the back half of my head yesterday and put it up in chunky twists)

Washed my braids this morning. Put on joiko kpak. Added my gelatin mix sometime this evening. I let that sit for a couple of hours. I didn't use heat, but I did cover with a cap and towel. Rinsed that all out. Put on my scalp oil. Put Shea on my braids where my hair is. I'm letting it dry wrapped in a microfiber towel.

What length are you now? APL

What's your goal length for this challenge? Get to BSL by year end

What's your regimen? in 2020, i'm revamping my hair regimen but I will keep the wash at every two weeks

Every month: clarify and do an Aphogee 2 step protein treatment

Every two weeks:
  • Prepoo: Ayurvedic hot oil
  • Wash: mix of Rhassoul clay + African black soap
  • Deep condition: Moringa Honey Deep Conditioner
  • Rinse out conditioner: Hisbiscus conditioner
  • Leave in conditioner (liquid): Mango leave in conditioner
  • Leave in conditioner (cream): Matcha tea leave in
  • Braid: Chebe hair butter
I will rebraid using LCO method every five days in between wash but the oil part will be the Chebe hair butter

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB? Protective styling, no heat, finger detangling

What month do you expect to reach your goal? I'm hoping to be at BSB by June and BSL by December

I just came across a really cool article that I thought was going to be a joke, but came through with sounding pretty well supported especially compared to my experiences with what I diagnosed as hygral fatigue..

https://curlyhairlounge.com/stop-overnight-deep-conditioning-is-damaging-your-hair

Based on this article, I will be sure not to continue deep conditioning overnight. I have always done this thinking that I need more moisture, but also protein. I will not be doing this for now on. I'll follow the suggested times on commercial deep conditioners and dc for a max of 30 minutes, especially with heat... I usually only do 15-20 minutes with heat anyway. I just need to rinse out afterwards instead of keeping it in.

Yes if you know you have issues stick with the instructions. Every head doesn't need the extra.

@faithVA thanks for the support! This should allow me to get through this stuck state. I read that you were doing well with your nutrition and starting rinsing back up!!:weird:... we will both beat the nl/sl/apl blues this year lol

I'm also doing well with my nutrition. I'm glad that I started up a bit before January so that I hopefully have made it a habit. Focusing on my hair is keeping me motivated more than focusing on my weight lol

When my hair was curly, I used to suffer from hygral fatigue as well. I wasn't DCing overnight or doing the greenhouse method. If I washed my hair more than every 3 days, my hair would start to lose its integrity :pullhair:

I did my first mini trim of the year yesterday before I washed my hair. I cleansed with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioned with Aunt Jackie's Coco Repair. I towel dried for a little bit then moisturized with the small pack of Mielle leave-in that I got from the BSS. It smells soooo good and left my hair feeling soft. I sealed with my Cantu Anti-frizz oil. I tried doing the scarf method to get my roots to lay flat, but it didn't really do much. I ended up putting my hair up into a ponytail to let it finish drying. I put my hair in 4 bantu knots overnight, and my hair came out so cute :supergrin:

Sooooooooooo, I was scraping APL before the summer of '19 and got a wild hair up my butt, colored my hair, straightened it with a Brazilian Keratin Treatment and shaved. my. head.

Actually, it was just the sides and back shaved, but I had a cute little Salt n Pepa summer cut.................then the summer ended and I realized I was bald AF.
APL has always been an in-between stage for me....it's where I'd always cut my hair off.
Years ago I reached BSL, but cut it all the way up to SL.
So I'm back........................growing it out for the umpteenth time. This time I'm making a ***VOW*** not to BC again.

What length are you now?
I'm growing out an asymmetric cut so I'm different lengths.
My top is Ear length. my sides and back are TWA length

What's your goal length for this challenge?
To reach CBL.

What's your regimen?
DAILY: Onion juice, co-wash, leave-in, WGO, HSN supplement.
WEEKLY: Deep Conditioner.
BIWEEKLY: Cassia Henna.
MONTHLY: Clarifying shampoo

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB?
Leave the scissors alone, except for an occasional trim and evening out this cut over time.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?
December

I have to figure out how to get my fine hair to have decent size twists, that dont have me looking crazy on those offtimes at work where Im not wearing my hat.

It would be nice if my twists looked styled and not just twisted together. I've never been really good at styling my twists once my hair grew past a certain length.

gotta figure out if its technique and or product.

I just accepted the fact that my hair is too fine and soft for twists. I keep hoping that once my hair gets longer, my twists won’t look so deprived. I don’t man, but let me know if you find anything that works.

Welcome. We will try to hold you to your word to stay away from the scissors.

I saw your twists in the other thread and they looked a decent size to me. Am I missing something.

I think clean parts with some variation to them helps give twist a sense of style without doing anything special.

@faithVA When I do my twists I do them on damp hair or dry hair to give the hair a little fullness. They look plumper that way. The second day the hair shrinks down some and they start to look scraggly. I pull them back under my hat at work which stretches the hair and after about a week , they are extra skinny looking. Usually on the weekends, I take the twists out and fluff until it looks fuller.

From this vantage point, your twists look fine. Since you have to wear a hard hat, is it possible for you to two-strand flat twist the front going back halfway, then two-strand twist the back of your head per usual? That way you have a style that looks good under the hard hat and hopefully allow your twists to stay juicy.

I dunno. I'll see how it looks on the weekend. Its just looks like I have 10 twists on my head when I attempt to pull them back up or anyways.

I took that picture this morning after moisturizing so they look better @keranikki
