Use Up Your Stash 2012 - Session 1

I have opted to start this thread since it helped me, and others

Sessions are as follows:
Session 1 - Jan. 1, 2012 - April 30, 2012
Session 2 - May 1, 2012 - August 31, 2012
Session 3 - Sept. 1, 2012 - December 31, 2012

You can sign up for all the sessions or lets do one at a time


The Rules:

1. Use the suggested categories or add categories of your own, list your stash within 5 days of joining the challenge. If you have a REALLY Big stash, put in a little at a time. But keep your list updated with the products used, given away, exchanged, etc.

Posting a starting pic of your stash is optional. You can then update this "place holder" as we go along with details of what you have used, sold, exchanged and given away.

2. For each category you can include 1 item for a staple. Mark this item. You can purchase 1 staple item per category to have 1 on hand without using a pass. If you stock up on staples anything beyond 1 item must be put in your stash list.

3. Participants are allowed 1 product purchase per month

4. The idea is to decrease your stash not increase it. You are free to swap, sell, throw away and give away products to your heart’s content as long as the stash is "decreasing". The aim is to be reasonable and realize that we do not need to buy so much stuff but rather be more disciplined with our regiments and learn to establish our staples by actually using the stuff instead of continually buying more !!!

6. Also please check in every 2 weeks to let us all know how it is going and to get support so you do not fall off the challenge.

7. If you fall off the wagon, update your stash list and get back in the game. The idea is to encourage better spending habits, make wise product purchases and to gain discipline in our regimens.

My Goal is to reduce my stash by 8% right now and 20% by the end of the year. I plan to only make 6 purchases for the year. It can be various quantity but one type. I have kinda tweeked it to meet my needs as far as using my stuff up.

I want to spend less on products this year and start using all the products I currently have. This is a year of maximum savings for me.

To use up 25-50% of my non-staple products. I co-wash daily so I think I can do it. Ultimately, I want to purchase items from just two companies online and on the ground so I am not wasting money on shipping charges.

1. What are your motivations for joining this challenge? I'm trying to decrease what I have in areas outside of hair products as well to reduce clutter and organize, so this is perfect for me. Plus I have products that have been sitting here for way too long. As you can see I have a lot of staples (changes depending during the warm and cold months, and based on how long into a stretch I am) so I'd like to eventually get down to mostly just those. In addition to not buying what I don't need, I'm going to stop getting freebies (full size and samples) until I reduce.

Discovered that I had another bottle of Claudie's satin moisturizer tucked away under the sink. So I just killed the last of that tonight.

Washed my hair this morning and killed a bottle of Skala Shea Butter conditioner.

Threw out Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobab conditioner. My hair hates this conditioner. Every time I use it, in whatever capacity, my hair feels coated and waxy. I threw it out. I think I am officially done with Shea Moisture products.

Trying to figure out ways to get rid of products now that I've changed my reggie up a bit. Not cowashing my hair as many times while I'm in twists.

Then I could start experimenting again.
