Blow Dry Regimen???

Is there anyone who blow dries their natural on a regular basis? What is your regimen? How do you style your hair? I'm thinking about blow drying my hair every two weeks to help me manage my hair and deal with knots. (If there is a thread on this already please direct me.) TIA! :)

I do this. I hold my hair taught while slightly damp and move the dryer up and down the shaft of my hair. Once my hair is dry I twist my hair and wear that as a style for the first week. The next week I wear a twist out and sometimes I push it for a third week and braid the hair into large braids and wear that as a braid out.

The photo below is week 3. See more pics by googling "westNDNbeauty's November Hair Product Favs" (recent blog post)

Thanks for replying. I've read some of your blog posts before. Do you have pics of your twist styles too? Will check your blog out..

I just started a blow drying regimen last month and so far so good. I make sure to deep condition very well beforehand and I use a good leave in and serum. I'm a bit lazy so I went 2 weeks between blow dry sessions this time. On the week that I didn't, I just did a braidout and wore it up or bunned. I bun on blow dried hair as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about wearing mine in a bun too. :yep:

Last week, I blew dry my banded hair. It was not my initial intent to do that, but I like it being totally stretched. And it didn't take much to get it straight. Mind you it was not bone straight. But since my hair is fine, it made it appear thicker. I may do it again this week :yep:

You ladies have beautiful hair. I'm noticing a lot of naturals wash, dc, blow dry and style. My downfall has been that darn flat iron. You all inspire me. I've been on this board since '06 and have yet to accomplish my goal. I hope just a regular wash, dc, and pin up over the next year will help me retain.

I have been off and on with blowdrying my natural hair after washing and conditioning. When I do blowdry, here is what I do:

Section my hair off into 4 sections (one section in the nape area, one in the crown/back, and one of each side of my head). Starting at the nape, I apply Fantasia ic Straightening Serum to a half or third of the nape area section, comb through to distribute the product, and then blowdry on high heat with a comb attachment. It takes about 20-30 minutes to blowdry all of my hair.

After blowdrying, I will style my hair into updo styles or straighten it with a flat iron. I sometimes do twistouts and bantu knot outs as well. I will use a little bit of cream, oil, and/or gel to set the twists or knots and then unravel in the morning. I used to do two strand twists but my ends always unravel no matter what I do.

msaminita No, not of this last blow dry. But I am going to blow dry some time today. I want to try out my CHI Infra Red Shampoo and Treatment. I can post pics of that, if you want to see?

Please do! You know we love pics around here! :D

What's your goal? Do you currently protective style? Natural/relaxed?

Thanks for sharing your regi and the link. Any pics of our styled blow dried hair??

I'm natural. I usually wear my hair flat ironed (every 2 wks). my goal is to have shoulder length, lush hair that does not need to be flat ironed. I would also like to be able to effectively do my own hair and have it remain healthy.

I've recently started co-washing 4-5 times a week, but before then I blow dryed almost weekly. On wash day I'd do my normal routine (pre-poo, wash, then DC) and use the tension method to blow dry my hair. I'd then either twist my hair for a twist out or do some sort of bun do.

Subscribing - thanks for the feedback and the original post. Every darn time I see westNDNbeauty I start believing I too can then I realize I ain't got dem kinda skills and I get intimidated. I wish I could book an appointment with her or Poohbear and have them coach me while watching me on Apple's Facetime or Skype - hint, hint, hint. That won't help me with straight parts but I'll take what I can get.

I've always been afraid of heat but now I want to carefully give it a try. I don't know if it will be practical with the time I think about spending at the gym.

I blow dry my hair on a low-medium setting every week using the tension method and I've had no issues retaining length at all.

I always style it using a banana clip; the first day I'll wear it out loose and hanging in some type of of pony tail or puff and then bun it up for the remainder of the week.

I always make sure to moisturize if it's getting too dry by adding a bit of water and Entwine Butter Creme Hydrator, especially to the ends, and twisting it up to keep the length. For the most part, I wash weekly and I always make sure to deep condition afterwards.

What kind of blow dryer are you ladies using? I prefer tourmaline with the comb attachment. It's hard to find a comb attachment that fits a great tourmaline hand dryer.

Poohbear, do the teeth on the comb straighten your hair well? The teeth look short. I think Conair makes one like this. I was considering it.

Maybe you should consider laying off the heat? If you go into serious protective style mode you'll be at shoulder length in the blink of an eye.

This is the dryer I use on my clients and myself. I love it, the comb attachment have nice teeth that aren't to close together and they are smooth.
