I need help finding songs to perform in church (SDA)

hey ladies. I just recently started going back to church again after abstaining for 11 years. For those of you who dont know I am SDA. I have suddenly been thrust into the position of coordinating the youth at my church and I am at a lost as to what to do, But my immediate problem relates to music. Our church is tiny so when it comes to getting people together to perform there arent a lot of options. We have a group of 4 girls (including myself) and I am trying to find songs that we would be able to sing. We performed today and lets just say that it was disastrous and I refuse to go through that again! I need songs that are not too difficult as we are not all that great  and we wont have more than 2 or 3 hours a week to be able to practice. I also have to mention that I go to a Haitian church. I dont know if its an SDA thing in general or a Haitian thing but we cant sing anything too too lively if you know what I mean so that also limits us in what we are able to select. Any help or song suggestions that you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated

Hey Toinette, Congrats on going back to church! That's wonderful. It's also such a good thing you're doing working with the youth. On the types of music- nah not an SDA thing but a West Indian thing. :)

My reco is to use simple praise & worship songs that would be easy to catch on. Some are listed below:

Here I am to Worship http://www.youtube.com/watchv=klxcJaOooPI&feature=related

How Great is Our God http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doiiH2FkIO8&feature=related

Lord I Lift Your Name on High (Donnie McClurkin Style) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS_R1LpM21M

You might also try asking them for suggestions too- see what you can include from what they listen to on their own.

Some other songs to consider:

Imagine Me- Kirk Franklin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmvp5QkQwq4&feature=related

Always- Kirk Franklin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga8nEj3sZWU

Alpha & Omega- Israel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfPJ4j5P5X8

I Trust You- James Fortune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRwQy2eQbJM

Hope that helps. God Bless.

thanks so much Jina :) . We actually had already decided to try "Lord I Lift Your Name on High" and "Alpha & Omega" so its great that you suggested those as you seem to know exactly what types of songs I'm looking for. I will definitely look into your other suggestions and am always open to any more that you or any of the other ladies may have

Well first, let me second the congrats on your decision to return to church and become involved. :yep: I agree with Jina, West Indians can be quite traditional, and SDA churches are often prime examples. So...

1. Power of Your Love (Hillsong) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga6Qtxzd6vk
I sang this with a small choir at a traditional WI church. We sang it in unison, and it sounded really nice.

2. You Are My All in All (Hillsong) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC617kE1maU
The verses are simple. Each person can sing a part of the verse, and then you all can come together for the chorus.

3. Create in Me a Clean Heart (Donnie McClurklin) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILRjmPGvVB8
Also sang this with a small choir at a traditional WI church. Simple melody...

4. Holy Spirit Rain Down (Hillsong) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDUY6gMG2yM

5. Encourage Yourself (Donald Lawrence & Tricity) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbEaftzaFWA
This can be sung very simply, and it's just as beautiful. The song is just powerful...

Here are two very traditional West Indian songs that may or may not be familiar to Haitians, but they will definitely be loved. A pianist will be able to play this easily or a pannist. These even can be sped up...

6. Hear O Lord (Goretti Group) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhmC_3sGgNc

7. Sing Out My Soul (Goretti Group)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ0ja9d_tv4

Lastly, you can never go wrong with hymns at a traditional church. The old rocks in the church love to hear young people keep the hymns alive. So maybe one hymn and one other song. :yep: I'll keep adding more that I remember...

8. Our God is an Awesome God (Donnie McClurcklin) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSgbsfUC_Gk
Can sing this in English and Kreyol, in addition to other languages (and with just a piano backing you).

I LOVE the 2 worship song that you chose. "How great is our God " is just amazing we sing that at church and "Here I am to worship" amazing. I also like the simplicity of this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha65aCdo1Ck&feature=PlayList&p=FBFBE79BB2D858FF&index=2
