The Brastrap by 2005 Thread

hi everyone, i'm in too. currently my hair is at the bra strap, but layered. it varies depending on the bra, sometime just touching the top or a little past it. i'm joining because i'm going in for a trim in two weeks. so i will be getting btw 1-2 inches cut off.
I have been at brastrap before now and in h.s i was around midback.
I don't plan on taking any vitamins or anything, just do my scalp massages and buns.
i plan to wash every 3 or 5 days i'm not sure yet. on shampoo day, i usually wash, use a protein (emergencee), cholesterol mixed with coconut oil and evoo, and moisturize with hummectress or avedas cherry almond bark. but since i'm back in the dorm i can't do all of those at once. so i'll rotate, emergencee and hummectress one wash day and the next cholesterol and CAB. i then put a few leave ins on, creme with silk groom, avedas elixir, and NTM serum. i wrap, cover with satin scraf and let dry. i then take it down and mositurize with WGO.

Good Luck everyone

One of my goals is to be bra-strap by 2005 but I don't know if I can reach it. I'm so far away! But count me in... I love a challenge!!!

lots of people have been wondering how "bra strap" is defined I added some pics to my album of how i measure. This is a consistant way to know reguardless of bra.

I think I'm going to make it BEFORE 2005!!! I stretched my hair yesterday and it looks like I am too close for words!!!!

And I thought my hair wasn't growing!!!

i guess i need to update since my trim/relaxer and everything..

i am about 4-4.5" away from brastrap. I hope to make it to brastrap by February 2005.

Count me in, I thought I'd be BS by November but due to a healthy trim I'm not going to make it so I'm now aiming for 2005 too around late winter or early spring!
smile.gif

dont forget me.. longest strands are less than an inch from brastrap.. shortest length is 3 inches from brastrap.. i hope to be passed it by an inch or so come dec.

Great thread, BlackCardinal!

My hair grows in layers with the longest layers about 2 or 3 inches away from brastrap.

I experienced breakage this summer because I went to the pool 4x a week. Chlorine water and constant manipulation did a terrible job on my hair.

How I plan to reach my goal:
I am not giving up the pool but I started wearing braids 2 weeks ago (did them myself
smile.gif
) and I intend to keep my hair mostly in braids until the end of December.

Neer been brastrap before. I am curious to see if it can happen.

Update: I just had a touch up this week and I thought I'd be "this close" to brastrap by now. Instead I got a needed trim so I'm actually an inch shorter than I was. (See my siggy.) But my hair looks wonderful! I had layers and I had planned to wait until I reached brastrap to gradually cut them out. Now I have almost a blunt cut and I looove the way my hair looks - thick from roots to ends. /images/graemlins/love.gif It'll take me a little longer to reach brastrap length but it was worth it.

I'm in! My hair is about 4.5 inches from brastrap, and I would love to be at brastrap by my husband's law school graduation next May. That's my stretch goal, but I would be happy to get to brastrap anytime next summer. I'm going to try to be more diligent about taking my vitamins, and maintain consistency with my regime.

I'm in! /images/graemlins/clap.gif....I'm two inches away...is it just me /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif or does it seem like the closer you get...time just seems to slow down...or is that me being overly anxious?!!!!

Black Cardinal, I hope I'm not too late to join.
I've noticed in a few people's signatures that they, like me, are shooting for brastrap length hair in time to bring in the new year. Let's congregate and encourage and share and so forth in this thread

Examples of things you might want to share:

How long is your hair now?
Hovering b/t shoulder blades ... even without the 2 inch cut, it's taking its time to get to bra-strap. It seems the closer I get to bra-strap, the longer it takes to get there - if that made sense, LOL.

Have you ever been brastrap length before? Nope.

What special regimens or treatments are you doing to help you reach your goal?
I'm taking Viviscal, which is expensive (to me) but it works on my hair. I have stopped using a brush altogether to see if it really does make a difference. I saturate my hair with moisture - and I've stopped wandering over to the next hot product; instead, I'm sticking with my true-blues.

Did you have the same goal last year?--I know I did (And if so, what set you back, and what are you doing differently this time?)
I did too. In fact, I joined the bun challenge to see if I could reach b/s w/in a year.

What set me back was going to a dishonest hairdresser who claimed she was relaxing my hair with lye, when it turned out she was using the same no-lye that she uses on all her clients. /images/graemlins/down.gif No-lye = dry, brittle hair = breakage for my hair.

