Swimming Tip: Shea Butter Protects My Hair From Chlorine

The Chi Silk Infusion worked soooooooooooooo good for me in lieu of the shea butter. The swimming cap kept sliding off my head though and me trying to keep it on my head made me pull on a few strands of my hair, so I won't be using a swim cap in the future. My hair was still getting wet with it on anyway.

I'm glad that worked for you! It seems that the products that easily build-up are the ones that provide the best protection. Even after co-washing my hair after swimming, my hair would still feel slightly coated from all of the days of applying shea butter. Shea butter isn't easily rinsed away with water.

I'm pretty sure with all of those cones in the Chi Silk Infusion, it acted the same way as shea butter would since it's not water soluble.

I've been applying aloe vera gel from roots to ends in sections before water aerobics. I tried shea butter two days ago and it worked well but was a little stiff to apply. Tonight I made a small batch of shealoe (shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera gel). I wet hair in sections with water and then applied shealoe from roots to ends. I made 4 big twists and slapped a baggie on. My hair feels great and I'll test this combo in the pool tomorrow. Thanks, OP :yep:

@icsonia22 I was just about to tag @Chicoro !! I Am Here !! for the many wonderful uses of Shea butter

Also I just went swimming this past weekend and can testify pre wetting and conditioning is definitely not enough. My hair was so matted and dry after I could only get through it w tons of conditioner under running water in the shower. I will be trying Shea butter next time esp considering I already have a couple jars whipped up!

:bump:
Swimming anyone?
@Chicoro there may be another Shea discovery underway. May have to test this theory for myself
I tested this out myself on Monday (Memorial day). I did a wash and go by slathering my hair with Shea butter and Wetline gel before jumping into the pool. It worked like a charm! No tangles or dryness whatsoever. As someone who swore off wash and gos because of the massive tangles I was getting this was a miracle!

Try it!! I’ve done the conditioner only method in the past and ended up with dry hair too. Shea butter is the only way to go.

I want to see a pic of how your wash and go turned out. I wanted to rock wash and goes this summer but the fear of single strand knots made me put my hair into mini braids. If there's some hope out here for us 4b naturals, I need to know about it

Here I am on my way to the pool, sweating with a face full of SPF 50 . The shrinkage is ridiculous!

Wow I can't even see any Shea residue. Maybe I'm too heavy handed because my hair takes a while to absorb the shea. Is your hair prone to single strand knots? I really want to wear a wash and go using wetline and Shea butter but I don't want to flush all of my hard work down the drain over a hair style

Yep my hair is very prone to ssks. If you’re unsure then don’t do a wash and go. Keep your hair in chunky braids or a bun. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

I can't wait to try this. I swim at least once a week. I finally found a good swim shampoo and conditioner, but it wouldn't hurt to add this as well.

I can also vouch for this. I went swimming daily in Barbados, both pool and sea, and my hair was soft and manageable. I would slather my hair in Shea Moisture DC (the Shea butter one) and then used mucho Mane Choice - Doesn’t get much butter than this.
