Optimum Care relaxer Advanced Anti-Breakage

Hey all, As some of you may know i had a major hair setback.. I had to stop and trace my steps back.. I had very little breakage before I used Mizani relaxer..

The relaxer I used prior to Mizani was Just for Me kiddie relaxer.... My hair was always full of life and body.. After using Mizani my hair was somewhat flat with less body and life, but the texture was fabulous... I am beginning to realize that it was after I relaxed my hair that I had massive breakage, maybe the relaxer was much too strong for my hair... I lost a lot of hair during this time..it has been 10weeks and the breakage is to a minimum..

I am now due for a touch up and am seriously contemplating on trying The Optimum Care New Advanced Anti-Breakage System... I would love to re-try the Mizani,I am however impressed by how long the results lasted, but I don't want to chance another hair crisis... thinking back, i had just taken out a weave so I think the stylist put the relaxer all the way through. Have any of you used this product before???? how would you rate it and if you can not recommend it can you recommend something and I'll take it from there.... Thanks!

Hi Nikki,

I used to use this relaxer before I switched to a lye relaxer. Truthfully, I liked it a lot. However after switching to a lye relaxer I am much happier with my hair. It feels less dry. I have tried Mizani myself and liked it also. You mentioned that you had just come out of a weave before the relaxer. That could be why you lost so much hair. The hair that would normally shed doesn't get to when you are in a weave or braids. A lot of that could have been hair that had shed and just couldn't come out of the weave. Something to think about.

Pebbles, thanks for replying... So you liked the optimum, Great, that's a plus but i stll don't understand the breakage because I only had the weave in for 2 weeks, and massive hair was coming out, to the point where as if i shook my hair over the sink,, the sink would would be covered with hair, MY HAIR!!!, that's scary!! I was thinking about switching to lye, but @ this point I am totally scared....anyway with the Mizani the results lasted a long time, is it comparitive to the Optimum? Thanks

oo: Now that is scary. That is something other than regular shedding I'd say.

I think the Mizani is a much better relaxer, but different things work for different people. If I didn't know about lye relaxers, I would have kept on using the Optimum you mentioned and made it work as best as I could. A lot of women no-lye relaxers with great success. I would tell you to try something else if you are scared of the Mizani; like Elucence, but it's your call. You should do what you feel comfortable doing.

Well i used Optimum awhile back and it was too strong for my hair and I experienced breakage and thinning.
Are u going for a lye or no lye?
If u want no lye Designer Touch Sensitive Scalp is excellent! I love it. My hair gets straight but i do not get that same plastered look that I got when I had a fresh optimum.

Oh yeah let me add that I have super sensitive hair that breaks easily and I love my results with Designer Touch no lye.

I know,,,, the Mizani is really good but I am so scared..Even when I bought the relaxer to the Dominican stylist she was like ya, mommy, this is good relaxer... But what I really want to know is what's the differnce between Lye and No-Lye??

If I am not mistaken, the lye does not take as much moisture out of your hair as the no l ye does. From what I have learned thus far a no lye dries your hair out. What i ahve been doing is keeping my hair SUPER moisturized especially my ends. While my hair was thicker and shinier with the lye perm, it did not get myhair as straight it was more like a texturizer that relazed my waves just a little.
I have learned that what works for one may not work for all. Was your hair breaking or shedding? Have u done anything different this time around? I have also heard excellent things about Mizani.

Basically, the no-lye relaxer contains guanidine hydroxide which is designed to be easier on the scalp, but the trade off is that it dries your hair out more. The lye relaxer contains sodium hydroxide which can burn your scalp more easily, but is much less drying to the hair.

Hey Tonya,
Thanks for your response,I use No-Lye.. I have been using Just for me or Creme of Nature, but neither gives me the long lasting results like Mizani did.. I so don't know what to do right now and it's time!! But you know what I think I better lay off that relaxer for now because like I said the breakage got worst after the application....
I'm going to look into the Designer Touch relaxer, thanks alot Tonya.

Shouldn't you stay away from lye when your hair is permanently colored... Pebbles look, I'm going to ask you a question and I want you to give me your honest opinion, now, just take heed that I don't listen to what every and anyone tells me, I am my own person and I do what I'm comfortable with... You heard my situation, my breakage is to a minimum when I comb I get like 5 strands, which is still not normal for me, I expect like none, but I am still thankful that it is only 5..
Would you try to experience with a lye relaxer? Would you try the Mizani but in lye...

[/ QUOTE ] I don't believe so. But I will ask Tracy; our hair color specialist.

Was the Mizani relaxer you tried the no-lye formula? I used the Mizani lye regular strength. If you are losing just 5 strands, consider yourself very lucky. The average daily shedding is 50-100 strands a day. If the Mizani you tried was the no-lye formula, maybe you might want to try the lye formula. I would. If you choose to use the Optimum, you may like it too. Like I said, I liked it when I was using it. I just noticed that my hair strands were less dry when I switched to a lye formula.
