CURLMELEONS UNTIE!!! (Transitioning Thread)

just checking in right now am not have any problems yet-- last night i did a tea rinse with kalpi tone powder then i used a shampoo bar and washed my hair. i deep condition for a hour after that i put some chi silk infusion on my hair then i blow dried. to oil my hair i mixed up coconut oil and black castor oil together the only problem is that after i detangle my hair with conditioner in it then i wash it out some hair comes out is that normal because i know your hair should shed i wash my hair every week or two just wondering if that is normal and my NG is thick mostly in the back but i mostly am bunning and wearing scarfs.

Ok ladies, I need some encouragement....

This transitioning stuff has been the most challenging thing I've done in a long while... The last time I was natural, I did a bc.... I'm so tempted to go back to a bc. I'm trying to cut and grow but mannnnnn! This is rough... dealing with these two textures is no joke. What works for NG don't work for relaxed ends... I hear the twa knockin at my door... asking me to let it in before the creamy crack get it....

wooo chile... help me out!

i know how you feel. i had that urge for a quick second, until i realized why im transitioning. but then i know that id regret it. i went through a looonnnggg stretch last year, only to end it with getting a touch up in april, and i could be close to 1 year post had i not made that mistake. but i realized that although my relaxed hair looks moisturized, my ng looks dry. but im in braids right now, and am itching to take these out already. (only been a week) lolol.

I feel your pain:sad: I just keep telling myself its to cold to chop just wait till it gets warmer, but I don't know how much longer that is going to last!!!

Don't BC! Especially if you know you are not ready. I initially planned to transition for a year then for a few hours (while i was about 304 months post), I wondered about BC'ing at 6 months post but when I realised how little hair I'd be working with and what my plans were for my hair (no extensions, weaves, wigs, etc), I knew I had to transition for at leats 1.5 years.
Just think hard about what you want when you're all natural, and if you can't get it now... wait :yep:

Maybe try braidouts and twistouts...? how do you style your hair?

Think really hard before you entertain thoughts of BCing, you can transition for much longer. I'm over 9 months post, some people are over a year post. If we can do it, you can :yep:

Chile the last thing I'm worried about is the cold. I'm trying to hold on.

Right now I'm just doing ponies and wet buns... I'm starting to experience alot more shedding/breakage. My hair seems to tangle more when I do a braid out or twist out whether its wet or just damp... and I don't care what product I use... Even tho I'm relaxed my hair still curls/wave up.... I'm just so tenderheaded its ridiculous. Now my scalp is starting to feel sore... I'm just going through all kinds of changes...

I'm just at the point where I'm ready to deal with one texture.... I'm going crazy.. maybe I'll just continue to WnG.... detanlge less and pray!....Pray that I can get a decent pony puff soon cause I'm barely hangin on!

You're silly! Tell the creamy crack to go away, you's a lie! LOL!
The two textures are rough, I know what you mean. I have no idea what I am going to do with the winter coming since my new growth requires a lot of water. I have never worn a weave but that may soon change.

My braid outs tangle too so I usually only wear them 3 or 4 days so I can detangle it. The first time I transitioned I experienced a lot of breakage and shedding around this time which is why I went ahead and relaxed. So far I have not had that issue and the only things that I am doing differently are using non sulfate poo, protein treatments, and I did a garlic hot oil treatment when I first started to transition because I was shedding then. What is working for me now is wet buns and flat ironing once or twice a month.

I'm new here!

Hair Type? Not 100% sure, but from what I've seen here, probably 4A/3C mix. I'll post pics soon.

How many months/weeks/ days post are you? A little over 8 months. Last relaxer was sometime in January.

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...) I don't have a set plan. I did a mini chop a few months back because my ends were annoying me. I was so tempted to BC the other night, I ended up cutting just my nape. LOL! I'll probably BC before the new year though. I've experimented with braidouts, twistouts, bantu knot outs, but basically I've just been wet-bunning every day. I'm toying with the idea of kinky twists, but I keep reminding myself of how thin my hair was the last (and only!) time I tried those.

