Hair Porn :) Lots of pics (kinda big) transition over!

Hey lovely ladies, I've been lurking for years. I posted a few times but I'm finally posting the progress. I was natural 16 years, relaxed 5. This is my relaxed hair, no weaves.

Anyway, got tired of the upkeep with relaxed hair so I got rid of it. Transitioned for 14 months till I got to this 2 weeks ago. These pics are my hair right after taking a sew-in out:

The person who does my hair is a healthy hair fanatic so she cut some inches off so I can be sure to start off with all healthy hair. I didn't really agree but it happened anyway lol. And I dyed it red :) So my only goal now is to get it moisturized because it is VERY dry (I admit to seriously slacking with moisturizing with the sew-in, I did a lot of basic wash and goes) so it shrinks a lot.

This is a perfect picture to view the different textures which give me hell. Each section I'm finding the right product for to make that particular wave/curl pop:

The nape has the smallest curls of my head. It gets looser from there. By the ear you can see a good example. My hair goes completely straight from twistouts. There's also small sections of straight hair that you can also see. I'm constantly telling women they're not "relaxed ends" and they always want to inspect it. I have them dotted numerously around my hair which sucks because blending in is a nightmare. The front curls are super loose and I have to constantly coax them into their pattern. The fuzzy top has no curl pattern, they're very loose waves. It's so fine that I have a very hard time finding any product that will hold the wave and not weigh it down. It's very frustrating (and was actually part of the reason I submitted to a relaxer senior year) but I am giving it another try and I'm excited about it.

I pin back the front because it grows downwards, so pinning gives the illusion of an afro more or less. Once my hair grows longer I'll keep it down.

I just did some color shots to cover up the roots.

Front unpinned

Straight parts

My basic style when I go out:

Aaaaand that's it! Still trying to build a good moisture/protein regimen so my the curls and waves can really pop. I plan on growing it back out to mid back length. My final goal is healthy hair and waist length. Hope you enjoyed! :D

Thanks for sharing this! you and your hair are beautiful!!

One question: Did you BC all your relaxed ends ie then grow out your natural hair or did you transition for 14 months then snip of the relaxed bits?

To make the photos show up, on the icon with the mountain/sun (it has a yellow background) and then put in the link for the photo.

You have beautiful hair! And those straight sections are really interesting...I'm wondering if it has something to do with the dye (the chemical can have a relaxer effect on some people's texture).

I think focusing on your moisture/protein game will really help out. Hopefully some protein will help bring back the curl in some of the looser spots, and moisture will help you see your coil pattern more clearly (and hopefully help it become a little more uniform).

Thanks! :) Basically once my new growth became sew-in length (maybe 3-4 inches?) I cut it all off and wore sew-ins till 2 weeks ago.

Well the straight parts have always been there. :/ Granted, the constant conditioning has made it a lot softer/silkier than before when I didn't really know how to take care of my natural hair. I co-wash every day or else the rest of my hair loosens up too, super weird. I keep most of my curl the wetter my hair is.

WOW you have great hair! It's interesting cuz it seems you have at least 2 textures naturally. It confirms a theory of mine. ;)

One thing I know for sure if your hair got that long while relaxed it will reach even beyond that natural, just sit back and enjoy

as far as your textures, the straight pieces and all that wont even matter, the more length you get the more your styling options so you wont have to work so hard with those textures, try to be patient with them.

But its interesting, because your a first as far as I have seen with actual straight texture mixed in with no reason such as heat damage etc.

keep up your moisture with that pretty color! very important

pretty eyes btw!

Congrats on your transition being over :yep:

You would Iris you would...LOL. ;) My theory is that the whole Andre system is whacked because many if not most human beings have more than one texture naturally. It's the same thing w/ hair color really...most people have a mixture of colors when you examine the strands, so why not textures?

These hardcore categories people buy into very much around here, but how true are they really? People are actually fighting over this stuff w/o wondering just how true it really is.

Well girl,

I have decided there is nothing but TRUTH to your theory

I notice you don't do the alphabet soup thing (that's what I call it) either Iris. A person just has to find what works for them and their hair. That takes time, some money, and most of all patience. The categories set hard and fast rules. LOL that's part of why we get so many HELP posts methinks. Someone tried what worked for another 3421abxes and found it didn't work for them!

The OPs hair actually took the dye differently on the different textures. Amazing!

Well I do it, but its only cause its the ONLY descriptive there is to use although not accurate

dont go into that my nape is the part that grows to my arse cause its so loosely curled, while my crown is massive and mostly just poof with some spirals in there somewhere and everything else is somewhere in between those two , like the front and sides, not straight but darn close

but I just say 3c and keep it moving:lachen::lachen:

but your sooo right about the problems with this typing thing

It's sad to see people argue over it...very sad. The posters who say they don't know their type tend to get beat up on  and accused of being in denial. :nono: Me, I refuse to speak Andrespeak.

As for your hair, I'm not surprised that you have two textures, at the very least. It shows in pics sometimes.

Congratulations on joining and transitioning.

Your hair is gorgeous I love the colour and yes the two textures are interesting. It doesn't look like a hair problem.

You have lovely eyes too ^_^

ETA: I think the andre system is too militant. You can have many textures in your hair. I don't believe in boxes

You know what...I think I found my hair twin! Very pretty hair and congrats on the BC. I have combination hair as well. I havent BCed, but I'm close to 5 months post and my roots look like yours. As for the straight areas...very interesting. If you want it to curl up to blend in more, maybe some kinky curly will help....or maybe a braid out! In any case, you're working that fluffy fro girl!

your hair is really nice and i love the colour and texture, keep it moisturised cos sometimes red comes like blond it just sucks the moisture away
