2017 Collagen Challenge...! Let's Grow!

Which one do you use because I’m looking for a cheaper but still effective and clean version.

I bought mine on a whim a couple months ago after being surprised to see it in Whole Foods but it’s too expensive for me too. I hope this jar will last me all month but I don’t think it’s enough. And at that rate i’d have to spend almost $60 a month just to take collagen.
I use the NeoGen Super Collagen. I usually get it from the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. It depends on how lazy I am and who’s having a sale lol

Just checking in...
I got braids in my hair on a July 1st (the first two pics) and I took pictures of the back of my hair last night, July 23rd (where they are cornrowed in and had no slip whatsoever) it looks like I have gotten an inch so far in most places but no less than .75" and it has not even been a full month.
I take my collagen with powdered vitamin C, powdered MSM, 10,000mcg of biotin (one small tablet) and I alternate hairnamics and hairfinity.

I increased my collagen to one and a half scoops in the morning and night. I have been much more consistent with oiling and massaging my scalp. On top of that, I moisturize the length of my braids, just far enough down where my real hair is.

Since I am so lazy, I just going to keep these braids in, clarify my scalp and the knots, and use these as the base braids for my locs. The parts I'm the back are big enough to support the locs, as I redo the perimeter , I will be combining sections to make them bigger so there will be no stress on my edges with the locs. I plan on keeping my hair in PS until Dec/Jan. I need to get back the length that has been broken off View attachment 406523View attachment 406525View attachment 406527

Hey sis! Are you still taking the Collagen and if so, any updates? I hope all is well with you.

Hey sis! Are you still taking the Collagen and if so, any updates? I hope all is well with you.
Hello! I am sorry I haven’t ben on much lately. But yes I am still taking it. And loving it more and more daily. I finally found a way to get the hyalauronic acid to dissolve. I put a scoop of my collagen, powdered vitamin c, and the powdered HA in a mug and pour a little boiling water in and stir. All of the powder gets dissolved then I add a little (1/4 cup) of cold oj and drink. It’s delicious. My new growth is crazy ridiculous and the hair at top of my head am FINALLY in the teens (13”).

ETA: you have to mix all the dry ingredients together thoroughly before adding the boiling water. Doing this will prevent the HA from clumping and make it smooth. You don’t need a lot of water. I add a little and mix it together with a fork and add more as needed.

@Gr8ness83 - your hair growth progress has convinced me to change my collagen supplement . <lol> I've taken Neocell on and off for several years, currently on. Although, I just purchased 2 bottles of Neocell last week I just ordered 1 container of this (Saturday delivery):

I considered purchasing the Amandean Marine Collagen but I didn't get a good feeling about the Amandean brand (the website looked very sketchy - and like a very simple DIY website) - I didn't get the feeling that it was a solid "company". The Sports Research brand contains 11gr of collagen vs. the 6 in Neocell and had over 6000 reviews with a 4.5 rating. My Neocell will be a back-up.

I'm going to try your Collagen, Vitamin C , HA and OJ cocktail.

I’ve had this in my Amazon cart/wish list forever and never purchased even after reading a ton of amazing reviews. I also currently have Viviscal, Neocell and Reserveage collagen supplements on hand. When I was on Viciscal back in the day, I saw amazing growth. I’m not seeing a huge hair benefit with Neocell. I do believe I see a difference in my skin maybe? I’m not sure because Im doing so many internal and topical skin things. I may go ahead and get the SR collagen as well.

Thanks for this post! I ran to read the reviews. I was taking unflavoured marine collagen for a good while. Then after reading what my LHCF ladies had to say, I thought I'd try the Neocell and Reserveage brands. My intake slowed down to a virtual stop because I don't like the sweetness, especially of the latter. I've almost worked my way through both:barf: but I'll be picking this up as my replacement.

I just had the SR in my cart. I keep looking through the reviews because I tried the Great Lakes last year but stopped because I was on a weight loss journey and felt like it was stalling me.

I think I'll get the Sports Research one because I specifically search the reviews for hair. My knees aren't bad and the skin is a nice boost but not enough to really get one product.

@yynot - I had a similar experience with Viviscal - great growth! I'm not taking Neocell specifically for hair growth but if it drops some on my head- I'll take it. :afro: Yes, Neocell is known to improve skin condition and I absolutely, positively agree that it does it, based on my experience.

@GGsKin - Did you see any benefit from taking the marine collagen? Why did you change?
I must admit taking the 6 Neocell tablets is quite a mouth full at times. Most days I take just 3, due to the plethora of supplements I take. But, I keep reminding myself of the benefits.

@Hairties - I believe I read that collagen is supposed to promote weight loss. Not sure if that's true or not but I can't say my previous weight gain was due to collagen, considering my diet at the time. I'm taking collagen in general for joints and skin.

@ilong In regards to benefits to skin and hair, I can't really say because I was taking msm alongside. My skin was already good but in the last year or two, I've stepped up my facial skin care game so my improvements are more than likely a combination of things. I didn't measure my hair growth but I did notice that my new hairs were growing in fast and I was less achy than I'd usually be after a workout or Pilates session. Ooh, and I stopped getting irregular pain in my right wrist that would make it difficult for me to grip or hold things.

Those pills are a real mouth full. I've changed brands a few times. I was taking the massive pills and I wanted to switch to powder. My first powder had no taste and had a smell similar to baby sick lol but it didn't dissolve quickly. Funnily enough this was my only problem with it:drunk:, although my work colleagues would put the baby sick smell at the top of the list:giggle:.

Since then, I've unwittingly bought flavoured ones (vanilla, or sweetened) that I do not care for at all but slowly working through and almost finished. So this unflavoured one is right on time.

This one sounds very interesting @ilong, especially with the 11gm serving size. :yep:.

@Aggie - it's bovine - and I see you mentioned to another poster that you wanted to try a marine collagen. Sports Research has a Marine Collagen.
Even comparing cost to benefit, the prices on these products is getting a little steep in my opinion (~$40 for a 12 - 17oz. container.) .

Thanks @ilong. Yeah I have noticed the difference in cost and you're right, they are pretty high for the marine collagen. I will try one and see if there is a difference in performance from the bovine.

I have to figure out how to upload pics but I have between 1.25”-1.50” of new growth since I’ve had my braids in, just under 2 months (June 27th). I had the same issue loading pics before, I can’t remember how I resolved it.

I received my Sports Research Collagen Peptides (CP) yesterday and took some immediately. I put a scoop in some antioxidant juice (room temperature) and a changed in taste wasn't noticeable. This morning I added it to my coffee. It made the coffee "heavy" but it was not unpleasant. Just have to adjust to the consistency/taste difference. I was elated that I wasn't able to taste the CP

@Gr8ness83 - hopefully you'll be able to upload the pics soon. I'd love to see your progress.

I think back to 2013-2015 when my hair seemed to flourish. I committed to not ever getting braids again however I'm wavering in an effort to obtain some "super charge" growth. In my opinion, (low/no tension) braids or a sew in will promote retention and growth.

I had a hair transplant in 2015 which necessitated shaving a third of my head for grafting. That was definitely a "BIG CHOP". My hair has grown back and the transplanted area on the right side has filled in beautifully. The left side has filled in but not as significantly and dense as the right.

My plan is to return to supplement and hair care regimens similar to my 2013-2015 regimens. Wigs were my protective style. Wigs are not an option now, due to my physical activities.

So here are the progress pics. I got them put it on July 26th actually, not the 27th. I literally have to email myself the pics, save them and upload THOSE pics.

I've been taking Sports Research Copper Peptides faithfully since 9/22/18. The ease of being able to add it to my morning coffee and not totally destroy the taste is exceptional and promotes my consistent use.
I'm on a turbo charge journey to grow my hair fast, so I'm adding Viviscal back to my regimen. As mentioned above I had great growth when I was committed and consistent in taking it, along with my other vitamins. (Trying to replicate my 2013 hair growth regimen as much as possible). I need to decide on what protective style(s) to utilize (wig, sew in or braids)

For reference: Study on Viviscal https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1286738

Man, this Reserveage collagen tastes pretty durn good.

I let it sit in the some water and thought I was going to have to gag it down. Nope, taste slightly lemon flavored. I'll stick to this brand for 3 months and see how it goes.
Thanks, I've been considering a liquid or powder collagen to try next.

Almost done with this container. With the exception of 2 days, while traveling on vacation, I've taken it everyday since I got it. I add it to my daily cup of coffee . Hoping by June 2019 I see some tremendous progress.
Hope I can catch it on a Black Friday sale.

I use this same collagen and love it! I haven't been checking on its impact on my hair though!