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? I will likely enter 2010 fully natural. My birthday is 12/23 so I might actually do it then. Nothing set in stone though.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? Around the 5th month I was itching for a relaxer. Same thing happened to me last year when I tried to transition. This time I held out, especially since I'd read that other transitioners ran into the same thing at that time.

What products are you are using? I cowash with HE Hello Hydration and was using Parnevu Tea Tree Leave-In Conditioner. Tried HH LTR Leave-In again last night and LOVE the way my braidout looks and feels. Olive, Sweet Almond, Tea Tree, and Avocado oils. Also using my MN mix intermittently. Trying to get more consistent with it.

Sorry for the book! :)

 Thank you :) I remember being 17 weeks post, time's flown by.. oooh, when you're 40 weeks post, I'll be 63 weeks post :thud:

I'm glad your transition's going much better this time round :yep: KUTGW!

You are an inspiration!

I am 17 weeks post and this is when I threw in the towel two years when I attempted to transition. I must say that I am not having any urges this time around to relax, as well as no breakage or shedding either.

Hmmm... Maybe if you redo the cornrows/flat twists for your braidouts every night, you'll have less tangles.

It does take a while to get settled into a routine that works for you so please keep trying, one day it will all fall into place. Good luck!

Hair Type? 4A/3C

How many months/weeks/ days post are you?
My ticker says 6 mths, 3 weeks and 3 days. :)

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down?
I plan to trim as I go. Don't particularly want to BC.

Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...)
Mostly bantu knot outs, ponytail, bunning, pulled back with stocking

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it? Not in my immediated plans.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet?
No not really. Just trying to overcome the 2 textures in order to acheive pretty hairstyles.

What products are you are using?
Aphogee is my staple right now. The shampoo, 2 min reconstructor, 2-step protein every 6 weeks, leve in conditioner (Infusium now), OORS for deep condition, shea butter mixture for moisture, various essential and natural oils.

:hiya: Nice having you here :yep:

I don't know how I missed this thread, I'm in the other one!!

Hair Type?4 a/b?? I think, I'm really not sure. I have really tightly curled new growth in the crown, more wavy in the front. I guess I'll have to wait and see...

How many months/weeks/ days post are you?I'm 22 weeks (almost 23) post. My last relaxer was on March 6

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...)I plan to trim every 8-12 wks. I've been flat ironing my new growth, but I don't want to keep doing that. I plan to do rollersets, rod sets and flexi-rods. I'm going to wait to do twist outs until I have more new growth.

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it?I plan to BC in 2 yrs when I graduate from med school. I want to start my career as a natural.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? I've seen breakage, probably from blow drying and flat ironing. I've been flat-ironing every week for the past 4 wks.

What products are you are using?DOMINICAN CONDITIONERS!! I use Miss Key 10 en 1, Silicon Mix, Silicon Mix Proteina de Perla, and Lacio Lacio. Elasta QP Mango Butter and Luster's Renutrients Slick Stickfor my edges. EQP Glaze to keep my ends from frizzing for twistouts and rod sets. Chi Silk Infusion.

Oh wow!! We are almost exactly the same in post relaxer age! March 5th for me! So Heyyyy!!:hiya: I try to use little to no heat on my hair. Only the hooded hair dryer at times or diffusing on cool temp.

Cornrows for braidout:

Flat twists for twistouts:

Aren't you of the thin/fine haired group? I think that this was the problem when I last tried to do a braid out. I made them too small with too many. I'm going to give it another try with fewer thicker braids to see how it comes out. Us thin/fine haired girls need to modify techniques that work for our hair. Yours comes out just gorgeous.:lick: I also get good results when I use 4-6 bantu knots so it makes sense!! Thanks MummysGirl:yep:

Thanks so much

:yep: I have fine strands. Let me know how it turns out, please :)
I still haven't tried bantu knot outs, they're still on my to-do list.

