Best Wash And Go Styler?

I'm considering doing wash and go styles all summer using Hair Rules soaking wet hair method. So far I've tried Eco styler (olive oil) and Morrocan Oil curl cream. Eco Styler left my hair with lots of shine but it was crunchy. I washed it out after 3 days and tried different products. Morrocan Oil curl cream left me with soft, moisturized hair but no shine.

Any suggestions for a styler that is moisturizing, not crunchy and gives shine?
I haven't tried the Hair Rules curly whip used in the video but read that it's a creamy gel.
I've seen it at Target but haven't picked it up.

Kink Curly Curling Custard!! I hated this product because it takes forever to dry and it's sticky and crazy expensive. But using Dickeys method it totally works for me. And I didn't have to use as much because of the leave in and soaking wet hair. It dries shiny and soft. I haven't tried this since I've been straightening but if this humidity doesn't go away I might revisit this.

I really want to try the hair rules products...they don't have it at any Target's in my area:sad: but I can pick it up at Tindirls n Curls..I'm hesitant because I'll be pissed if it doesn't work..his line is expensive

I use camilla rose naturals.
I wet my hair in the shower, apply fresh curls leave-in to sopping wet hair, then apply the curl jelly on to of that. I shake it out, finish up my shower, and by the time I step out my hair is styled. I do put a microfiber towel over my hair while getting dressed to catch any drips and minimize frizz. Below is what they look like.

I just started wash 'n go styles, so this thread is right on time. :thankyou:

@ajargon02 is this for day 1, or is this how you refresh between washes/cowashes?

I had the same experience with Kinky Curly but haven't tried it on soaking wet hair.
I gave my last jar away to my sister.

Camille Rose curl maker is awesome. I prefer to shingle though. As I Am curling jelly is great also.

I personally like Novex my curls intense curl memorizer. Its a cream. It gives me full defined curls that last for 3-4 days

I'm texlaxed. I wet my hair and while sopping wet add a quarter size drop of castor oil to the quadrants in the back. For the hair that is in front of my face, I use a little more.

But I add Lotta Body moouse and rake it through my hair. Perfect girls and hang time every time.

I spritz with water and shake out for the original wng to last at least 5 days. If it starts getting too big for my liking (which is almost never) I just spray down with water, use praying hands down my strands to revive the definition since it already has product, I don't have to add more.

Eta: the original post is day 1 hair. The above post is how I refresh my hair daily.

I have high porosity hair and felt I had my best Wash N' Go using Edens Bodywork SheaCoconut Pudding & Eco Styler (Argan) Gel...I always follow up with Argan oil to avoid the crunch.

I've had successful wash n go using Edens Bodywork SheaCoconut Leave in & (Argan oil for LOC Method) Curl Define Cream.

Once I nurse my hair back to health...i will switch from Eco Styler to Edens Curl Definer.

I use kinky curly curling custard as well as Dickey's method and I get the same results every time. I've been wearing mostly wash and go's since the end of 2014. My wash and go can last a week and a half if I let it go that long.

Dickey and others who use his method suggest washing every 3 days. I don't have that kind of time and no inclination to use that much product weekly.

Oh no... when I say I use Dickey's method I don't mean the wash every 3 days part :look: I use the technique that he suggests. You will definitely go through a lot of product if you wash every 3 days. Plus KCCC is too expensive to be running through like water. My hair laughs at the 16 oz jar.... I can make the 32 oz last for a month and a half washing weekly but still... it's 25 dollars per jar on amazon.

I've been trying out a bunch of stylers lately because I now want my wash and gos to have less definition and more volume. I used to use Eco but it's too heavy for my hair, and give me no volume. Plus it dries crunchy and can get flaky.

Here are the products I've tried:

- Mixed Chicks leave in. It was ok. It dries soft and doesn't flake. Decent definition. However, it doesn't have great hold and only gives me maximum 2 day hair. And it left my hair feeling a bit coated. I also don't like the smell of it and it's expensive.

- Kinky Curly curling custard. I like it. Leaves hair soft, defined, shiny. Smells good. However, it takes ages to dry and leaves sticky/flaky patches in my hair.

- ORS Curls Unleashed curl boosting jelly. I like it. Good definition. Soft hair. However, it left some type of sticky coating on parts of my hair. And it flaked a bit.

- ORS lock and twist gel. It was ok. A bit watery so I had to use a lot of product to get decent results.

- Curls Goddess Curls botanical gel. LOVE IT. Great definition and hold. Shiny, soft hair. No flaking whatsoever. Great volume. Perfect in every way for my hair. (see my avatar for how it made my hair look). However, it is quite expensive and I only managed 2 uses out of one 8oz bottle. I've ordered 5 bottles off Amazon, which cost me less than what it would cost me in the store I bought the first bottle from. If I can figure out a way to make the bottle last me longer and/or find cheaper prices this will probably become my staple.

- As I Am curling jelly. I bought this the same day I bought the Curls gel but haven't tried it yet. Will be trying it tonight when I wash my hair.

Hope this helps, OP.

HA...I don't bother w/that 16 oz jar either.

Do you wash/style your hair in sections? If not, how long is your hair?

I've been trying different stylers to get the definition and volume I desire. I have a tapered cut. I've tried:

Extreme Wetline gel: Give me the definition and volume I desire. I use it with any sheamoisture conditioner as a leave in. I like to blowdry after I shake to separate the curls more and give more volume. I haven't found anything better so far, and its only $1.13.

Uncle Funky's daughter gel: Too light and didn't leave enough definition. I had to reapply the next day.

Twisted Sistah leave-in and curling gel: Not enough hold and the two products together left flakes in my hair. I use the twisted sistah curl defrizz spray to revitalize my curls in the morning. It's good stuff.

Olive oil eco styler gel: I got good curl definition but, it left my hair very dry. I have use a good moisturizer and oil underneath.

Camile Rose curl milk and Curl maker gel: I tried it once. It didn't give me a lot of hold. I gave it to my sister. I'd like to give it another chance though. So many people like it.

Deva curl gel: Not enough hold nor definition. I didn't like it.

Shea Butter coconut curling crème: It gave me definition and my curls popped, and not heavy. It doesn't last but a day or two. I use it when I don't want to use a gel. Curls don't last but it only cost me $5.

Typing all of this makes me realize my hair is very pick. LoL

This sounds like me. I want more volume at this point and am not concerned as much with definition.
My good friend said the same thing when we spoke about what she's using....which is nothing. She plans to try mousse since gels don't give her the volume she likes.

I've tried a few combinations but so far none have given me the look I want.
I have Morrocan Oil curl cream in my hair now with Keracare gel on top. It's a little crunchy in some places and soft in others.

It's been a costly trial and error process. Glad to know it's not just me though.

I watched the Anthony Dickey video last nite and shared it with my dear friends who are solid 4's :yep: I learned for myself in the video that I do not use enough conditioner in the shower.

So I tried his way tonite with my conditioner and I notice my hair feels softer and looks a little more elongated than usual. I just used eco styler and Cantu leave in (which I don't like but oh well I was on a budget  )

If I use the dickey method, my hair will never dry. It will be elongated because its full of water and product though.

I use four sections and take each section, raking my styler thoroughly until the hair is clumped together. I gently shake a little after. The more I shake , the more it shrinks.

You can use a lightweight gel or cream gel and the the Xtreme Wet line gel on top for a week long washngo

I stumbled upon this just this past weekend. I loved the feeling of my nape area grazing my back while wet and decided to shake very little. My hair has dried and I can still feel it on my back and this NEVER happens. I also sat under a fan to help my hair dry faster. This helped a little.
