When I was in Walmart today I seen Ashanti on a black hair magazine...They were asking her questions about how she takes care of her hair...When the interviewer asked what kind of relaxer she used...Ashanti says she doesn't and thats she's natural but she flat irons her hair.Or sometimes she just goes to the doms. salons for a quick doobie. That her hair is really long and it gets in the way:)rolleyes:wateva lol) so she puts in cornrows. She just using weaves to try something different..

My question is Do you think most AA Celebs are natural?

I have heard that alot were .

Because of the heat and coloring they have to do to their hair often

dunno...so i wonder why im posting :lachen:
I think they could very well be though. They can afford all kinds of expensive treatments, specialists, and products so they have a pretty good shot at keeping their hair nice...IMHO :)

who knows? would it even matter though? cause most all of them wear weaves anyway, so if they were natural or relaxed and damaged it wouldnt be a big deal since they rock the weaves anyway.

i would love a celeb weave though. . .:ohwell:

I've thought about this question too. It seems like a lot of them do have natural hair but they wear weaves and wigs in the public eye.

I think Ashantis hair is natural and really long. But I don't think most of them are natural. I think Gabrielle Uniion might be.:yep:

i wondered to. i wondered how can you be rocking out on stage, sweating like a pig(even though pigs dont sweat:lachen:) and not look like a tumble weed is sitting on top of their head!!! most have to! how can you dance, run around and all that and your hair, if its natural, just be stringy and wet???:ohwell:

I think the majority of celebs are natural simply because they probably don't do much to their real hair! It doesn't make sense to get a perm when it's under a weave or a lacefront all the time. Sometimes I even doubt that celebs take much care of their real hair, even though they definitely have the resources to gain a nice and long healthy head of hair.

This is kind of on topic but not really: For those that saw "Why Did I Get Married?", it looked like Janet was rocking her real hair for most of the movie and it looked pretty natural to me.

I dont think so. :nono:

If you ever notice, in those mags all the celebs just take a light iron and run it through their hair. IT'S MARKETING!

If they advertised a relaxer brand, then they would be bringing in money for that company. I havent seen any celeb endorese ANY product unless they were affiliated monetary-wise..(Think Kelly Rowland, Beyonce, Brandy)

If they are relaxed, they arent giving up any info, b/c then they would be giving up free advertising.

Why do it for free when they could get paid for it?

ETA: It also gives the celeb an air of mytique. What more to add to the mystery of a celeb than to think that this person just has great hair that she can run a light iron through and just presses soooo easily? Something that the "every day" chick cant replicate at home no matter how many times she reads the magazine... Think about it...

I believe they are, but they're seriously weaved up.

Beyonce went natural a few years ago because all the frying, dying and blowdrying wasn't working for her when she really needed to start traveling. She made that clear.

When she had fusion and other weave and relax methods before endorsements she made that clear too.

I was just thinking about Janet's hair too! It did look like she had her natural thing going on there. I think a lot of celebs might be natural especially when they are constantly having to change their hairstyles for different projects and things. They probably wear weaves and lacefronts/wigs, much easier to style and do things with at the drop of a hat.

Yup I agree with everything you said...I remember her little sister have a curly type hair..thanks ladies:yep:

I'd like to say no, but since I can't see through weaves, extensions, lace front wigs and all that...I'm just gonna say I don't know.

Even though most of them wear weaves/wigs, most of them are natural. It makes taking care of the hair underneath a lot easier. And plus, what would be the point of relaxing your hair? No one will ever really see it (unless you are recording an album at like 2:00 in the morning). On the rare occasions they do wear their hair out, a press here or a flat iron here wouldn’t hurt if 90% of the time you keep it braided under weaves/wigs!

I think most AA celebs wear FAKE hair so you will NEVER know what's unerneath!

It's fun to me that Tyra Banks talks about her "weave" all the time on her show when she is really wearing a lacefront "wig". I guess in her mind a "weave" is more acceptable than a "wig"

I agree with you, but I disagree about Ashanti. Her hair may not be long, but look at her mother, sister and even her father's hair. They all have longer or curlier texture hair, so it's quite possible she has this hair type too. And I do think a lot of celebs have a coily texture hair, which may be one of the reasons some of them become famous (easier in Hollywood's eyes to manage). And even then, most of them still wear weaves, so in the end, it doesn't matter!

Something else I wanted to add --> It would be really cool if some black magazine (i.e., Ebony, Jet, etc.) did a spread with AA celebrities showing off their real hair. I think that would be pretty neat. I bet there are certain celebrities with great hair underneath all the fakeness.

Very TRUE!!!!!!

No black female celebs is going to admit to heat resistant NAPS!

This mytique will so help later when her reps start the "I"M EVERY RACE UNDER THE SUN EXCEPT AA" pr crap! :nono:

I don't know about most but I do think many are. The majority of them wear wigs and weaves so there would be no point in perming their hair. No one ever sees it anyway.

Janet's natural hair is very pretty. She showed it in the movie "Why Did I get Married". Most of them sport weaves.

I don't know about most, but more than most people would think.

Recently, I saw pics of a natural Michelle (from DC), and Solange (rocking a TWA!), so that really made me wonder about some of these celebs. I don't know if it's true, but I also heard that Beyonce was natural!

It's really hard to tell who's natural or not in Hollywood. Most celebs are constantly weaved (or wigged) up, and the ones who aren't, and are natural, wear their hair pressed out (like with Ashanti), so it's still hard to tell.

I remember reading that Queen Latifah is natural some time ago. I don't know if she still is but I remember her wearing her hair pulled back alot when she was on Living Single. You could tell she had a fresh wash and you could see the waves in her hair.

I think many of them are natural. When I read the hair magazines so many of them say "I don't use chemicals in my hair" - I just figure they wear weaves to accomplish the looks they have.

I think Beyonce is natural - I've seen a couple of pics of her with what looked like her own natural hair. I also read an article where her mother described how they grew out her relaxer and how long it took.

I know she's in a better place, but I remember seeing Aaliyah perform in Florida and her hair was puffing up due to the weather. She was doing a radio interview once and someone said they didn't believe she had natural hair and she lifted up her hair and showed them the burn marks from her press to prove it, lol.

Ding ding ding!

Growing up, I always wondered why I couldn't just run a flat iron/pressing comb through my hair and get "the look" like all those celebs... but as I got older, I realized that most of that "hair" was wigs and weaves.

Which is fine. I'm just sayin', their hair is just like the rest of ours -- it's not just gonna behave with a "light press"... yeah right....

And if they are natural, they aren't displaying their natural hair most times when they're doing photoshoots, shows, etc.

Ive seen ashantis real hair and it was about APL, although that was a good few years ago. Its about 3b/c so I guess she could flat iron it?

No offense, but it looks like the "marketing tactics" worked on you...:yep:

This website debunks the whole long hair myth. True, she may have a curlier texture, I am not debating that, I am speaking about celebs as a whole. I know for a fact there are a slew of 4B's who would love for their fans to believe they are 3C or "higher". All more to add to the illusion and mystique of celebs being "better" than the average. Its all good though.