51 weeks, snipping a little at a time. I think it will Jan 10 before I can get rid of all the relax ends.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet!

Hair Type?4b?

How many months/weeks/ days post are you?Almost 6 months.

What is your transitioning plan? BC or cutting up as your hair grows down? Hair styles (weaves, braids, twists...)Trimming as I go along. So far I've trimmed 2-3.5 in on two occasions.
When I initially started transitioning, my staple style was bantu knotted twist outs. I later started doing flat twist outs with bantu-knotted ends. I tired of the effort and manipulation of "out" styles and the accompanying hand-in-hair syndrome, so I switched to protective styling. I've been wearing a half-wig for 2 months now and just bought another one last week. I love half-wigs!

If you plan to BC, do you have a projected date that you are going to do it?Somewhat undecided. I initially planned to BC once I reached full natural shoulder length stretched, but I think I might wait until APL, especially now that I've discovered half wigs. Projected date would be July 2010 at the earliest.

Have you experience any problems/ setbacks yet? I had a horrible, horrible knot fiasco but the ladies of LHCF (and my mom, bless her heart) came to my rescue!:yep: I lost a lot of length in the knotted section but it was a lesson learned...

What products are you are using?
poo - diluted castile soap
prepoo - coconut or olive oil
co-wash - v05 conditioners
dc - AOHSR or AOWC mixed with honey and TJNS
leave in - Giovanni direct
sealant - jbco or home health co and/or shea butter (on ends)
moisture - coconut oil or glycerin spritz or castor oil/shea butter/coco oil butter mix
karishma henna

woohoo... I found something that works.... I'm so happy especially since that creamy crack was chasing me......

OK... so I co wash and applied plenty of con... I used a wide tooth comb.. smooth edges just to detangle... I took a smaller tooth comb to smooth.. grabbed that stuff and put it in a ponybun.... (keep in mind that I just squeezed out the con). Tied that stuff down and went to bed... went to work and came home and took down the bun... semi damp but ok... I applied my coconut oil and voila... my hair was soft and smooth.. I was jumpin for joy.. edges still layin down.( I could care less how curly the middle was)

woohooo.. I'll be wearing this for a while until I figure out what to do next... or at least until I'm bored with it... One month to go b4 an update... anothe inch will be chopped off... on my way.....

btw I called the police on the creamy crack for attempted assault and battery!:lachen:

i was really goin thru a thing this passed weekend! (feeling urges to relax, after all this time...)

today was a good hairday tho... I washed my hair, let the shampoo sit for a few minutes, rinsed, conditioned with aussie moist and organix shea butter... left that on while I washed up... then I rinsed--- very soft:yep: smelled pretty too:lick:-- then I put some aussie moist back in, cantu shea butter, vatika frosting and believe it or not, mousse... yes mousse:spinning: lately its really been helping with my curls (wash n go)--- lastly, i blow dried on cool with a diffuser... the style looks cute... made me like my hair again :yep:

I haven't been on the board lately but I'm still hanging in there. Today I clarified, deep conditioned and wet bunned with 2 head-bands. It actually looks reasonable. Have a great weekend ladies!

back straight again for a little bit... pics are posted under Aphogee Green Tea and Keratin / Lots of Pics thread...

I am very impressed with the Aphogee Spray. My hair wasn't sticky and stiff and its shiney, silky and feels healthy... detangling wasn't so bad, since i separated in sections, blowdried the same way and flat ironed.

happy hair growin ladies! :)

I'm still doing the pony thing... I just added shea butter to my regimen....and man o man.... where the heck has this stuff been all my life. I like this better than my evco....hmmm maybe I'll mix the two.

That'll be my experiment for the weekend coming... btw.. I'm loving my waves...

Oh yes do mix them together! That's the only way I have my shea butter, in a mixture with natural oils. I put it on wet hair and it feels so soft and moisturized. Ladies don't sleep on shea butter, it's the biz-ness!!:yep:
