*** Setting To Success 2018 Challenge ***

Been doing sets lately without any holding agents and I actually really like it, I see why so many of you ladies like it. The hair is so nice and soft. This is probably only working for me because the weather is cool.

I did a rod set on my short hair for the first time this past weekend. It came out looking like Bruno Mars .

On the plus side, my hair growth is coming along nicely and I'm sure I can put magnetic rollers on the top of my head now. My sides were tapered, so it may be a few more months before I can get back to my magentic rollersets that I adore.

I used Jane Carter's wrap and roll. I'd not used that product before. I like it.

A foam wrap but not too much so that the hair will revert. I really like Nairobi

Come through! I recently got my hair straightened and already ready for a different look lol I was thinking of a flexi rod set but wasn’t sure what products to use because I’ll def need the hold but don’t want it to revert. Debating between Jane Carter wrap and roll or Nairobi. Think I’ll go with your recommendation. Thanks!

Hi Ladies. I have bra strap 4a/b high porosity hair. Ive been experimenting with the Curlformers Barrel extra wide (purple) for a few months. While I love the initial outcome of my hair, after about an hour it reverts to a poofy mess. I've tried water only, only water and a light oil, and also MANY products to set i.e. FOAMS: Jane Carter, Nairobi, Lotta Body GELS: Mane Choice 24K, Orchid CREMES: Camille Rose Almond Jai, Shea Moisture Curl Stretch Pudding, Lotta Body Style Milk, Qhemet Biologics Amla, Qhemet Biologics Olive and Honey Balm sigh... none work. My hair still poofs up:(. The initial look is Soooo pretty, but it inevitably poofs up within the hour. Do you have any suggestions? What works for you?

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat with you. I just don't think curlformers provide the type of tension our hair needs to hold a style. The only thing I can think of is some type of humidity blocker?

From the products you've listed they all seem to be fairly moisturising and may have glycerin high on the list. Have you tried using gel? Something that's going to form a cast on your hair?

I've tried the Mane Choice 24k Gel and the Mane Choice Orchid gel. Neither worked. It truly is disheartening as the Curlfomer sets start out soo pretty.

Have you tried taking out the curlformers and setting on another roller type for a while?

I wait about 20 minutes after the dryer before taking out the curlformers to let my hair cool. Then I may separate just enough to put in flexi rods. I usually do that overnight. I would use a small amount of setting lotion or foam but I'm still working on finding the right one.

Oh and avoid any products with glycerin with a set. Find a leave in without glycerin or use a foam.

Thank you, I will try to add rollers after I remove the curlformers. Great suggestion!

OMG this is so beautiful :love:
What is a twist and curl? Can you give is more details? And what did you use for hold to make it last longer?
Aw thank you @AlmaPetra. I never feel like my hair is beautiful. I guess I feel like you and your glorious wash n go.

My twist in curl consist of about 20 two strand twist rolled on white perm rods. I used the Design Essentials foam on the ends and a little Mane Magic oil. This is the first time I have tried it .

I am out in breezy weather and its still holding up.

Haha well thanks dear! But that style really looks amazing on you! It makes me want to buy these white perm rods you used.. I wish I could get my hands on the RevAir too..
Which DE product did you use? The Curl Enhancing Mousse or the Foaming Wrap Lotion? I am going to use the former on my wash and go soon. I tried it on the front part and got good results.
Having mentioned wash and gos, do you ever wear these? I saw your post in another thread. You said that you didn't retain a lot of length and I was thinking that maybe you should try wash and gos. @FoxxyLocs has been able to grow her hair to TBL using hard hold gels for her wash and gos and she inspires me that I can do the same. I think if one avoids tangles, wash and gos can reduce breakage drastically, because you just go with what the hair wants to do.

I thing I have the foam wrap lotion.

I've tried wings but it hasn't worked well for my hair. My hair is tightly curly and high shrinkage. It shrinks so much that the ends tangle and I have to redo it every day because it dries out. And that is really time consuming for me. I have yet to find a gel that defines my curls and keeps my hair moisturized.

I have pictures of my wngs on the board . I do them about once a year.

Hmmm yeah I can see how wash and go's would be counter-productive in your case. I'm sure the best wash and go products and techniques for you are out there somewhere. The problem is that finding them will take a lot of trial and error and that could lead to more hair damage which you definitely don't need. I have seen that first hand from experimenting on my twa.

I also hate having a lot of products on hand. I currently have 4 gels and I refuse to buy more. I try them from time to time. I will try a wng in the late spring over a king weekend. I have to have time to do my hair twice
