Help me decide.... cut then grow, or grow then cut

So I'm growing out my bob and my goal is shoulder length by the end of next year.......whoop whoop! All of my hair is pretty much the same length, except for the crown, which is exactly 1" shorter and when I style it, it doesn't reach the rest of the hair in the back. It drives me nuts, coz when I comb it, I have this "dip" in the back of my head where that hair is hanging.

I have an option of
1. chopping the back of my hair off by an inch, or
2. gradually trimming as I go until the crown catches up

What do you think?

Trim as you go. Also consider your hair growth pattern as you trim. What I mean is if the back or side of your hair grow faster than your crown I wouldnt suggest attempting to keep your hair even all over, you may stiffle some great growth. I would even just dust for a while to see what shape your hair naturally grows in before doing trims.

That is unless you desire to grow your hair in a blunt bob :)

Thank you ladies! You make a lot of sense. My back and sides seem to grow faster than the crown. So I will just trim as I grow slowly, and let the crown catch up.