What I'm doing differently - going to an honest stylist who uses lye, and trimming my hair. Everything else will remain the same, e.g., C/O washes, rinses, protective styles, creamy leave-ins, satin pillow cases.

Whatever else you want to add
I'm just glad to be part of a positive movement. It's been a hard year for me (death, cancer) and I miss the uplifting vibe of LHCF. Thanks for starting this thread, BC.

Weeeee! Brastrap here we come!

How long is your hair now? My hair is approximately 14" unstretched from crown to ends, which is a bit past my shoulders.

Have you ever been brastrap length before? Close when I was in 3rd grade, it was hovering around that area.

What special regimens or treatments are you doing to help you reach your goal? Overnight Vatika oil treatments once a week, Ouidad's deep conditioning treatment once every two weeks, protective styling 5 days per week, vitamin regimen that includes 10 mg of biotin & 2000 mg of MSM daily, no heat styling, and increasing water intake.

Did you have the same goal last year? I didn't have a bra strap goal last year. I've wanted longer hair for years but didn't know (obviously) what I needed to do to get it. I've fired my SHS and I'm transitioning. I'm doing everything I can to achieve my goal.

My ultimate goal is to have all natural, waist length, curly hair. My shorter term goal is to reach bra strap. I think by the time my hair reaches my bra strap, I'll have enough natural hair that I'll be ready to bid adieu to my texturized ends. I'm on month 5 of my transtion and my plan is to transition for 18-24 months. I have quite awhile to go. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

How long is your hair now?
It's quite long. Just *one* more inch till brastrap

Have you ever been brastrap length before?
Yes. Three years ago

What special regimens or treatments are you doing to help you reach your goal?
Stay away from heat as much as I can, continue taking my vitamins, and trim my ends when needed.

Did you have the same goal last year?
Yes, I did. I gained 3-4 inches but it didn't make me officially brastrap.

Whatever else you want to add?
I should be *past* brastrap right now. I hope that I can reach my goal by the end of December.

guys how is everyone doing?
i'm in cornrows now trying to keep them in for a while might go back to the wig as a protective style!

I got a rollerset on Saturday, but I didn't bother with checking against bra strap. Ho hum.

My stylist wants to trim the bottom inch of my hair because it's thinnest at the tail. (Thanks to the shampoo girl ripping at it!) She says that the split ends will travel upward if she just dusts it, so I should let her cut it all at once.

I think I'll hold out til next year, though. Split ends aren't in my set of hair problems, and I bun my hair consistently when there's no special event that merits wearing it down.

I got a trim last month which cost me some length but really helped to even out my layers. So even though it was a setback in terms of my goal, I'm happy with the results.

How long is your hair now?
2 inches passed my shoulders or 20 inches long (measured hairline to ends)

Have you ever been brastrap length before?
I don't know. I never heard of or thought of having brastrap length until I saw this forum. I know my hair was at its longest when it was armpit length about 5-6 years ago.

What special regimens or treatments are you doing to help you reach your goal?
http://members.fotki.com/poohbear215/about

Did you have the same goal last year?
I've only been on this forum since April 2004. Before then, my goal was just to have really long hair!

Whatever else you want to add
Bra-strap length for me is 7 inches passed my shoulders or 25 inches long (measured hairline to ends). Pray that I reach my goal by mid-2005!

HA! Blueflower, you are PAST bra-strap girl. I took one look in that October album and you're hair, merely blown out, not even really straightened, is more than comfortably bra-strap!!!
I raved about your hair in another thread, so I won't do it again here /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My hair is barely between my shoulder blades when flat ironed (at least it was in April of this year), so i don't know if I'll make it to bra-strap by '05 but I'm in my protected style, I'm getting "serious" again about my routine, and so I'll add this thread to my favorites and encourage all the ladies on their way!!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I am nowhere near bra length; however, as a young girl/teen, I had bra length hair so I know it can be accomplished. I'm thinking I can get there by the end of 2005 or beginning of 2006, realistically. ???????? Just a guess.

I'm in!

My hair is barely touching my shoulders now and is very weak and thin

I have never been bra strap

I plan on getting braids and/or a weave for at least six weeks. I plan on getting Aphogee protein treatment every 6-8 weeks and continue going to the Dominican salon every week.

I also plan to exercise, drink burdock tea and eat more fruits.

I think it's going to happen, but it will be December 31st 2005!

Count me in also I am about 3 inches away, but I'll take my chances since I started working out.......I need a trim though so I will have to repost my inches wish me luck......
