Random Threads Brought Up

I was just wondering why some threads, that have no new responses for long periods of time, end up on the first page of threads? The last post can be 11/22/06 yet it will be right on the first page.

Were these threads polls? When someone votes in a poll thread, it bumps up the thread since the poll has changed, even if there was no reply typed.
